Title: Modern day blasting banker
Post by: Reddicediaries on January 29, 2017, 02:47:47 PM
If someone was to make a modern day blasting banker, what mage would they use and why?

I do not know yet, still in the thinking process.
Druid, siren, and wizard seems good choices.

Siren and wizard are still the best options. They only pay double at most for any given school. Druid pays triple for war and fire so the cards you need to bank the actions are at a high premium. The wizard is likely still the strongest choice, but i can see a siren with naiya and a boat load of cheap water spells might be able to accomplish the same task

Wizard has Zap and Voltairic Shield.  This alone makes him the optimal choice for saving mana/actions to outlast people.  Forge + Gate + Tower(even nerfed) makes you able to out action very easily.  Mordok's Tome might be a good choice to just have options when learning the book.  Eventually, you'll want to replace it with another wand most likely once you've got your skill up.

I'm still not sure it will survive this new meta.  Ballista is now live and the tower doesn't save the attack spell anymore anyway.  You'll have to bring a lot of positioning spells to deal with Steep Hill and Shallow Sea and that might cut into your toolkit.

Why not use a warlord? Helm of command, lots of armor, gurmash, hurl boulders etc.

He has bad acsess to seeking dispel, dispel, teleport. You need max removal with this deck.

Both of these deck has very low damage output.

Especially the Siren deck feels "wrong"

No songs, only 1 in school Elemental Wand, Healings not that great.

Without counting it id bet you could make a better Druid with almost the same cards.

Actually im in the same boat as Sailor. Dwarf should be able to keep his wands and be much better at dealing damage.

Its much easier for Wizard to bank mana - use arcane ring/zap, put armor on your mage, remove all armor and stuff on the enemy mage - then throw 3 Fireballs or something like that at em.

Some of these games might take forever :(

I don´t mind a 6 hour game now and then, but imagine 2 tanks vs each other?

Usually they just agree on a draw after 5+ hours, so the 10+ hour game are very rare.

You could do some horrific thing with holy as well.

I do like long games, but..

Warlord may give you a tanking option, but it can no do what the banker does. The banker needs max dispels and lots of teleports. Also, he uses curses and or banked enchantments to gain mana. That doesńt work as well with warlord. He may be a great tank, but not for the Blasting Banker IMO.

Are you thinking [mwcard=MWSTX1CKQ05]Dispel Wand[/mwcard] in one hand and [mwcard=MW1Q19]Mage Wand[/mwcard] of [mwcard=MW1I07]Dissolve[/mwcard] in the other? Or just the Mage Wand of Dissolving in one hand and [mwcard=MW1Q08]Elemental Wand[/mwcard] for an attack spell from the toolbox, with [mwcard=MWSTX2FFJ01]Harshforge Monolith[/mwcard] and maybe [mwcard=MWSTX2FFE03]Arcane Corruption[/mwcard] to take care of enchantments?

I feel like Adramelech Warlock might be good, especially with Demonhide Mask giving the enemy Flame +1 might be a good idea... but kind of specializes in Flame.

Champion's Gauntlets make your hand slot items indestructible.   You can easily carry 4+ of these and deploy them from your Battle Forge.  Mage Wand can have Rune of Reforging on it (cantrip) and you can equip yourself with Harshforge Plate...and Armor Ward.

This means:
It costs 10 mana to Dissolve the Gauntlets (at range 1) and an additional 13 mana to Dissolve the Mage Wand....which will go back into the spellbook instead of actually being destroyed.  Both of these things must be done on the SAME turn or you will just Deploy more gauntlets the next turn.  Sounds like you only need 1-2 Teleport and Dispel to be effective here.

As warlord, you can not include many nullifies or transfusion, both key parts of the banker.

You can put 6 of each in as a warlord if you wish. Sbp might be high but its there to do if you want. There are also cheaper alternatives that work similarly but not the same like shift ench and arcane ward.

Instead of 10 mana you can also pay 1 (level) +2 (additional for harshforge plate) and disarm those gautlets then dissolve the wand. That is much cheaper if you want to get rid of a wand. But it remains a bad deal and if the wand is cantrip that's even worse.

Hmm this is interesting. I wonder if druid might not be a bad choice after all. water at x1 cost and channel 10.

I don't think it is a good idea trying to run the other player out of cards as a win condition without playing alot of creatures. The reason for that is battle forge is in the game and what the card allows is to:

either wait for the opponent to spend both their actions, play mage wand, dissolve one of their equipment, during deplyment get some other wand on the same slot from the forge, returning mage wand to your spellbook and repeat.

Or have a nullify on your mage and wait for them to spend one action and do the same thing just mentioned.

Because of this battle forge needs to be destroyed in order to win the "wand game". By protecting their battle forge with maybe 3-4 guardian angels your opponents will get to much use of it before you killed all the angels. In order to keep people from doing this you need board control and thus creatures.
