Events / Re: ADMW Open - OCTGN Tournament!
« on: April 06, 2016, 05:37:48 PM »
Thank you Coshade for inviting me to the tournament. I also have mixed feelings with this because I was hoping to see some games with the dude; but on the other hand I'm happy that I can be in the tournament now ... I really do hope the dude is fine and although I will not be able to replace him (playstrength wise) I will try to be as hard a challenge for my opponents as I can be ;)

For the records:
* Forum name (as you can see) and OCTGN name is Tyrnan

Rules Discussion / Re: enchantment transfusion
« on: February 10, 2016, 04:59:42 AM »
Hmm .. ran into another question in my game against the husband tonight.  I was on my Beastmaster and he was on his Warlock.  He revealed Enchantment Transfusion to move a stack of three curses to me, the first one (he picked which one since it was his initiative) was Nullified, and then I wanted to reveal an Enchantment Transfusion on my Fellella to move another Nullify to my mage to prevent a second curse, but we ruled that was an interruption of the one action used to move all three curses, so I took two curses.

Did we do that correctly?  Do you count the transfusion of multiple face down enchantments as all one action, or are they separate (and this interruptable by the reveal of another Enchantment Transfusion)?  If they are separate, do they count as being cast on the target, or is moving an enchantment different than casting it?
You can't Nullify Enchantment Transfusion like that. Nullify is triggered during the Counter Spell. When you reveal ET like this it has already been successfully cast. Currently there is not much you can do to avoid ET once it is revealed. Zuberi might have more on this front, but that is what I can come up with this late at night.

Also worthy of note is that the curses already have been successfully cast. All they are doing is being moved to a new object.
So what about [mwcard=MWSTX2FFQ05]Harshforge Plate[/mwcard] then? It states that the enchantments targeting this mage cost 2 additional mana "to cast". If the enchantment is cast already, just moving it to the mage having Harshforge Plate equipped should not cost additional mana. Correct?

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Card of the Week #1: Tanglevine
« on: February 08, 2016, 06:57:06 AM »
Thanks Dude,
I love the idea of card of the weak.
This one was a very enjoyable read and I would love to read more.
Also think Tanglevine really deserves being "card of the weak". Its one of my favorites.

Rules Discussion / Re: minor essence drain & psi-orb
« on: February 03, 2016, 07:06:37 AM »
Essence Drain doesn't have an Upkeep Cost. It gives the creature it's attached to an Upkeep Cost. If that creature is a Mind Spell, then you have a Mind Spell with an Upkeep Cost, and Psi-Orb kicks in.
Thanks for clarifying this Zuberi. I missed the case that the creature affected by essence drain could be a mind spell. Makes sense now for me.

[mwcard=FWQ07]Psi-Orb[/mwcard] lets you reduce the Upkeep Cost of Mind Creatures and would indeed work on a regular [mwcard=MW1E15]Essence Drain[/mwcard], to reduce it down to an Upkeep of 1, however Minor Essence Drain is not an Upkeep Cost. It may be mechanically identical, but there is nothing on the card, the rules, or the rules supplement that equates it as such, so Psi-Orb would be ineffectual.
I would add, that Psi-Orb reduce upkeep cost of spells you control. In this case, you control your creature-spell. Minor Essence Drain in this case is a spell you oponents control.
Am I missing something?  ??? [mwcard=FWQ07]Psi-Orb[/mwcard] affects "up to 3 different mind spells that you control". So neither is [mwcard=MW1E15]Essence Drain[/mwcard] a mind spell nor is this spell usually controlled by the mage that needs to pay the upkeep. So in my view Psi-Orb should not reduce the upkeep from Essence Drain.

Great Post Intangible0  :)
Sounds like a lot of work but I totally want to do this for my books now ...

@Sailor Vulcan:
Great hint saving the game log in OCTGN. I didn't know it is possible. Thanx for that!

I had a very short game with Sailor Vulcan. Short because i had to end our game and go to theatre with my wife (curse you cultural education! :) )

Right now, it doesnt run in Chrome and one need to have Unity Player installed. I used Opera. Whole game and everything around can be handled with Mouse. Left button for dragging and right button for bringing up dial menu. Everything was pretty easy to comprehend. I cant wait for full version and those intense battles. I am also pretty curious how they will handle book building :)
Glad to hear that you liked it :)
I'm hoping for lots of players that join tabletopia when it is finished since then we would have a real cross platform online version for mage wars. About the deck building: Laddinface stated in another thread that they are working on it. I'm also curious how it will be handled ...

Hi Fentum and Sailor Vulcan,
just go to http://blog.tabletopia.com/ and find the entry from november the 20th (Games for this weekend) . There is a link that will take you to a game room with mw academy. It does not make sense to post that link here, because it will become stale after a while which i guess is what happened to the link in the other thread.
Both starter spellbooks are there. Each player can just pickup one and you can start playing. It does not support any automation or does enforce any rules whatsoever, so it should be exactly after your taste, Sailor. Hope that helps ...

General Discussion / Re: Serious Kudos to Arcane Duels
« on: December 14, 2015, 09:15:19 AM »
Well thanks guys! We really appreciate it.

The community has really boomed in the past year or so, but we're not the only ones that contributed.
  • LordOfWinter - Was keeping a constant blog post along with keeping people informed about developments in the company.
  • SiKe - Working relentlessly to keep the game updated on OCTGN so we can all play remotely.
  • ACG - The other face of OCTGN, along with throwing out Card ideas.
  • Sailor Vulcan - Constantly posting in the forums to keep it alive and bringing up interesting ideas to spark conversation, in addition to working on builds that don't need expansions.
  • Schwenkgott - Doing all of the things, but also giving us the quarterly Thunderdome tournaments.
  • TheDude - Being awesome and starting the Mage Roars League.
  • Sharkbait - Starting the MageCast podcasts on strategy and contributing heavily to the AD stream.
  • Puddnhead - Cohosting the MageCasts and also being on the stream frequently.
And these are just the immediately apparent ones coming to mind (Sorry if I forgot to mention you). There are so many playtesters and great players improving the game every day.

AWESOME!

I'm a bit late here but I also want to add a big thank you to Coshade and Intangible and all of the above. You guys helped me to stay connected to mage wars, to learn much and more about playing Mage Wars and to keep my faith that I will eventually find a local group for regular playing, which I finally did.
I also want to point out that Schwenkgott also does a great job for the german community by posting in the german forums at pegasus on a regular basis, my special thanks for that, Schwenkgott.

General Discussion / Re: Status of Tabletopia Module

Hooray :D it's there! Magewars Acadamy is available on Tabletopia. (see http://www.arcanewonders.com/arcane-wonders/mage-wars-academy-launches-on-tabletopia).

Thanks to the people at Arcane Wonders and Tabletopia that made this happen!

Now some additional questions come to mind:
* After beta phase, will it be a free game or a premium one?
* Will Mage Wars Arena also be available on Tabletopia?
* if so, will it be free or premium?
* ... (no, I won't ask about Domination (yet ;-) ))

As far as I understand it, you can still gain early access by doing a "late pledge"  here: https://tabletopia.com/preorder. For $10 you get early access and there are higehr pledge levels, where you get additinal subscription months with a discount.

for mac users: can't you just download an (illegal) windows interface and run it on that?

My mac can run windows just fine, but I'm not thrilled by re-partitioning my hard drive and dual booting. Or paying ~$100 for a copy of Windows. And no, I'm not going to pirate my OS.
+1

This would have exactly been my answer if you didn't post it earlier.

So in the end, the system is pretty solid, but the biggest advantage is reach. They reach players we wouldn't normally reach.
Yes. For instance with Tabletopia you will reach all the people using Mac OS X and Linux.

There were some statements form the OCTGN developers that they plan to create a Mac version but theses are more than a year old. So as a Mac user the only option is to use Wine here. For my system I finally managed to make it run with Wine but although I can use the spellbookbuilder and start or join games it keeps on crashing in the middle of my games, which takes all the fun out of it and prohibits to take part in games with people I do not know personally  :(

For this reason (and also the overall more polished UI) I'm very excited about Tabletopia because I think this will enable me to play mage wars online at last in the very near future.

Please note that I really appreciate the work of the OCTGN team for making and keeping the work up on this great non commercial platform and also of sIKE, creating the awesome mage wars module but since it doesn't run on my system (yet) I'm very happy that there is an alternative which looks really promising.

Thank you very much for the prompt response.
Just to earn some points for my degree in stating the obvious:  I'm really looking forward to this ;D

Since I have finally given up on getting OCTGN to run stable under Mac OS X I wondered if somone from arcane wonders could say something official about the status of the mage wars module for Tabletopia. Will it be available with the open beta (starting in 1st week of december according to the Tabletopia site)? Or will it be released after the release version of Tabletopia is available?
