The pool as it stands...

Dude! Thanks again for running this awesome tourny! If anyone wants their games recorded I'd be happy too if we can line up our schedules! Good luck in the second round guys!

Ahahaha! Unlucky you, the whole point of the league is to get to play more. Sorry bud.
Thanks for the mention! We'll try to bring as much coverage to it as we can :D

Sarcasm doesn't relay well over the internets.
But puns do. What kind of world do we live in?
Anyways, have fun all!
-
Mage Roars: Puddnhead vs. Arxiducs on Saturday, November 28th at 5:30pm (UTC -6). Maybe we'll get stream coverage?

This sounds like an epic match. I sadly can't be there to stream it :( but gl and hf!
-
I may need an extension for this round since I'm going to be out of town through Sunday. Tough to line up schedules on a non weekend day to play.
-
Well, here is the result from a match of round 2.
Anvil Throne Warlord (Schwenkgott) vs Druid (Adoryc)
It was a tough fight. I lost my Barracks very early, he lost an enchanted Grizzly in return. With attack spells bound on my Elemental Wand, i was able to kill his reinforcements (Kralathor, Gorgon Archer, some Plants), while i only lost some Goblins Grunts. My well protected Warlord was separated from his minions by thorn pushs but was not hurt too bad. While regenerating, I summoned more and more ranged minions.
In the end adoryc conceded because he neither was able to break my defense, nor would he survive the ongoing ranged attack storm much longer without suffering casualties every round.
I had some very good rolls sometimes and I don't know if the outcome would have been the same with adoryc attacking my creatures instead of my mage :)
-
Scratch the previous post, theasaris and I are playing tomorrow at 1830 UTC+1/1130 UTC-6

Arxiducs (Priestess) vs. Puddnhead (Straywood Beastmaster)
After 10 rounds of creature destruction the Beastmaster fell to the 3rd Hurl Boulder in a row.
Major points of interest:
1) Arxiducs churned out creatures via his Temple of Asyra and set a guard matrix around his Priestess all while gaining maximum health via a Sunfire Amulet.
2) Puddnhead summoned and fed cats to Kralathor the Devourer while making a slow and steady march toward the Priestess
3) Kralathor fell victim to a sleep spell (for 9 mana!) and was summarily awakened by an elusive Beastmaster.
4) Kralathor devoured every creature (except one that died to a bear) of Arxiducs' and had 6 growth markers by the end of the game.
5) Were it not for Arxiducs heavy (3 Boulders!) use of attack spells and a round of Marked for Death on the Beastmaster it could have been a very different fight.
Congratulations Arxiducs...I owe you a loss someday in the future ;)

Would have used my Johktari in the first game against Henry_Ketchup
That was a default win, because he could not play.
-
Ok, edited in.
@Dude
Which mage would you have played this round?
-
Wow, that was a quick game. Thx again Sharkbait!
Theasaris (Beastmaster) bt Sharkbait (Priestess)
Samandriel putting the pressure on the Beastmaster through Divine Intervention didn't save the Priestess from getting punched hard by a Dire Wolf, Emerald Tegu and Timberwolf quickly appearing from the Lair.
-
It's cool to see the "underpowered" warlords having a 4-0 streak. ;D

The match was really fun to play. Allow me to share a perspective of the same match.
I was impressed by the biggest Kralator I have ever seen. It came to the priestess who was defending herself with some guards by turn 4. When the gang (beastmaster + krakator + falcon pet) arrived the priestess` corner, I though I could contain that huge crawling mana investment by putting the beast to sleep and then guarding it. Unfortunately, a very timely mongoose agility made it easy for the beastmaster to hit his beast and awaken it. I immediately changed the strategy. Putting the beast to sleep was not going to work (would take too much time/mana) so decided to stick to the main strategy of my book and start a damage race. Cast marked for death on the beastmaster who was compelled to show up in my epicentre having had no time to invest in armour or defence.
The priestess, two asyrian clerics, one guardian and one grey angels hit the intruder mage with their swords and staffs for a total of 19 dice (attacks + marked for death). I thought that given the priestess´ advantage in number of creatures, that move would generate enough advantage to render kralator`s huge attacks close to negligible by gaining the tempo.
The beast kept eating one creature per turn (including the angels! I did not dare to watch...)
In the meantime, the beastmaster tried to regroup while being chased by the remaining holy creatures and hurl boulders in combination with pillars of light.
Despite some very bad rolls, the amount of dice was eventually enough to provide victory to the servant of Asyra who remained in the arena accompanied by a grizzly and "Macro-Kralathor"!
Thanks, Puddnhead for such a great time. I enjoyed very much the fact that both spellbooks were far from competitive meta. I am looking forward to play with you soon!
-
In retrospect, I think I should have "gotten out of dodge" instead of summoning my bear. Again, well-played, sir!
-
So where are we at? When are the next matches happening?
-
Tomorrow at 14h (2 PM) in the +1 timezone, moldrid and me will battle.
Something like 8 in the morning for americans I guess.
-
i broke my hand, so it would be good if coshade and me will play later

Absolutely! Feel better dude!

sure you can. ;)

since the servers are down we'll retry at 18h

It was a very short game. Only 7 rounds.
The warlord started running in and casting a battle forge after which he cast a minotaur. The priestess used a knight of westlock and 2 mana crystals in her opening.
The priestess' main strategy was summoning big guys ans buffing them up with bear strength. (2 knight and brogan)
The warlord tried pushing the priestess away from the knights and having some hard hits with his minotaur and his own mace. But Akiro was not in his favor and the rolls were very low.
The muscled-buffed knights and Brogan started dealing damage and even though the warlord had some decent armor, blood started flowing. The warlord realised he had to finish it very soon and trew rocks at the priestess in combination with a suicidal
rock storm. The priestess also had 26 damage, and afterwards the warlord would have initiative. But it could not help because brogan finished of his opponent with 6 damage, just killing the warlord.
Moldrid won!
-
I won't be able to type it better then hale here above so I will stick with his story :P

You can pick which 1 of the 3 gets erased instead of the warlord.

Hi everybody! I would like to suggest the organizer to provide a new deadline (a reasonable one, considering Mystery’s hand) to finish up with this round.
If a new schedule sends us all with this league to the Christmas season, I would suggest having a two-week break period of no tournament. Basically to accommodate those of us who will be on holidays without internet access during the season.
-
my hand will take 5 weeks, but luckily it is the left one. i can use the mouse, targeting and others will get though. but i thought, that if coshade and me are on skype it could work with manual rolls.
probably wont be able to play the next two days

It's really taking that long? Why? Is it because people aren't meeting the deadlines? 2 weeks per match seems pretty reasonable IMO. I was hoping to join in next time, but if the current league goes all the way through new years and into the next semester I might not be able to.
-
Sometimes, its very hard for two busy people to meet and its double that hard to do so before christmass. Escpecially, if their work is related to these holidays (marketing f.e.)
I will definetly join the next one too :)

bot players have related strats with dot, force crush and ghoul rot and enchaters warstones. coshade opens double crysatll, mystery decoy battleforge, an early galvitar of mystery lets coshade feel the need to force crush him. but mage bane and a vice verca ghoul rot gives coshade a bit more dot. in the end mystery wins with 25 dmg on him

Nice! I only today realized that Fatigue Forcemaster is more of a style of strategies for the forcemaster, rather than a particular specfiic deck. I think I'm renaming my original Fatigue Forcemaster to "Fatigue Forcemaster: Evasion". I recently came up with another Fatigue Forcemaster which I call "Fatigue Forcemaster: Pacifism". And I suppose Coshade's could be called "Fatigue Forcemaster: Tower Defense" or something. Not sure what yours would be called.

Well I look forward to seeing that one! Assuming it was recorded.

whatever a fatigue fm is ;)
it is the logical consequence to high armor tanks to go to dot, with poisened blood and deathlook, to make sure regrowth doesnt mitigate the healing. in the absence of critical strike and high piercing.

You know, a FM that just tires you out over time and beats you due to exhaustion ;)
I also ran one in my match against Drefan. He ran 5 dispels and 4 nullifies as a warlord, a complete surprise! The DoT did get him in the end but I have to say, any Warlord build I would have ran wouldn't have come close to beating that type of build.
So once again, kudos to Sailor for showing me such a cool idea for the forcemaster. I really think this type of book could reach the highest echelons of play.

So, when will we start Round 3?

I thought that was more of a Sorcerer thing, what with the teleporting and the portal magic?

so? we continue next year?

The Dude still hasn't been here in the mean time:

Do we have to continue "unofficially" without him? I'd really like to finish this league!
-
I think it's time we either decide to consider Mage Roars dead or someone pick up being the runner for it.
-
So the holidays are coming up and people aren't really going to be able to play until the new year. By then if he hasn't responded then SiKe and myself will pick up the mantel so the league can continue. If he gets back to us by then or comes back later then The Dude can pick up where we left off. We've already come half way through at this point, no turning back ;D
-
sounds good, yeah I thought we woudl be done by now :P
/molrid
-
so its a new year ;)
-
Alright everybody, so as Mystery pointed out, it is a new year. Sike and myself are going help finish off this league by setting up the pairings. If at any point TheDude returns and wants to pick this back up he (You, if you are reading this ;)) is more than welcome to it.
Here are the pairings for the next round:
- Puddnhead vs.Sharkbait
- Coshade vs. Drefan
- Mystery vs. Schwenkgott
- Arxiducs vs. Intangible
- Adoryc vs. Moldrid
- Theasaris vs. Halewijn
Thanks to SiKe for rollin' up the pairings.
The deadline for the matches will be Sunday, January 17th.
Have fun, Mage ON!
-
If you hadn't credited Sike with rolling up these matches I would have called Shennanigans. I am going to beat you Sharkbait.
-

I have no idea of how The Dude was doing the brackets. So I went with semi-controlled. Meaning that I made sure that there was not a re-match. I then used Random.org to pick a number between 1 and 12 . Popped that name off the list and another number between 1 and 11. And I worked the list down so on and so forth. I thought Shenanigans would be called on the Schwenkgott vs. Mystery match up :D ....but it was with the just roll of the dice from Random.org.
Remember there can only be one!

first was random and next round all those with wins against eachother and now would have been all with two wins against eachother.
which is fine in our case as schwenk and me are at two wins, at intangible and arxiducs, so your random was perfect in that sense ;)

Thanks a ton to sIKE and Intangible for stepping up and taking over this league.
Question. Are academy and domination cards now legal for this tournament? Sorry, after a great vacation I lost track of what is legal or not to wear for these mages...
Thanks again and best wishes to everyone in this new year in the Gregorian calendar. :D
-
Here are the pairings for the next round:
- Puddnhead vs.Sharkbait
- Coshade vs. Drefan
- Mystery vs. Schwenkgott
- Arxiducs vs. Intangible
- Adoryc vs. Moldrid
- Theasaris vs. Halewijn
With the list Mystery last posted, shouldn't those with an equal number of wins be playing each other? So we should have 3 pools:
Schwenkgott
Mystery
Intangible
Arxiducs
Puddnhead
Moldrid
Theasaris
Drefan
Coshade
Halewijn
Sharkbait
Adoryc
Therefore I should be playing Puddnheadm, Moldrid, or Drefan (already played against Coshade), right?
-
Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but the brackets are set, lets play ball.

as he by luck got the two pairings with 2wins anyway it doesnt matter. just that way the two winners of those face eachother and you defenitly get a person with 4:0 to be the winner
-
Yeah, I agree that the most important thing is to have a clear winner in the end. I'm fine with the draw.
-
Halewijn and I will play in about 1 hour!
-
Halewijn's Araxian Crown Warlock beat my Forcemaster with a ton of curses. My Grimson failed miserably to take out a Battle Forge quickly. A Thoughtspore managed to dispel some curses, but due to a wardstone in play it was very costly.

Round 3: Sharkbait vs Puddnhead
After a fun match of maneuvering and beatdown, Puddnhead's Priest defeated Sharkbait's Adramelech Warlock.
Shout outs to Sharkey for tolerating some dice disparity and Romeoxero for cheering the Priest on in the face of such brazen darkness.
Additionally, long lives the memory of Asyran Defender who bravely weathered brutal fiery assaults through the shield of his armorer and the shield of his faith and long lives the memory of Asyran Cleric whose staff rained blow after blow upon the heathen Warlock with righteous fury.
Honorable mention to Knight of Westlock and Guardian Angel for their assistance in the final confrontation.
Video evidence shall be provided on the ArcaneDuels website whenever Coshade feels like uploading the game.
-
Priest definitely needs a nerf! This cannot go on like this :o
-
To be fair, one main reason this worked is because there was no Deathlock to deal with (was waiting for it all game) and the aforementioned Asyran Defender was my avenger, had lion savagery AND succeeded at his defense I think 3 out of 4 times.
Also, Sharkey was trying something new. Had I faced his main Adramelech Warlock it probably would have been curtains for the Priest.

Hi all!
It was a great encounter! Very enjoyable to play and "the surprise" really rocks!!
For the tourney stats:
Intangible' Adramelech Warlock was very slowly stabbed to death by the small cute goblin horde of Arxiducs' Bloodwave Warlorld. :)
Thanks for the match, Intan!
-
That was a blast, thanks for the match Arx!
-
So... according to my count Round 3 is over?
-
now i have to play schwenkgott, I'll try to arrange a date with him latest till sunday :D and the winner will play you
-
Yeah, Once those two have done their match then we'll move on to the next round.
We'll obviously have the champs face off but we'll still do the bracket for the other players if they want to keep playing. Half the point of the league was to just play games with less familiar builds anyway, so why we want to deny someone privilege? ;D
-
we probably play tomorrow
-
Mysterys Priestressl beat my good ol' Plant Druid. Matchwinner was a evil Ring of Fire in my Plan Death zone. Never anticipated that spell with a priestress.

When in doubt.... Kill it with fire :P
-
Holy attack spells are crap, and fire are the best. The ring of fire i have in many priestess decks, but as i knew either to face a forcemaster or druid i took a second flameblast to the one standard i have.
Was a really cool game, honorable mention has to go to sunfire amulet and devine reward, i finished at like 52 life.

Moldrid (Arraxian Crown) vs Puddnhead (Necromancer)
The Warlock enter the arena with a crystal and a battleforge the necromancer opened with double crystal.
Round 2 saw some aggressive equipment and positioning by the warlock and another turn of economy for the necromancer, now up to 14 channeling.
By the end of round three, no shots had been fired, but the warlock and his dark pact slayer(reaper) gazed menacingly at the necromancer holding an elemental wand threateningly. The necromancer calmly summoned Mort and braced for impact.
Round 4 the warlock equipped a lash of hellfire but was enfeebled. The slayer dealt a blow to a mana crystal, but did not shatter it yet. The necromancer summoned a skeletal knight under the watchful guard of Mort.
During Round 5 the crystal was shattered and a Flaming Hellion joined the army of Hell. The Darkfenne responded with an eternal Deathfang and then Mort and his Knight charged the hellion dealing severe damage.
Round 6 the necromancer got pushed into the Fiery lash of the warlock but softened the blow with his previous bracing. The flaming hellion was felled, but was cursed to Rise Again.
Round 7 The Arraxian crown pressed on but collided with a Surging Wave and the resulting Daze barely saved the Darkfenne from fiery pain. The slayer fell to many blows from the growing undead tide and himself joined the bloodthirsty army.
Round 8 A guarding Zombified Flaming Hellion negated the Lash of Hellfire but was crushed in the grip of the twice strengthened Warlock. The necromancer pitilessly turned his legions on the lone warlock.
After several rounds of pummeling and having some of his very soul tainted by the darkness the agent of Arraxia conceded defeat. Puddnhead wins!
Thanks for the game Moldrid! It was a good time! I may not have gotten all of the details exactly correct. Please feel free to add anything you remember vividly.

a good description of the game puddin :)

Arxiducs (druid) and mystery (beastmaster) played an epic Battle in the Forest of Straywood. After unbelievable 24 rounds and both with only 10 cards left, the Druid was strangled to death by its own beloved vines ::)
To start with I had asked myself before how to outplay a Druid, which is in my point the better nature mage than the Beastmasters in a face off duel. So i went for more channeling.
After couple of rounds we had 3flower+tree and 2flower+harmonized lair and enchanters ring. Some early herassment of thunderrift flacons ended in a flower destroyed and not much else, but a grizzly and gralathor came to the table with a ring of fire the beastmaster destoryed a flower and a nightshade lotus, but the snapper had to be killed by a grizzly, but soon died to kralathor which grew and grew, a deathlock let the druid retreat. But the forcehammer elemental wand was destroyed before it could act, and so it took 2 acid balls a hurl boulder and 2 surging waves to kill it. In the meantime two new grizzlies entered the field through their lair. Slowly the BM then advanced and now the oposite roll thing, for 5rounds there was only one roll of the BM creatures rolling avg or above, so it got quite close and the BM had only 1 armor, 25dmg and poisoned blood.
But Kralathor (4growth) had died to two bear strength grizzly and falcon assitance. A bloodspine wall push dealt a bleed and another 5dmg, but eagleclaw boots prevented push and and a snatch, the creatures hacked on the armor 6 druid with circle of lightning. After upkeep 8dmg remained on her.
Next round the BM dispeled the PB with the equiped mage wand and bim shalla healed him one. Now with 3 armor he suffered no damage from jet stream and the druid equiped a mage wand. The animals killed the tree and got the druid to 22 dmg with a rot. In upkeep regenerating Bm removed the bleed and another jet stream dealt nothing, a stranglevine locking the druid was its end.
Thanks for the Roar league was fun to see new decks.

It was an epic match, Mystery. Thanks for the fun!
To be honest, I have never played such a long game of MW in my entire life.... Really a bit too much for me! :o One of the advantages of the roars league was that there were no turtle wizards with eternal metagame algorithms. But it appears nature mages can also play that!
I learned a lot during yesterday´s match. Not only from my own mistakes (I am definitely not a pro player and often get mixed up with the rules!). I have to say that the cunning trickery of Mystery was really fun to witness with many little combos here and there ( I think I did not miss any of them, as its victim!). Very timely reading of changing tactics and impecable execution by Mystery. Very impressive.
From my perspective, I felt the lack of mobility of my creatures as a big limitation against a mage that was building an army in the other corner. Spreading too much my creatures was an easy recipe for disaster so had to play to contain whatever was coming with as fewer creatures as possible. I never played a druid like that and was positively impressed by its performance. the power of regeneration is great.
Dice were really weird last night, so I will skip that part. I only know that they delayed us a lot from concluding the match one way or the other.
The crucial moment for me was when, after almost 4 hours of play, I decided to stop caring for the BM´s creatures and inflict damage only to the mage. I almost succeeded in taking him by surprise. It was a real pitty that all my high level attack spells were gone already. The turn after my druid was almost brought to death and what follows is the "platoon" scene with the razor wire.
One of my biggest take-aways from this match is that one should ask for a break and continue these lengthy matches some other day. This way real life has not impact in one´s decisions in the game. I really think that with two more hours of play the druid would have had a chance against the bears and the rest of the crew. I concur with Mystery that she is the best nature mage in Etherea right now.
In my view, a great ending to a great tourney. Thanks to all who organized at some point this league, it was much appreciated.
Definitely looking for more in the near future.
PS - I am looking forward to hear about the results of the other remaining matches (with videos?) and the final classification! (just for the fun of it)

I'm sorry, that is probably on my mistake, as I saw no chance to rush you, thought about cheetah speed and pet flacon rush, but would have been vulnerable to thornpush which i know you have, also expected you to have a grizzly so if I take out eagleclaw boots on turn 2 i manage to get no push, but have no mana get a grizzly and you do. so finally i came to the high channel beastmaster to try to outplay.

seeking dispel my decoy played in the 3rd round when i had like 5 enchantments was fun and i think you had prepared a thorn push on that early round when i did cast it probably.
The enchantment transfusion of ring of fire to the grizzyl when being attacked by kralathor was cool, probably keeping it on BM would have been better so i keep the 6 spellpoints barrier longer and can transfuse it to save it and than shift enchantment it back.
It was cool when you dispeled the first regrowth and enchanted me I already had prepared tranfusion and another regrowth (to do the same trick, in worst case one grizzly still had a hidden one i could shift) so triggered the nullify of it.
but i really liked your altar of the iron guard :D That Archer also rocked, and i simply had no attack spells packed except one acid ball to kill it :( with only 3 life left due to the guarding snapper.

really thank you all for the tourney idea. i feel thats why raptor vines from time to time shine as they are mobile.
which games are missing?

Short und brutal: My Skeletons just sliced and diced Drefan's Priest. His Vampiress+Divine Intervention killed my Forge fairly quickly, but 3 Sentries and 1 Skeletal Knight pummeled the Priest before he could do much... Was over in 11 rounds.
