Title: Couple of Academy Warlord questions
Post by: Arkdeniz on September 15, 2017, 08:52:15 PM
Now I've got this set I see lots of potential in it. A couple of questions, though, if I may:

1) Is there a range to the Straywood Scout's special power to mark an enemy creature for death? Is it unlimited (as is, for instance, the Gate to Voltari)? Or is it the 0-1 of his shortbow?

2) The Harshforge Knight can clearly not have a formation attached to him, but does he still benefit from a revealed formation's power?

Looking forward to trying these new cards out.

1. Unlimited range but you do need to be able to target them, meaning you need line of sight.

2. This is exactly why he's not IMMUNE to enchantments/incantations. Immunity does prevent you from being affected, which would stop him from benefiting from formations and zone enchants. But he's NOT immune. He very specifically can't be the target of an enchantment/incantation, and that is the only thing prevented. Targeting. If you read over all of the formations, they have also very carefully been worded so that they don't need to target anything (other than what they were initially cast on). So, short answer is that he can definitely benefit from formations (attached to other creatures).

Excellent. That's what I thought. Thanks for the answer!

So what happens when Harshforge Knight walks into a zone with an enemy's face down trap enchantment? Doesn't the trap enchantment target Harshforge Knight with its attack? Or is the intent that Harshforge Knight just can't have enchantments attached to him but the wording didn't exist to express this? I have to imagine he wasn't meant to work as a "minesweepeer" in arena.

@Bitva - An enchantment such as a teleport trap or Hellfire Trap would still resolve normally against a Harshforge Knight.

Relevant text of Teleport Trap and Hellfire Trap:

"When an enemy creatures enters the zone, you must reveal Teleport Trap. That creatures is immediately teleported to a zone of your choice, up to 2 zones away."

"When an enemy creature enters the zone, you must reveal Hellfire Trap. Hellfire Trap immediately attacks that creature."

In neither case do the traps target the creature. Other traps have similar wording and work the same.

Thanks for the clarification guys! The wording itself doesn't say target, so that's that!

The actual target of those enchantments is "Zone" (at the top of the card) which is used when first casting the spell. There is no target when revealing the enchantments... just an effect that happens to whichever enemy creature enters the zone next.
