Disarm and armor
« on: March 26, 2015, 04:01:02 PM »
Hi!

I played a disarm on my buddies dragonscale hauberk with the armor +2 trait. Does that put his armor out of action for that round? The codex is a bit un-clear. It says: ".... Disabled objects lose all attack bars, action bars and non-trait abilities". Non trait suggesting that the armor +2 is still present.

This would mean that disarming my own armor to loose corrodes would also not work?

Armor +2 is a trait, but the armor says that it gives your mage that trait and that ability does not work anymore.

Armor +2 is a trait, but the armor says that it gives your mage that trait and that ability does not work anymore.

It is a subtle distinction. Basically, only traits that the equipment itself has remain unaffected. In the case of the Hauberk, it does not have the Armor +2 trait, instead it has a non-trait ability that grants the Mage the Armor +2 trait. Because of this distinction, Disable will suppress the ability.

Zuberi is correct.

Which means using Disarm on yourself will remove Corrodes.

Yes, it has the potential to do that.

Only if the armor trait comes from an equipment ability. If it's from an enchantment like rhino hide than disarm won't remove the corrodes.

I am Sailor Vulcan! Champion of justice and reason! And yes, I am already aware my uniform is considered flashy, unprofessional, and borderline sexually provocative for my species by most intelligent lifeforms. I did not choose this outfit. Shut up.

Don't you just love going down the rabbit hole! Yes this is true though Disarm can only target Mage and then you choose the piece of equipment in question. So Disarm would never effect Rhino Hide, but will effect Equipment that provides the Armor trait.

This might be getting off topic some, but I feel like pointing out the difference between Disarm the spell and Disable the condition. There's nothing preventing Rhino Hide from being Disabled except for the fact that such a spell does not currently exist. Disarm may only affect equipment, but future spells could very well Disable enchantments.

That's an interesting remark ... coming from a playtester :)

It's not revealing anything behind the scenes. Anyone can look at the Disable condition and see the possibility. It does not mention Equipment, instead it specifically refers to Object, which means it can affect Equipment, Enchantments, Conjurations, and even Creatures. The only thing lacking is the specific spells to make these things possible.

Which is to say that we wouldn't be doing our jobs as playtesters if the thought never occurred to us. Is such a thing currently in process? We couldn't say, and wouldn't.
I can take the fun out of anything. It's true; here, look at this spreadsheet.
