Title: Poll: Cheetah Speed vs Mongoose Agility
Post by: Skra on November 20, 2015, 02:07:48 AM
For the sake of argument, please pretend that you are satisfied with the rest of your Spellbook and that you are certain that what your Spellbook needs most is either a [mwcard=MW1E05]Cheetah Speed[/mwcard] or a [mwcard=MW1E28]Mongoose Agility[/mwcard]. Also, for the sake of argument, please pretend that you only have enough spell points for one of the two, not both.

Yes, we all know that it depends on the Mage and the Spellbook, but for the sake of argument let's pretend it doesn't. Generally speaking, which of these two cards is better? If you had to choose between these two cards, which of the two would you pick and why?

Mongoose Agility gives you a far superior maneuverability than Cheetah Speed.  Yes, sometimes it's nice to be able to move 2 and quick cast (or attack) something, but I find that Cheetah Speed on it's own is pretty much used once to gap close and then it might as well not be on your mage for all the good it does you.

Mongoose Agility lets you get your attack in OR run away regardless of how many creatures are in your way.  And not being able to do that action is a fair price to pay for getting to safety...and you save mana in the process.

Mongoose Agility for sure. I would like Cheetah Speed a bit more if it allowed Slow creatures to move two unhindered spaces and still get the quick action instead of just giving it normal movement. But Mongoose Agility is more all around practical in most situations. I like to use Cheetah Speed as more of an end game if the Mage is trying to run away and I can close distance for a final Hurl Meteor/Boulder.

The way the question is set up favors Mongoose Agility strongly. Mongoose Agility is a good defensive/offensive/utility card that can help avoid blockers, dodge hindering, and generally make your life easier in combos.

Cheetah Speed does pretty much one thing: Chase down enemies. Without elusive, It's not that great for running from a fight, but if things run from you it can really help close the gap.

But since the question doesn't tell us what the spellbook needs, Mongoose Agility is more likely to give it to us. It's a bit unusual that a book designer wouldn't be able to decide between the two, while being certain that one was required, but that's just one of the limits of hypotheticals.

I like cats so I choose Cheetah Speed.

In a vacuum like we're trying to simulate here, I find more use out of Mongoose Agility. Generally speaking, it's more useful throughout the entire match (assuming it isn't dispelled.) However, the specifics of a book can definitely give Cheetah Speed the edge depending on how you want to play your mage.

I have always like the positioning capabilities of Cheetah Speed.

The druid takes all the fun out of that :p

I'm going with mongoose for this one.  I think the ability to ignore guards is more useful than moving two.

not for nothing but the druid takes the fun out of mongoose agility too. nothing ignores those markers but flying.

The vines (once there are enough of them out) really make Cheater Speed less valuable than Mongoose Agility. You can still avoid guards, etc. with the latter... but normally won't get much use out of CS on a non-flyer. If you have the LoF, or Tarok, or Eagle Wings on a bear, etc., then perhaps CS is just as good against a Druid.

All this having been said... in an absolute vacuum, I'd probably take Mongoose Agility.

Love this, even if it was unintentional.

Not unintentional... it's what we call it in our games.

I like cheetah speed because of its combo with Lions Savagery
