Title: Weak and Timing of bonuses
Post by: DaveW on June 07, 2017, 05:23:17 PM
If a creature has several more weak condition tokens than it has basic melee dice (going an effective negative number of attack dice), does a subsequent buff benefit the creature in giving no more dice? So...

Feral bobcat having four weak condition markers has an effective -2 dice and attacks with one

If this bobcat charges for +2 dice... do the existing weak conditions negate the +2 dice, or is it a timing issue... no new weaks reduced the bonus so it attacks with three ?

I think I would say if he has 4 weaks, I would just add the regular and + dice and subtract the number of weaks from that number to a mimumnum of one.
Could be wrong.

The fact that they continue to stack past a total die amount, unlike corrode markers that fall off into direct damage after you reach an armor max, leads me to believe that the effect is still cumulative. The rule is that the attacks can't be reduced to below one die,  but if you then add dice like bear strength, charge, or bloodthirsty, you would still have to subtract the total amount of weaks from the new dice total to a mimimum of one die. The only way around this is if you somehow added dice after the roll dice step, which is impossible currently.

What i really wanna know though is how that bobcat got so many weak tokens without dying. Lol

The effect of weak is constant, and can take you into negative attack dice. The way the rules are written, it's not that you can't be brought negative, it's just that you still get to roll 1 die anyways. It says that when you attack, you do all of the math, and then no matter what that result ends up being you get to roll at least 1 die.

So, you are completely correct that with the 4 weak you are at -2 attack dice. But you'll roll 1 anyways. When you gain the +2, you have -2+2=0. And again you'll roll 1 anyways.

That's a better way of saying it, yeah. ;)

The situation was hypothetical, but I will say that Renewing Spring is a wonderful thing... and that is only the first of several ways I can imagine it happening.

You certainly made good use of it last night, in that zone with your Pillar of Righteous Flame so none of my weenies could harass you... at least until you stepped out of the zone instead of drinking your fill... that was your fatal mistake sir....
