Coshade, LordofWinter,

Thank you very much indeed guys.  I have just spent a most enjoyable hour or so watching your very entertaining - and informative - video while enjoying a pleasant cup of coffee.  Top stuff indeed gentlemen, and I appreciate your time and effort to share the game with us.

Just must get down to watching some more!  And playing more games!!!

Thanks again.

Chriz,

Nice to meet you this afternoon, and I'm sorry that I wasn't able to chat for longer - my "driver" was keen to be heading home - what is he like?!?

Great to see you leading new guys through apprentice games; it was certainly keeping you busy jumping from one board to another, and also dealing with the many and varied questions from the general public.  You were doing a top job.

So what I need to be doing now is "organising" my buddies in Huntingdon to get cracking with some ideas.  We're all enjoying the game - but we're not exactly getting it out to others, unlike your good self.  So, as I said, if there are any events that you're looking at in the future, if I can get along, I might well be up for it.  And hey - weren't you all impressed with my t-shirt??!!?

And I trust that you had an enjoyable weekend!

A very enjoyable read.  Thanks for taking the time to post it - that was some effort.

My group is still pretty much at the "learning" stage, but your cracking report might just be the catalyst to get us playing 4-player games.

Top stuff.

Guys, thanks for all the above - it is making sense to me.  And the comments are appreciated.

And, in the case which happened with me and my son, a charmed creature CANNOT attack ANYTHING in the zone if the mage that charmed the creature is on guard.  And is the only enemy that is on guard.  Yup, it's all making sense.

Oh aye - and just finished a couple of games with my buddy.  Cracking stuff!

Schwenkgott,

Wow, I had a very similar issue (but different!) when playing my son yesterday.  Oh aye, and he's 22 - and knows what he's doing, before anyone makes a comment about a "young son"!

But in response to your question, your Forcemaster is not allowed to attack the Priestess; as the knight is guarding in the zone, the Forcemaster MUST attack the knight, and as soon as the Forcemaster damages the knight, the Charm spell drops off.

My issue with my son was different.  He charmed my Dire Wolf (remember, who's bloodthirsty) and the Forcemaster was wounded - so what does my Dire Wolf do?  To make it worse - my son put his Forcemaster on guard!!!  We ended up with the Dire Wolf doing nothing - a seriously confused puppy!  (bit like us really).

But that was part of an epic 4 hour game yesterday, where I went through EVERY creature in my spellbook, and lost.  And in case any of you reckon we're just really slow, son and I had a game last Wednesday which lasted all of 28 minutes, start to finish.  I won that one!!!

But this game just gets better and better - there's a dozen of us at my local club who've gotten into it since January.  And 8 of us are gathering for an "all-dayer" in a fortnight's time in a mate's house.  Can hardly wait.

Thank you Zuberi.

I hadn't picked up on that at all, and it was doing my head in.

I should just stick to playing games!

Cheers

Good morning guys,

I'm obviously being very dense this morning.  Aylin, your post (2 back) had me going back to the Mage's stat card, and I just can't figure out what you're driving at.  I don't see it - could you possibly explain - I know I'm probably going to look really dopey - but I had a late night last night, and I've not finished breakfast yet, so please be gentle.

All of us over here in sunny Cambridgeshire are still very much newcomers to this awesome game - but we'll get there!

Thanks in advance.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Poor gorilla
« on: April 16, 2014, 05:52:40 PM »
Had a cracking game yesterday against one of my buddies.  It went on for a very long time, with lots of creatures being killed off.  And so I ended up bringing my gorilla out (1st time ever, but my bear was dead, along with a whole lot of other stuff).  Should have mentioned that I was using the Beastmaster, while Richard had the Necromancer out.

And what a guard the gorilla makes.  Richard had a "stop dead in his tracks" moment: really didn't want to knock the gorilla of guard thereby giving him a more powerful attack - but he had to get to my Mage.  Aye, it certainly opened my eyes so it did.  But we're all still in our Mage Wars infancy at our club, so it's great making all these discoveries.  I'll certainly think about using the gorilla more in the future.

Thanks for this reply ACG.  Makes getting a Sunfire Amulet out early even nicer - and it can also have the ongoing benefit on Mages that start with a higher life total (Warlock anyone - for 5 spell points?!?).

I know a couple of my buddies are going to be giving it "what the %*"! " when I start the Priestess' life total on the "second time round" on the grid.  But it does make sense - why should something that increases just randomly stop - unless of course, it was a rule!

These forums are just so helpful - thanks to all.

Sorry to revive a long dead thread, but I'm new to the game and was looking at "maximum life of a Mage" (that's what I asked the search engine, and it came up with this).

The reason that I'm asking, is life "capped" at box 41 on the Life / Damage grid? - it would appear not from the previous answer.  But if it's not capped at 41, does this mean that a "Sunfire Amulet" will keep letting you add life as long as the game goes on - so your Mage could end up on 50, 60, 70 or more life (okay, so that would be a long game, but you get my point?).

It now makes a Sunfire Amulate on a Priestess very attractive.

Thanks in anticipation.

What an excellent idea.

I'd certainly be up for purchasing some booster sets of that type.

Might be something AW wants to consider.

I've added a vote for the Straywood Beastmaster.  While I play all the Mages (still learning EVERYTHING) I have a fondness for the old Beastmaster.  Don't know why - I just do!

Enjoy the build when it comes.

Bah, SciCobalt beat me to it - but only because I've been away at a 3-day wargaming bash in Coventry over the weekend, and not that long home.

Yup, this cracking game has really taken off in the Huntingdon club.  From a couple of us starting the game in mid- Jan this year, we've been teaching ourselves and others to the point where one of the guys put in a joint order for 16 base sets which arrived last week.  Aye, that's right - sixteen, so I'd say that we're getting the boys hooked.  And we've got premisis available that we can hire on a weekend for an event.

So here's to the future.....

Good morning Darren,

You have done an excellent job of writing up last night's last round turn against Warren.  I've got to say I was aghast when a couple of lads in your "crowd" came over and grabbed me - and asked if I could make a ruling on the whole issue!  Hey, I might have been playing the game longer than just about anyone else at the club (bar good old Joe!) but it's still been only 2 months!

So I also eagerly await some replies from those battle-hardened mages who have a tad more experience than us in sunny Huntingdon!

Oh - and I'm leaving shortly for an ENTIRE weekend's gaming.

Cheers guys.

ShadOw,  thanks for that.

It hadn't entered my mind to get a small "bits box" to put all the counters in - I've got mine in poly bags, so the counters end up in heaps round the sides of the board.  Yes, get a box to keep them all in.  Genius!

And as for you SciCobalt - you know Joe reads these posts - stop stirring it or I'll tell everyone how your son (very young son) keeps battering you at the game.  Oops - I just did!

See you tonight.

Dave
