Last night I was playing as the Forcemaster versus the Warlock.
Forcemaster is equipped with Circle of Fire. Forcemaster also has her built in defense active. Forcemaster is attacked by Dark Pact Slayer.
So my question is does the damage barrier trigger even if the attack is unsuccessful because of a successful defense roll (+7d12)?
Also in this case, Dark Pact Slayer has Flame -2. Circle of Fire's Damage Barrier is a flame attack (2+d12). With the flame -2, Do I even roll for the defense barrier or do I only roll the effect die?
also, can a creature with flame immunity walk through a wall of fire with out needing to do a damage roll?

Barrier only trigger is a hit landed.
Flame -2 reduce amoubt of dice too.
Yes a flame immune creature can walk throu a wall of fire without taking damage.

I believe that an attack cannot be reduced below 1 die unless the target is Immune to that attack type. So the DPS would still take 1 die worth of damage.

This is right.

Correct 1 die min unless immune.

So the barrier would only trigger if the hit was successful.
If the hit was reduced to zero by armor, the defense barrier would still trigger.

Yes.

In addition to reducing the damage, Dark Pact Slayer's Flame -2 also knocks a -2 off of the burn chance roll from the Damage Barrier's secondary effect roll.

In order for a Damage Barrier to trigger, the creature who has the Damage Barrier must suffer from a "successful" melee attack. Now, the word successful can be a bit misleading. The creature does not have to take damage from a melee attack, it just has to have a melee attack made against it. This means dice are actually rolled against it. If the attack is avoided or cancelled for any reason (such as a Daze condition or a Defense roll) then the Damage Barrier does not trigger. However, if all of the dice roll blanks or are absorbed by armor, the Damage Barrier still gets to hit back.
An attack can never be reduced below 1 die, as others have stated. The Flame -2 trait would reduce the Circle of Fire to a 1 die attack and reduce the effect chance by 2.
Flame Immune creatures can indeed walk through a wall of fire without needing to roll anything against them.
