Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Universal Spell
« on: January 23, 2013, 11:31:12 AM »
I was thinking about this universal "school" but it makes not much difference.

Dispel and Dissolve is good to be school specific. If everybody could have for the same than everybody would put 6 copies. The Wizard plays with magic, so Dispel is his type of spell.

There could be other spells wich are similar but too much similarity kills the mages individuality.

I'm finding it hard to believe out of 110 cards, 3 is considered 'a lot'.

I mean in the future expansions, tomes. So 2 copies of these "epic X mage only" type cards are ok, but no more.

Alternative Play / Re: Without spell preperstion.

I think that will ruin the game, because the Dispel type spells will be much stronger, you can use them after you see some bothering spell. E.g. opponent has a good equipment -> Dissolve, has some enchantment (reverse magic to defend the equipment) ->Seeking Dispel it and after  Dissolve.

Ok, you are right about backup. Now I say it's fine to have other copies, just don't want to have a lot of backup cards when I'll buy new tomes, expansions.
We will discuss what we like to have in the future tomes. :)

General Discussion / Re: Core Spell Tome 2 - 2nd EPIC cards?

I try to express my thoughts better. (My english isn't the best, I try to be clear)

Mage Wars producers wants to make products for the majority, e.g. 7th Dispel: the majority play with 1 core or at least has friends for casual plays, who did't buy MW. So they can use 7 copies often.
I see that the argument about having the 7th "useless" Dispel affect only a few players (who probably have enough money because his friends have the core set + spell tomes too, or if they haven't, the 7th Dispel wouldn't be useless for them).

And I think you can't say to buy singles, because it's not in the "plan" (and I have other problems: shipping, tax to EU, won't be cheaper) . The plan is to make products for the majority. The producers don't want to force you to buy singles, only if you have special wants. At least I read they words so.

So at this point I can't see why is this good for the majority. If they put mages in the spell tomes it's ok, because at that moment you can use those spells.

I'd like to see what's the official response.

p.s.: I don't want to lay to charge (maybe not the best expression, sry my lack of english). Everybody at MW was so helpfull with me and others, and they answered everything logically. I just really want to understand why is this good, or what's the plan.

If there is a second market seller you could get the extra mages for just a few bucks and with one core set and each tome you could make really good mirror match spell books without the need to purchase another base set. Saving you around $30.

plus a friend could get into the  for $40 nstea

I can't buy the mages, it takes 1 month to get a core set too.
About the friend: it would be better with a "small core set" with the 4 mages, less spells, maybe no tokens and dices. It could have the epic spells, and it would be cheaper.

Ok, it's only 3 spells but I think it makes no sense.

I see what you like to say, and you are right. But the problem isn't with epic or epic + school type spells, but epic + mage only, like as:

[ol]
  [li]Gate to Hell: epic + warlock only[/li]
  [li]Gate to Voltary: epic + wizard only[/li]
  [li]Pentagram: epic + warlock only[/li]
[/ol]

I found this 3, probably these are all.
These cards you really can't use only if you have another core set. (Or if you want a wizard-wizard fight, you must make a mage card with his/her special cards but then probably you won't have enough spells from the schools so again you will buy another core set)

By the way, I'll be glad with (in the end) 6 copies of lvl 1 spells, 4 copies of higher except legendary, unique, epic: probably 2 of them is enough (maybe 3 from cheaper (mana) legendary)
And it could be more of the cheap, very usefull spells, because maybe both players want to put a few in his/her books too.

General Discussion / Core Spell Tome 2 - 2nd EPIC cards?
« on: December 14, 2012, 11:05:08 AM »
I was reading the spell list, and found some epic spells. This is my first time when I feel bad about the game. Why do we need second epic spells?
You can't say for 2 players because they don't have enough mages then.

In the first Spell Tome there was +1 Dispel but it's ok, because 2 players with 1 set need that, but this 2nd epic spells...

Rules Discussion / Re: Some questions
« on: December 14, 2012, 06:26:30 AM »
1. Don't need to pay the mana to remove. You have to pay the mana when you cast a removal spell, using ability (priestess).
2. I can't understand the question. :D

The explanations are good, and I don't want to be uncomprehending, just this Chain Lightning is so different to me than other attacks it must clear for me. I imagine it like a "real" chain, with 0 or 1 long links.

I think it doesn't matter that Reverse Attack is on the 1st, 2nd etc. target, only the distance matter.

A.) Target is in the same zone or 1 zone away. It redirect back the sequence and the attack continues with the next sequence from the target or the caster?

B.) Target is 2 zones away minimum. The reveresed attack sequence has no target in the range, only countered, and the chain is ended here. Right?

General Questions / Re: why we need line up hidden enchantment spell? ...
« on: December 12, 2012, 03:08:48 PM »
I was thinking about timing issue:
Player A has Malacoda, and Malacoda is in the same zone as player B's creatures. Malacoda damages these (living) creatures at the Upkeep Phase. B can choose to regenerate first or take damage first, because these affecting his creatures.

Let's say Malacoda has an Upkeep +X trait (from enchantment). Maybe A doesn't want to pay the mana. I think here comes the Initiative thing.

If A has the Initiative he can say first Malacoda damages and after he pay or not the mana. B still can decide to use regen (if there are any) before of after the damage.

If B has the Initiative he can force A to decide to pay the mana before Malacoda damages the creatures.

Am I right?

What about Chain Lightning?
A.) It reverse only that attack sequence and
              1.) the original attacker continues
2.) after the bounce it ends
Does matter the distance from the Reverse Attack-ing creature to the caster or not?

B.) The defender takes control for the remaining attacks because it's like a chain, not individual attacks.

League / Tournament Play / Re: Tourniment Rules

First I was going to say recording is the best, but it's probably very expensive. Maybe with webcams and a computer you can build a cheaper system (I don't know how it works or is it working), players can use their too.

And I saw the token system. First I thought it's good, cheapest but I find problems: If you have multiple hidden enchantments you have to put tokens for all of them.
My resolve: with sleeves you can put in, at the front of the card the "attacked" or "used incantation/enchantment" tokens (papers).

Rules Discussion / "Attack" opponent with friendly spell
« on: December 12, 2012, 04:00:19 AM »
My friend doesn't believe I can cast  "friendly" spells on him.

I thought he has a Reverse Magic, and I wanted to Dissolve an equipment. I had only buffing enchantments and incantations, so I choosed to cast a Minor Heal (He had 0 damage, so nothing to loose). So can I?

In this manner can I cast any "friendly" spell on the opponent ( harming spell on me/my creature)?

I think there are no restrictions about it but I need verification. :)
