Hey guys,

i've finally managed to get my hands on a copy of BG Domination this weekend here in Belgium. And i'm so looking forward to try it out !!! My gamebuddy also owns a copy and we're gonna meet somewhere soon. Since i've never played the adramalech warlock (i mainly play Druid , Warlord, Necro and FM)..i thought to give it a shot and especially prepare her for Domination !

here's the book :

my idea was to first cast Sersiryx and to use it as of round 2 to attack a sslack with a flameblast.  Afterwards i would try to cast galaxxus, next to the zone where the sslak used to be, and to start gaining V'tar from both the galaxxus and the closest orb i would control by now. After that phase i would try to get to the opposing mage, to keep him from winning v'tar - the idea was to that by opening a V'Torrak gate...and to let all the demons get to him !

The ghoul is there to get fast to the orbs, the imps to teleport to the orbs...

i'm just not sure about the include of the Battleforge or the Pentagram..so i left them both in...mainly to have the choice while the game develops...could be that i have to equip my mage, could be that i need the mana to start casting those demons !!!

Spellbook Design and Construction / My first Forcemaster...since 2012

Well..i've been playing MW since 2012 (not on a regular basis though)...but the FM...never ever tried to play her before...I really don't know, but i didn't feel a connection with this mage..untill now..

This is my first try at a FM build..quite classic i think, but should be good fun in fast aggro play. I haven't tried this build yet so that's why i'm asking you guys to have a look at it and let me know if i haven't included too much unnecessary spells, and enough creatures...

In short i would like to move quickly to opposing mage, cast grizzly, cast a thoughtspore with an attack spell, and then equip myself with galvitar..Vampiric is there to enchant/protect my grizzly. Bim Shalla and bear strength to beef him up (should i include enchanter's ring to get a discount for all those ench's ?). Should i loose the grizzly, and the first thoughtspore, i would repeat with Necro and 2nd thoughtspore ! Maim wings, charm, sleep and force hold are there to catch large flying stuff. Force hammer for annoying conjurations. Firestorm against swarms. I also wonder whether i have enough "upkeep" enchantments to include the psi-orb..maybe not really necessary and could be replaced with more efficient spell..

i'm trying to have an effective swarm based build for the Warlord, but it's really not that easy...

i tried a scenario in which i build up my own mage with equipment through battleforge and at the same time build up my conjurations, but that was really too slow..i didn't present any danger to my opponent in that build up phase, so he quickly switched to aggro attacking me and my conj's !

i still would like to swarm, but i think i will have better tools with this build :

i would open in a classic way, with barracks and constr.yard and add a tower to put in a ranged guy..

i would equip my mage with armor and elemental wand.  I have two of these because i find this weapon to be the most effective and flexible, for melee as well as ranged...

please let me know if this build could work...

General Discussion / Mana counter / round simulator

Has anybody ever succeeded in creating an easy digitalized way (excel or else) to calculate / simulate mana spending round by round ? i've tried this many times in excel, but there are so many things to include...spawnpoints, rings that decrease mana cost, harmonize etc...this makes it hard to standardize calculation...

this is the first time i will play the anvil warlord, so i will try to play the most obvious scenario : getting out Talos.
the idea is to put the tower in NC , barracks in my starting corner and constructing yard in the opposing corner, to have the 3 outposts operational.
i would try to put a goblin slinger - i think the crossbow guy is just a bit too expensive to allow my build up -  in the tower to give my side of the arena some protection. After that i would builld the AOD, and try to survive until Talos can come out ! You guys think this has a chance of succeeding ? i'm a hesitating on the creatures, should i exchange the minotaur for another more efficient big creat ? i've included the hammer to deal with the priest's annoying conjurations ( temple of asyra, hand of BS)...

Spellbook Design and Construction / My necro : double scenario

During my battles with the necro, i kinda felt that my built was too focussed on swarm.

In fact: during my last battle against the Priest, this ended up very badly for me as the Priest was very strong against undead creatures.  As this was my only scenario in this book i couldn't do much anymore somewhere mid game..and i finally had to conceed..

this is why i rebuilt my Necro and i wanted to share it with you guys : i have put two ideas inside : if i fight against a mage that allows me to build up, i would install altar of skulls in my starting corner protected with walls and a cleric inside to trigger the altar -very nice against all those living things !  Outside the walls i would install my archers to protect my construction..

If i play an aggressive mage i would get out the archers and the deathfangs to stop his advance.  Afterwards i would start up the swarm and prepare a pit with all my zombies in it and then teleport the mage into the pit !

the force hammer is in there to cope with those annoying conjurations from Priest and Warlord...

would this build be multifunctional enough ?

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: On: Openings

i thought the next would fit nicely in the theme of "fast openings", although i'm asking for advice on spellbook building : i recently played against a warlock with a Priest.  My opponent played lots of mana in his opening rounds, 2  flower + 2 crystals, so he was able to put grizzly on the table, and a little later, Adramalech ! i managed to kill grizzly, but in the end he killed me with his warlock and quite some rings of fire + drain life's (which he was able to with all his mana).  But anyway : tomorrow i will be fighting my opponent again in the arena, and again against his Warlock, but i would like to fight him with the Orc Warlord this time, with this build :

the "aggro" strategy would be this :

round 1 : (19)
FA : move up and cast flower in starting corner (14)
QC : cast tower in NC (10)

round 2 : (20)
FA : cast grimson (5)
QC : rouse the beast on grimson (1)
FA grimson : move in tower and SHOOT (hopefully with 7 dice) !

i must admit i didn't invent this strategy, i encountered it a while ago, when playing on OCTGN...

my questions are :1) you guys think this would work against this "slow" warlock ? 2) would you start with shooting at the mage or at his mana , to disrupt his mana pool and prevent him from casting big creatures and/or expensive aggro spells ? 3) what would be a good thing to do after grimson is in place ? ( i was thinking of equipping elemental wand and casting hurl boulders at him )

i do know i'll have to finetune this so...i'm looking forward for your comments and advice !

my strategy was : open up with guardian angel as a blocker and afterwards get out the two horses. after that i beefed up both horses with all kinds of aggro enchantments, and i got the battleforge out to get my mage its equipment. My opponent got out 2 flower and 2 crystals to charge is mana supply, which allowed him to get out adramalech and a steelclaw grizzly (yes ! he paid the cost !) + he got quite some equipment on his Warlock..The only thing i managed to do is to kill his adramalech..but besides that i only saw a lot of fire : he just overwhelmed me with zone attacks from his firestorms and his drain life's...However, after that being said, i thought that maybe Samandriel could help me, if we would have the same matchup again...what you guys think ?

i will be attending a local game fair here in Belgium, Ghent, and i'm looking forward to play my first game ever, out of my regular playgroup. The fair is called "zomerspel" and here's their site www.zomerspel.be. I will bring along the promo stuff i received from Alicia Pope, back in 2013, to show to the Belgian public, how cool this game really is...So if your in Ghent next weekend at zomerspel, check out the demo tables of Mage Wars in the thematic hall Saturday at 2 p.m., i'll have an arena ready for you !

i got to win against "murphy" with his Warlord on OCTGN with this one last night, and i think it worked really well.

the first round i got gorgon out - i've been looking around a long time for something that could give me some time to let my necro build up, and gorgon really filled up that gap ! (thanks to the forums for that info !)

round 2 : deathring and crystal
round 3 : libro...
round 4 : zora...

after that i put ghoul rot on the warlord with my necro, and spawned crawlers with my book to feed the zora...

he was casting quite a lot of goblins and orcs but these never really got to my mage..only his ludwig really hurt me...

but then i got the poison cloud amidst his creats and his mage...poisoned again !..and every turn i poisoned the warlord again with my ability due to the weak token he got from the gorgon..sweet !

It was also the first time i got to use the meditation amulet : i must say it worked out fine with this build : the book spawned creatures, and i used my QC to cast the other stuff, while i refilled during FA with the amulet...nice !

the ghoul rot kept bleeding him, as wel as the attacks from my zora and gorgon...but he never healed, nor took some armor, and never dispelled my curses...so in the end i had to finish him of with a final fireball ! bye bye living thing ! the undead prevailed (and a serpent!)!

I guess the combo of undead creats and curses is really amazing...

here's the 3 first rounds i was thinking about :

round 1 FA : warlord to my NC ; QC hand of bim shalla
round 2 FA : cast bloodcrag minotaur (BM) ; QC rouse the beast on BM ; BM : move 1 to one zone away from opponent
round 3 FA : cast cheetah speed on BM ; QC : lion savagery on BM to beef up charge...

then activate hand on BM , and charge with BM at 4+2+2+1 dice !

next rounds : cast battleforge and equip warlord (defense + helm (battlefury ?)); further build up of Minotaur : critical strike, rhino hide etc...

i was also thinking of casting an enchantment transfusion on the minotaur, in case it gets killed, to transfer the enchantments to my own mage !

You guys think this could work ?

Rules Discussion / Warlord and ring of command

I tried looking this up on the forum but i didn't find anything...

my question is : if i equip the warlord with a ring of command, which discounts command spells by 1 mana , do i get to make his battle orders for free ?

PS :  His battle orders are considered to be quick spells, arent't they ? So he will have to spend one action for this ?

i just had a game of MW on OCTGN yesterday, and apparently my playgroup and i have been making some errors when playing some spells, related to range.

1) teleport : is it correct that you can not teleport further than 2 zones ? Except when you teleport another object from 2 zones away, to 2 zones further (so here 4 in total)
2) battleforge : is it correct to say that in order to get equipment on your mage from forge, you always have to be within 0-1 zones from forge ? We used to equip our mages all over the arena, with the forge in our starting corner of the arena...
3)lair : if the range 0-1 on forge is the range for it to cast equipment, is it also true for lair, that it can cast creatures in its own zone as well as one zone away ?

So the range on top of a spell is not only the range to cast the card itself - mage can cast "lair" one zone away - but it is also the range of the card itself to cast its own magic ?

Thx for helping, because this will rock the way we used to play mage wars !
