League / Tournament Play / Looking for a play group in Las Vegas
« on: December 06, 2016, 10:27:37 AM »
Just moved to Las Vegas from KC.  the scene in KC is strong.  Anyone know of some groups in Vegas?

Looking for players in the Missouri-Kansas region.  We have a growing play group that wants to have a larger tournament event sometime this summer.  Our organized play sessions are usually between 6-10 people in the Kansas City area.  The tournament would be in KC.  So far we have players from the KC Metro area, and Emporia, KS, interested.

This would not be a massive event, so it might be ideal for people in a short enough distance to make it a day trip.

If you are a player in the midwest in driving distance to KC, email me at malgor.debate@gmail.com

The tournament would be a Sat or Sun, either in June, or August.  It really depends on availability as we want to maximize numbers.

Rules Discussion / snatch and guard
« on: November 23, 2013, 11:37:09 PM »
If a creature with the guard token is snatched into Thornlasher's zone, does it get to make a counterstrike attack?  i assume the answer is yes because the "damage and effects" step triggers the snatch.  Thus, when the "counterstrike" step happens, the thornlasher is a legal target for a melee counterstrike.

Am i reading this correctly?

General question.  As I build some decks I find myself gravitating more and more toward mostly using the magic school my mage specializes in, only deviating to other schools with utility spells.

What percentage of your spells are in your mage's school/s of magic?  How many spells on average does one book need?

I feel like more is always better, and that every school has the cards you need to deploy just about any strategy.....but I'd like input from everyone else.

Strategy and Tactics / Counter Priestess Temple Build
« on: March 22, 2013, 01:01:39 AM »
What are some strategies people use against a priestess build that is slow rolling and all about building up temples?

I've had some success using this strategy a few times, but most of my friends are even more new to the game than me, so i'm not sure of it's potency.  What are some tips me and me mates can use to counter when one of us whips this temple strategy out?

I know that Deathlink is a great card against her.  What are some general strategies, cards, or builds that you all have used?

Spells / spells to add effect rolls
« on: March 20, 2013, 07:16:53 PM »
Are there any of these I'm missing or any in the works?  an enchantment that makes the melee attack lightning damage and adds the effect roll or makes it poison and adds the rot roll.  it would be nice to bind these to mages and creatures to juice them up.

Rules Discussion / Bashed
« on: March 15, 2013, 10:46:23 PM »
Hi, I was looking something up in the codex when i noticed the "Bashed" entry, pasted below:

Bashed
When a creature is Pushed into a wall with the Passage Blocked trait it is
Bashed. It receives an Unavoidable attack of 3 attack dice of damage. The
walls around the arena have the Passage Blocked trait.

I looked back at the "Walls" section of the rulebook, and bashed isn't mentioned at all.  Does the above codex entry mean that I can use force push in a border zone to bash a creature against a wall and roll 3 attack dice?  Are there any examples of how I can use the fact that walls around the arena have the "passage blocked" trait to initiate a bashed 3 dice attack on my enemy?

Alternative Play / 2 v 2 opinions
« on: March 15, 2013, 02:00:46 PM »
So, I've read that some recommend 2 full game boards for a 2 v 2 game.  This does not seem necessary to me, so I was wondering if anyone has played a 2 v 2 game on both the regular board and 2 boards put together.

My assumption is that you put 2 mages each in the same corners as usual (on the standard 4x3 board) and have them go at it.  How necessary is the 2 board combo?  I don't want to buy 2 sets and one of my favorite parts of the game is I don't have to ask friends to start collecting the game sets for them to enjoy the full range of spells.

What are the drawbacks of using the standard board for a 2 v 2 game?
