Here is the plan.
Opening
T1 -> Meditating Monk, Mana Crystal
If they choose to rush or I suspect aggression by turn 3 I change my plan here, otherwise I follow this thorugh
T2 -> Cassiel, Hand of Bim
If I feel safe I could put down a TOA, but usually I don't until turn 3
T3 -> Temple of Asyra, Ehren, Pray with Cassiel, and remove damage with hand of Bim

General plan onwards ---> From here out I will get more clerics to ramp mana. If I feel like I will be pressured I will immediately switch gears and go for Brogan or Alandell while also going for a cheap removing of damage on Ehren.

I'll go through each category and explain my reasoning. These cards are not actually set in stone. Right now I have 4 variants that I'm testing out and I'm not sure which I like best. i won't go into detail fom every card, but will give a generalization on the category with explanations on specifics if needed.

Attack Spells
I tend to go light on the attack spells with this dude. Most of damage will be coming from the high level creatures. usually I take Surging Waves, but in a book like this there are a ton of ways to daze and stun. Not to mention Brogan is a beast and can kill most things with defense quickly.

Luminous Blast --> I started with 4 and slowly realized I liked punching things with my mage more. This big thing here is when I want to burst down something. In every game there is usually one creature I want to burst down so 2 Luminous Blasts should do. As an more utility use, against a rush the daze helps me survive.

Conjurations
This is a Temple book! Have some typical cards you would see in Priest. The big thing i have my eye on right now is Malakai's Basilica. It's usually coming out later in the game after I use my Messengers of Bim.

Temple of Asyra --> I will usually delay until turn 3 to cast this. The reason is a lot of players are prepared for a Temple and try to rush me turn 1 and 2 to snipe it down. Especially the Warlords  8) If I can get a solid foundation down and they decide to rush I can typically win by not casting the Temple at all and just focusing on high level hard casting summons.

Creatures
This is the meat of the damage output. Typically I will HA a Cleric or Light of Dawn. If it's late game and they focus them down then Messenger of Bim is a great choice as well! Few things to note here

Meditating Monk --> Used as an opener. This guy gives you flexibility early so if they rush you have a little more advantage against it. Ideally he is a non-zone exclusive 1sbp mana crystal and if the late game happens mana doesn't matter anymore and he just hits stuff.

[mwcard=MW1C02]Asyran Cleric[/mwcard] --> This dude has amazing stats for his mana cost. Nobody wants to attack him when he is an HA because 11 life 1 armor seems annoying to deal with. If you get 2- 4 dice 1 pierce attacks off then he easily payed for himself. Typically in the mid game he will just be healing my priest if he is not in position to attack.

Temple Sentry --> This guy is great if they attack into your temple zone. You spawn him out of the temple and he is on guard. I wouldn't HA him unless the circumstances are right.

Light of Dawn --> Can be switched out with White Cloak Knight, unsure which I want more

Messenger of Bim-Shalla--> This card combos well with the temple. If you summon them out of it during deployment you can get some unexpected healing that could clinch the match.

Enchantments

Song of Love --> This enchantment is deceptively powerful. Unlike [mwcard=FWE01]Charm[/mwcard], this card lets you attack the creature in love. Typically this is how I deal with Alandell, Leviathan, Bears, or other high level creatures.

Lifelink/Restore --> This card is awesome on any of the high level creatures. Because holy creatures typically have high armor and low life, this cards lets you have them survive longer to get more damage out. The main purpose of this book is to get damage on the enemy through your creatures, this card directly lets your creatures survive longer to get that damage out there. Also is decent for Ehren if you need healing in a pinch.

Knight's Courage/Bear Strength --> Knight Courage is an amazing card with these higher level dudes. The Bear Strength is used just to get more damage out. Typically I will put one on my mage and the other for Brogan or Ehren.

Force Orb --> This is a relic from the older book. It's used to counter rushes mainly or for late game if they want to hurl boulder you down. Combo this with dazing and you can usually make one attack spell moot.

Equipment
This is a pretty typical layout for me. I've been liking the Resplendent Bow against flyers, and when they dissolve that switching to mage wand knockdown. The Dragonscale is because fire is scary and this is totally needed to survive (especially since I do not run Surging Waves). The two Mage Wands are typically casted in a game. Since I have a lot of Incantations this is how I keep the toolbox open. longer.

Incantations

Knockdown --> Since I don't run surging waves I took one of these. It's great at dealing with FM. Use it with a Mage Wand and make sure to get dazes when you can. Also this card rocks vs flyers! If they are swarming flying, then mage wand it.

Purge Magic --> This is something I've been putting in every book. I might want to go up to Destroy magic honestly. Recently there have been a massive amount of awesome enchantments introduced to the game and getting value with this card can happen in more games then not. On a side note if you mage wand it on their initiative then use it at end QC, you can have initiative to QC a WOH so you don't lose your Purge Magic. Very useful if you think they have backups.

For anyone curious on the predecessor to this book --> http://forum.arcanewonders.com/index.php?topic=16079.msg58119#msg58119

Events / ADMW Winter Special - OCTGN Tournament
« on: November 06, 2016, 11:40:22 AM »
    ADMW Winter Special

    Standards
    • The tournament will be played in two stages. The first stage will be a round robin. There will be 16 total players separated into 4 groups. The top two players in each group will advance to the second stage. Each player must play at least 1 game every week. Extensions will only be granted on a case by case basis. The tournament will begin December 17th. Once all players complete a round of matches, the next week will begin.
    • A tie break looks at the match record between tied participants. For example, if Katherine and Dave are tied based on statistics but Katherine won when they played during the tournament, Katherine wins the tie break. When more than 2 participants are tied, they're ranked by the number of wins each one had against the others.
The second stage will be a double elimination tournament. The date to begin will be determined after the first stage is completed.
    • All cards from Lost Grimoire and all sets prior are legal to use. All promotional cards available on OCTGN are also legal.
    • Players will build a spellbook with the standard amount of spellbook points and restrictions.

    Restrictions
    • Errata
The Wizard and Wizard’s Tower has not been updated on OCTGN. We will be using the current errata even though the actual cards are not changed. This will also apply to spellbook building which has not been updated. So Wizard will be trained in Air, and Arcane only.
      Link to Wizard’s Tower Errata → http://www.arcanewonders.com/arcane-wonders/wizard-ability-card-and-wizards-tower-errata

      Disciple of Radiance text change
Once per round, whenever your Mage casts or reveals a healing spell, Disciple of Radiance may deal 1 direct light damage to a target creature in her zone.

    Rules
If a player gets disconnected and dropped during a tournament match it will be considered a loss for that player

A judge makes the final call on a rule. Any argumentative discussion that takes an excessive amount of time will receive a warning then if it continues that player will be disqualified.

The Upkeep phase must be completed as quickly as possible. You are not allowed to delay Upkeep due to planning.
    ***Clarification***
Upkeep will have a time limit of 3 minutes. All optional abilities (lifelink, voltaric shield, etc.) must be decided in this phase. You are not allowed to reverse these effects once upkeep phase has finished.

Planning phases will be timed. You are allowed 5 minutes (300 seconds) at the start of the planning phase using the in game timer. Judges will regulate the timer - If there is no judge you can agree to not time the match

During both the first and last quick cast and the main action phase - Players will be limited to 1 minute to decide each action. Executing an action will not be timed. Judges will regulate the timer - If there is no judge you can agree to not time the match.

Only games from the second stage are required for judges. You and your opponent may both agree to play a game without a judge. If one player wishes to have a judge then the game must be put on hold until a time can be arranged for all parties involved. After the game both players must submit the results.

    ***************Please Read This****************
There will be no spellbook submissions. You can choose to use one mage twice, and all other mages once. You do not have to make mage choices known before the match. I have gotten some PMs about a strategy manual Intangible and I were working on awhile ago. I'm hoping to get around to it sometime soon! This topic is along the same lines of strategy, but I'm not sure it is appropriate to include it in the guide.  I just wanted to preface this post by saying this analysis is still a work in progress. I thought I would get a discussion going to get more opinions on the topic. I hope this post reaches on some sort of deep competitive train of thinking. So basically here's some word vomit.

I've been creating an idea in my brain about what it means to be going for the late game as a control build vs hitting a timing push earlier on. The big difference is economy, and that doesn't mean just mana but actions, life and much more. Generally I've been noticing that the more spawn points, familiars, or basic economy generators you have, the more control like you want to be.

So early timing pushes I want classify as the "Kill the Mage" technique. Big creatures, attack spells, and trying to trap you in situations you will lose either way. This play style hits hard. It requires the opponent to properly identify when you are attacking and must respond absolutely perfect or will lose. The downside is that it is inflexible as you are setting the pace, and once lost, it is very difficult to pick back up. This is because there is such low economy in this style. Since you are going for the mage, losing things is a given but trying to win within a time frame is of upmost importance.

For later game strategy I've noticed a lot of players tend to "Kill the threat" technique. This involves building up a slight edge in economy, then trying to survive by a sliver to in the end overwhelm your opponent. It also revolves around being reactionary as opposed to setting a pace. The timing is more flexible because your goal is to stay just far enough ahead of your opponent economy wise to win out. What is interesting with this option is that you may not want to take out their economy since you always are ahead, instead you take out the things their economy is producing - equipment, enchantments, creatures for instance. The difficult part about this is you must build a tree of contingencies to deal with all the options that are available to kill you. What is interesting about this style is that when you lose, you tend to have done zero or close to zero damage to the enemy mage. This shouldn't be viewed as a slight in your play style, rather that your reaction to their style was not appropriate and you must revise your strategy when vsing that style again.

I have public books on both of these trains of thinking. A weird thing I've been thinking about is in every game is there always a player that sets the pace and another that must react? Can both be going for the long game equally, or both hit a earlier timing push equally? Even if playing the same mage and the same book once a few dice are rolled does that put you in a strange position in this context?

General Discussion / Arcane Duels Changing Personnel
    « on: September 07, 2016, 07:26:39 PM »
    Hey guys!

I just wanted to write a post about Arcane Duels. I’ve been getting a lot of questions on where Intangible is, or when we are going to be doing our next live videos.

Intangible has expressed that he is going to be too busy to continue doing Mage Wars videos. He has decided to go back to school for coding and video game design. Full time school with a full time job is not easy to balance time wise. I look forward to seeing what kind of new and exciting things he does in the future! He’s been my friend since High School (over 10 years now!) and we still hang out all the time. It’s always expressed that if he wants to join back up he is more than welcome too.
I would like to also announce that we have two new members of the Arcane Duels roster. Sharkbait and Puddnhead! They run the amazing Mage Cast. If you haven’t checked it out I posted a link below. Sharkbait is someone I always look for on his opinion for properly finishing a game in a timely manner. I daresay he is the best Adramelech in the world. Puddnhead has been gaining more and more skill with a variety of mages. He always has some trick up his sleeve that gives him an edge.
While Sike is on leave, Arcane Duels has decided to take up OCTGN updates. We are trying to integrate Academy Warlock and Priestess right now. While it is still unsure how much automation we can put in, we at least want to get the cards so everyone can enjoy these awesome sets! There are some major hurdles we are figuring out, but rest assured we are trying to get it done.
On the topic of routine videos. I would like to express that I want to start doing live videos again. Life is pretty busy as we get closer to the holidays for me. Puddnhead and I want to learn the advanced stuff to keep the quality and get the videos out on a more regular basis. The streaming is just fun hanging out and will always be around.
Going to the tournaments. We will most likely run another one after PvS has had some time to sink in. I had a blast with the last one, and would love to do it again!
As always, our goal at Arcane Duels is to bring everyone on a meta that is of the highest competitive level through our videos and our spellbook posts. I know I have learned a lot just from the comments from the videos we’ve put out about how to improve my playstyle, and I hope you have had a chance to examine your own as well.

Thanks for all the support and let’s all give a welcome to Sharkbait and Puddnhead to the Arcane Duels team!

Events / ADMW Open - OCTGN Tournament!
    « on: February 17, 2016, 09:37:46 PM »
    ADMW Open

    Standards
    • The tournament will be played in two stages. The first stage will be a round robin. There will be 16 total players separated into 4 groups. The top two players in each group will advance to the second stage. Each player must play at least 1 game every week. Extensions will only be granted on a case by case basis. The tournament will begin March 25th.
The second stage will be a single elimination tournament. The date to begin will be determined after the first stage is completed.
    • All cards from Beastmaster vs Wizard Academy and all sets prior are legal to use. All promotional cards available on OCTGN are also legal.
    • Players will build a spellbook with the standard amount of spellbook points and restrictions.

    Restrictions
    • Wizard
Arcane Zap no longer has ethereal
    • Promo
Ballista is considered Unique and Warlord Only

    Become a Participant

To enter this tournament please email your user name to Arcaneduels@gmail.com

There are only 16 slots available so sign up today! Any player can sign up for the tournament after the slots are full and be on a standby list.

There will be no spellbook submissions. You are restricted to only using a mage once. For example if you play the Wizard round 1 - you will not be allowed to play the Wizard for the rest of the tournament. The Wizard can only be chosen once, changing the minor school will not be considered a different mage.

Competitors will be randomized at the beginning of the tournament to determine which group they are in. Until the tournament officially begins you will not know who you first opponent will be.

    ***********Update***************
We have increased the size of the tournament to 20 players. This means that we will be having a bye in each group. This means you get a week to prepare for you next match! As a reminder you can always have your matches in your group even if it is not the assigned player this week (so two matches in one week if you can both find time).
