General Discussion / Re: No Lash of Hellfire in Core Spell Tome ?
« on: November 06, 2012, 07:42:26 PM »
I suppose.  I enjoy the mage only cards as that is the only way to grow the individual mages in the long run.

Me personally, I would do more of the specific cards in the long run.

Funny, but the cards that the CST had 2 of were sort of good, but not what I would have done.

Block, Jinx, nullify...  all right.

Force Push, Teleport... good

Shift enchantment... no thanks

How about a second Battle Fury!!!

Quibbles and gripes I know, but I am not happy if I am not moaning.  More of the Hand of Bim Shalla, Battle Fury, Reverse Attack!

I am with the OP here.

Now that I know what I know, I would recommend a second box set.  You can get it on Cool stuff Inc for 33.99.  Figure out a $100 order with a friend and shipping is free.

Core Spell Tome mitigates some of the issues, but a second base set is the way to go.

Ultimately, the money, when compared to a CCG, is way less.

If you love the game, it is truly the way to go.

General Discussion / Re: Question about the upcoming expansion

Sean McCoy said this at BGG:

Hey guys,

We tried very hard to get the expansion on shelves before Christmas - but it looks like it'll be shipping the first week in January '13.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I asked the same questions on the other site and the answer to the array of cards was not included.  They must be holding an announcement in the wings.

Rules Discussion / Re: Flyers pushed against outer walls. Bashed?

Normally flyers do NOT encounter walls, when moving or being pushed.  However, they do get bashed when pushed against the OUTSIDE arena walls.  Those are considered high walls, and the ultimate boundary to the arena.

I hope that clarification helps!

In order to push them into non arena wall you would need something like Maim Wings or Knock Down

Force Push.  Jet Stream.  No defense roll vs Force Push as well.  I would think that the push effect of Jet Stream is unavoidable to.

yes AOE spells and damage walls can help (with pushes and such)  taking out the spawn point can also help (or putting a gas cloud on the spawn point)  also a damage barrier (the circle of lightning) can help greatly.

I love the cloud on the spawn point.  That is great.

Suppression Cloak works well, as does flying.  Just cast Eagle Wings.

Spells / Re: Your Favorite Creature Spells

Huginn is a must kill.  Absolute must kill.  As Koz says, he swings the whole game in the wizards favor.  Even if you kill him, he has sucked up several actions to do it.  Force push is a great way to do that as you slam his annoying self into a wall for 3 unavoidable dice.  Perfect strike combined with a melee attack does it too, but is awful late by that point.

I like the Flaming Hellion for the Warlock, very versatile.  Firebrand imp is good too.  I like the Asyran Cleric for the Priestess.  Knight of Westlock or the Royal Archer are great too.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Wizard vs. Priestess...
« on: October 09, 2012, 06:26:52 PM »
The wizard needs some escape spells in case of a buff/in your face priestess....  some people pay extra for that, but in this game, survival is key, so pack a teleport, eagle wings, etc.

Jet Stream damages and pushes, bust them up against the wall for a bonus 3 dice.  Force push is great too.  Against a priestess, the force orb is nice.  Sleep is great too for that early big creature.

Early creatures (the thunderift falcon is completely awesome---A fast flyer cannot be underestimated.) will harass the opponent to force a reaction.

Follow that up with a mana crystal, an enchantment, or a piece of gear--- lightning ring is great.

Bottom line, to win, you have to damage.

Lightning bolt stuns and is your friend.    Chain lightning is awesome too.  Hawk eye boosts that along with lightning ring.

The best decks I have seen (that isn't saying much about me as I don't have massive exp) stack the mage to bust up the enemy.  Wizard has built in damage reduction, so he is about as good as it gets at going hand to hand.

Spells / Re: Is it just me, or is Bear Strength kind of busted?
« on: October 08, 2012, 08:29:29 PM »
Bear Strength is a perfect example of a spell I want more of.  It works well with all of the classes.

The "in your face" Beastmaster is the best looking deck I have seen thus far... (that isn't saying much considering how few I have played.)

The buffed wizard the pops off some healing is going to be a tough cookie in the current environment.

I want more Bear Strength, but it is just right at its cost.  Not busted.

The spell by itself is great.  As for the wand thing, I would not ever count on a wand with an attack spell bound to it lasting very long.  Explode, Dissolve, etc will go after it.

That said, it is a great combo, I just don't think you can build around/depend on it.

I like a battleforge (cheap overall cost) and then a mage buff of some type.  I like Cheetah Speed or Fly.

Battleforge early almost always is cost effective as it regularly contributes.  Wand, cheap armor, great armor, staff/lash.  Etc.

A creature works well too.  Something fast or something that flies.  Or, better yet, a fast flyer.  Thunderift Falcon comes to mind.
