Title: FC & NC?
Post by: Mr Puppers on May 12, 2013, 12:59:42 PM
I apologize for the newbie question but I've seen the terms NC and FC used to refer to specific zones.  What do they mean and which zones are they?

I'm assuming N(ear) C(orner) and F(ar) C(orner).

That is my guess.

I was thinking about doing a MW lexicon.

That would be great so should I just wait until this lexicon comes out to get a definitive answer to my question?

I agree that a lexicon would be a good idea.  For the OP's question I've always used the terms NC and FC (and assumed that others were as well) as referring to the two center zones on the board.  Near Center and Far Center (based on your starting position).

I've read it as Near and Far Corner (where you and the opposing mage start) with the doors on them.

The definition provided by Koz sounds correct to me and is what I guessed it might be.  I just wanted confirmation on that.  Thanks to all for the responses.

Far center, near center. Also known as the B2 and B3 square, like this:
A1 A2 A3
B1 B2 B3
C1 C2 C3
D1 D2 D3

Note that starting positions are  A3 (top right) and D1 (bottom left).

Don't you mean B2 and C2?
