General Discussion / Re: Removing effects

You need to use a spell that removes conditions, it will then usually tell you to pay removal costs.

Yep. Right now you're looking at playing as the Priestess and/or using Purify. I think that's about it ATM.

If I had to rationalize it, Id say because its not a zonewide pool of quicksand (otherwise the whole zone would suffer the effects, ala gas cloud) that its small enough that when the victim is pulled out of it that anyone else can see that part of the arena floor has been melted into a sand trap and can just step avoid it since zones are so much bigger areas than the quicksand area.

I know this is OT, but now that makes me want a zone-wide DOT that turns the zone into LAVA.

While we are on "what's needed for 3 and 4 players to play", I will happly see alternative board:
- two boards are ok solution for 4 players - but it makes me have to buy another Core Set and it will look only ok (wall in the middle of battlefield)
- for 3 players there should be some costum shape (maybe like this):

  xox
xxxxx
oxxxo
xxxxx

So maybe two 3x1 board pieces with drawn something (stairs, ramp, cliff) that will make wall around the oryginal arena like something else?

As mentioned above modular tiles would be awesome. the only issue with that idea is that they would move without shelf liner underneath or a plastic sheet over them.

also this works awesome with animal kinship. drop 2 or 3 after you get the 6 bitterwood foxes out and they really start to hit like trucks.

Doesn't your mage gain the benefit of kinship, not the foxes? Perhaps you meant Call of the Wild?

I guess I'm struggling with why a conjuration would go away just because the target is teleported out of it. Seems like it should stick around. Anyway... I get it.

It's just like in the movies: After you've sunken all the way into the quicksand it appears as regular sand again. :)

I would look at the revised core spell lists for the base set, it has 4 decks you can have concurrently without being short. Should at least solve one of your problems  :cheer:

Agreed. This is the simplest and most balanced solution to get started.

While it has been suggested, is there any way there could be a preview section added here to the site? I've got no access to FB during the work day, even during breaks and lunch, so it would be nice if I could see new info here :)

It sounds like an intersting style deck once the library of cards fleshes out a bit more.

I believe you...

but feels inconsistent with the fact that it's a conjuration.  I guess I was under the impression that conjurations stayed in a zone.   Seems like it should have been a trap enchantment card.

curious to hear the reasoning about what the difference is.

I think it's consistent; walls, temples, tanglevine, etc, are all conjurations. I'm not sure what other category this would fit into. You're creating quicksand under a target. Seems like a conjuration to me.

So I guess I will have to simply make copies of the stat boards for the mages and print them out if I want multiplayer?

I wasn't so keen on buying a second core so soon given that I had gotten the spell tomes and wanted to spend time with what I had before dropping another big chunk of change; not to mention the upcoming mage expansion.

I'm really glad we'll see token and marker packs. I've had some great discussion on BGG about "optimal" size of arena and if a second board is really the way to go (which I've basically decided against), so overall I've been hoping for everything to be piece meal any way.

DI is pretty useful when you use it in such an offensive way. Also, it's hilarious to watch a DI drop into a Teleport Trap or Hellfire Trap and watch the burn/forced teleport start XD

Man I love these forums. They're full of some great ideas

Hello fellow Mage Wars players, first things first I'm happy that I've bought this awesome game, the only problem so far I've had is the dice, but you can always think about average rolls so it lessens the luck. But to the main topic - I'm your basic enthustiastic gamer, I get hyped about new games, I wanna test them out etc etc. but there's one problem still in the ''card gaming business'' even though the classical collectible card game format is dropped. I'm talking about not getting all the cards for reasonable price. I've had this same problem with Fantasy Flight Games Warhammer Invasion and Android Netrunner.

So what I'm asking is, please, be the first company to make it easy to get all the cards and for reasonable price. The problem is for hardcore gamer like me that you can include six level one spells and four of higher level spells. I would need to buy probably four (or more even?) boxes of Mage Wars.

I do realize that selling cards cheaper / in more affordable collection box seems quite risky. But there are probably many players who don't get into card games like this because ''oh I can get in with just 50$ BUT if I want to be competitive I have to spend 300$''.

So make a man's dream come true and make a box compatitible with the core box which would give max ammount of all cards - even better would be the ammount for two players  :)

Hello, Nekra. Welcome to the forum.

Am I correct in reasoning that you are requesting packs of cards, sans board, dice, tokens, etc? That would probably be do-able from a financial standpoint, but it is an unlikely scenario from the perspective of hosting a sound business model.

The better alternative is that Arcane Wonders follows the reasonable and sound business model of redistribution through expansion, which is a concept enveloping the release of new cards for the base game in tandem with reprints of older, popular cards from the base game. This serves multiple purposes in that it increases the card pool (expands the broader game and enriches the game through added stock) and lowers the barrier for "suitcase" players and collectors, allowing them to (albeit on a schedule restricted by release) gradually fulfill complete "playsets" of every card in the game.

This formula is in use by a few companies, already, and is tried-and-true.

Under the current distribution, it is perfectly possible to be a "competitive" (whatever that means...there is no organized play system yet in place) Mage Wars player with only the base game and 1 or 2 copies of the current expansion.

Good Gaming.

-nihil

Someone was discussing the idea of proxy  use over on BGG. I'm against it for multiple reasons, not the least of which is, as nihil clarifies, it's not a requirement to have a full set to play well. There are many games that playing with full sets is a bad idea; A Game of Thrones for example.

They do work that way, yes.  You are understanding the Novice spell concept perfectly correct.

actually novice doesn't work the same way as i am suggesting.

Novice
Basic apprentice spells. All mages may add Novice spells to their spellbooks
for 1 Spell Point, even if they are not trained in that spell’s school of magic.

pulled directly from the rulebook. this means any spell irregardless of level or school that is tagged with the novice keyword will cost you 1 point. that's not what i am ask for. im ask for a keyword that makes a spell be considered in school.

I would have a fear of mages developing a samey feel.
