Strategy and Tactics / First step up from vanilla apprentice
« on: April 25, 2013, 01:42:13 PM »
Picked up the game yesterday and played three solo apprentice games of BM v PR. Great fun and plenty of emergent strategy. Swarm, big one, big few, beat up, etc. Got tired of vanilla mages so went to apprentice book, half map but full Mage abilities.

Oh wow. How on earth can the PR deal with the BM swarm in this set up? Is this a poor way to take a step up from apprentice?

All help appreciated.

Played another solo match and found the fairly simple solution. Brogan guarding.

Mages / Re: Druid Speculation

How about Druid gets Nature plus CHOICE of one element?

High channel / low health.

Buff plants. ARE there any actual 'plants'?

Possibly shape shift for extra melee dice but quickspells only whilst shapeshifted (no full turn spells). Ok that's bit wacko.

And regards the 'W', we could go

Woad vs Necromancer

or

Dwuid vs Necromancer (as per Elmer Fudd) in which case his familiar would be a Wabbit. Obviously.

Hello fellow UKians.
From Cambridge here.
I play and demo at my local gaming store.

Which local gaming store might that be? I'm around Herts. / Essex / Cambs. myself.

Whereabouts are the UK players? I just received the game and have tried a couple of apprentice solo matches. Great, but need live opponents, or Vassal.

Herts / Essex. / Cambs for me.

There is an excellent, detailed walk through of a full game on board game geek. By Tox from Crits Happen. I watched that and could pretty much play the game without reading the actual rule book!

If Skype doesn't work out, some techie savvy soul might put together MW modules for Vassal or Zun Tsu. These are both great ways to play boardgames on line.

A Vassal module for Mage Wars would be lovely. A Zun Tsu module would be just as nice. Zun Tsu tends to be a bit more glossy and might work well with the simple mechanics of MW. particularly given that there would be no need for an AI.
