Forcemaster build advice
« on: December 11, 2014, 10:39:24 AM »
Looking for some feedback on this build. As is typical with the FM, the goal is to get to the opposing mage quickly and use the battle forge to drop equipment on the way. Any thoughts or improvements on it? Better strategies?

Thanks!

Hey there,
It looks like an interesting build. Before I give any sort of advice I'd like to hear what your first 3 turns are. What are you planning on attaching to the Thoughtspores?

I've played a couple games with it so far, and my first turn is usually to QC cheetah speed and then move two spaces and drop the battle forge. With turn two, I use the forge to get out galvitar and move two again and either drop mongoose agility or pull the enemy Mage into engagement. The creatures are more for flexibility, and if I do bring them out tend to attach Force Push or some other spell to manipulate the battlefield.
I like the Forcemaster quite a bit, but I think I tend to play her too cautiously. I need to. To worry so much about getting hit myself and rely on her abilities to avoid attacks to keep her up.
Also, I only have the base set and FMvsWL (and the dice tower backer promos), so I'm a bit limited in my options. For now, I really only play casually, but I'm looking to improve my game. :)

Mostly because I built the book before I had a copy of Acid Ball. I think I'm also only just realizing how great corrode is.

I think that you should remove both mana crystals because as the forcemaster you are trying too put high pressure on your opponent as early as possible then you would just waste actions by increasing your channeling. Same thing for obelisk I feel like that it is a bad way of spending your actions when you instead could be running too the enemy mage.

You should listen to episode 17 of the Mage Wars Monday Pod Cast, by Let's level up.

Already downloaded it. Haven't had time to listen yet, but I'll do so soon!

Galvatar is so strong (and such an investment) that you really don't want to use a full round action to do anything besides attack. I'd take out hail of stones and destroy magic. Use purge magic and be careful about testing for nullifies.

Bear strength is a must for such an aggressive play style, is very efficient mana for damage.

You need more dissolve (or acid ball) you want your opponent at 0 armor all the time.

Force wave can be used as a quick cast AOE by bashing things into a wall or through a wall of thorns although I never really end up being that. If the opponent swarms then race them down. Forcemaster can kill someone in three turns of melee if they are not defending themselves well.

Include and Burk boulder and/or jinx for a finisher.

I got Forged in Fire for Christmas, so I've made a couple tweaks. Took out the Thoughtspores, reduced to one invisible fist, got rid of the teleport trap. Added 2 lion savagery, and swapped out the storm drake for dragonscale hauberk. A few tweaks in quantities of various cards.
Tried going toe to toe with the Adramelech Warlock, and was probably too aggressive once I got set on fire. Got myself burned up pretty bad. I really want to pick up Druid vs. Necromancer and get some Acid Balls in my book.
I may try again soon, though I just recently got accepted as a playtester, so I'm eager to try out some of the current round of tests.

Ah sounds likes you got some good things going for ya. Acid Balls are definitely nice to have in a deck.
Anyway welcome to playtesting! If you ever OCTGN maybe we could do some stuff sometime :D
