ADMW Open 2
Standards
- The tournament will be played in two stages. The first stage will be a round robin. There will be 20 (changed from 16) total players separated into 4 groups. The top two players in each group will advance to the second stage. Each week you will be assigned a new matchup in your bracket. You will have two weeks to complete each matchup. Extensions will only be granted on a case by case basis. The tournament will begin April 15th, 2018. Once all games have been played we will advance to the next stage.
- A tie break looks at the match record between tied participants. For example, if Katherine and Dave are tied based on statistics but Katherine won when they played during the tournament, Katherine wins the tie break. When more than 2 participants are tied, they're ranked by the number of wins each one had against the others.
The second stage will be a double elimination tournament. The date to begin will be determined after the first stage is completed. - Winners bracket finalist has to be defeated twice by the losers bracket finaliast in the Grand Finals.
All cards from Academy Forcemaster and Warlord and all sets prior are legal to use. All promotional cards available on OCTGN are also legal. - Players will build a spellbook with the standard amount of spellbook points and restrictions.
Any promotional cards that have been officially released in a set will be considered to read as the official released in a set version
Restrictions And/Or Clarifications
- Disciple of Radiance Text Change
Once per round, whenever your Mage casts or reveals a healing spell, Disciple of Radiance may deal 1 direct light damage to a target creature in her zone - Casting a Spell - Change to the end of the Pay Costs Step
Previous wording - If you cannot pay all of the costs, the spell is cancelled and discarded, and you have lost the action.
New wording -If you cannot pay all of the costs, the spell is cancelled and obliterated, and you have lost the action.
Everything else remains unchanged about the step - Steep Hill
Steep hill will block Line of Sight if you cast a spell and it goes through two diagonal sections of the zone. - Force Pull
Once per round, the Forcemaster may cast this quick Force spell. Target creature is Pushed 1 zone towards the source of this spell. Will not Push a creature through a wall with the Passage Attacks trait. - Trample
- If a Flying creature attacks a non-Flying object, it loses Flying until the end of the attack.
- Elusive Creatures can ignore guards when making a Trample Attack
- Defenses that do not work against Melee attacks cannot be used during the Avoid Attack step, however all other types may be (choosing one during the step following normal rules).
Rules
If a player gets disconnected and dropped during a tournament match it will be considered a loss for that player
A judge makes the final call on a rule. Any argumentative discussion that takes an excessive amount of time will receive a warning then if it continues that player will be disqualified.
The Upkeep and Planning phases will be timed. You are allowed 5 minutes (300 seconds) at the start of the planning phase using the in game timer. Judges will regulate the timer - If there is no judge you can agree to not time the match
During both the first and last quick cast and the main action phase - Players will be limited to 1 minute to decide each action. Executing an action will not be timed. Judges will regulate the timer - If there is no judge you can agree to not time the match.
Only games from the second stage are required for judges. You and your opponent may both agree to play a game without a judge. If one player wishes to have a judge then the game must be put on hold until a time can be arranged for all parties involved. After the game both players must submit the results.
If you receive a Bye it will be considered a win. In that case you must choose a mage to be marked as a played mage.

Competitors will be randomized at the beginning of the tournament to determine which group they are in. You will not know who your opponent will be until the tournament officially begins!

Only if you choose to provide your email address as your contact information when signing up, will it become public. You probably would use your forum name instead.

Too bad the start date is so far out in the future.
I plan to be far away from computers in April and until July.

So far the previous champion of each ADMW has not returned to claim the title once again. A shame really as Mystery and Jack are two of the best Mage Wars players in the world.
-
Jacksmack that saddens me you cannot make it! You will always be on the champions list and hopefully you can become a two time champ next ADMW 8)
Anyone contemplating joining, this is a good chance to seize the title!
-
No thanks... I never use promos. I haven't ever played online anyway.

Am really bad at computers man and let me tell you its not too bad, and u dont have to use promos, I dont either, only use cards that I have in real life to build with because I play everything in RL that I do on OCTGN.
Its real easy to use man, promise!

Btw, final exam week doesn't end until the end of April. So there will be a couple of weeks in the beginning of the tourney in which I might or might not have time to compete. Is that okay?

Just wanted to say that Force Pull wording has been updated.
-
So that means that minds eye is the scource it would move closer to not the mage then right?
-
The opposite in fact. It's saying that regardless of most positions the pull would always go toword the forcemaster not the eye. Which i agree with.
I'm not so sure i agree with the other half of it though. Pull can go in any direction if the eye and forcemaster are in the same zone. Not sure why they are doing that.

Actually it won't allow the pull to go in any direction. It was changed from the original that allowed that.
-

This is correct. For ADMW purposes, force pull always pulls toward the source. Mind's eye says that it becomes the source when used.
There is enough ambiguity in the rules as written that we thought we'd clarify. After further research, discussion and deliberation we chose the above interpretation.
-
Wait, the above all confused, what I thought was clear... lol
So Force Pull will go towards the Minds Eye or not?
RAW I think it's 100% clear that it does, I wasn't aware anyone contested this (whether it should is utterly different). But what's the rule for ADMW?

The confusion is the text on Force Pull. It officially says "pulled towards HER", which could be interpreted that no matter the source, the pull is toward the forcemaster. That is not Rules as Intended, I believe so we have changed the text to say "pulled towards THE SOURCE" instead of "HER". No big change to how everyone was playing it, just making sure all of the rules lined up for how it was (correctly, imo) being played already.

That's as I understood in general, and your original post. I kinda got the feeling people were saying otherwise as the thread progressed, but I much just have misunderstood!

Gotcha. I don't see 'Her' having any greater weight than 'you' or 'the caster' but fair enough, someone must have wondered, and more clarification is always good!
Thanks both!

Yeah to further the issue in the Forcemaster rulebook it says Forcemaster specifically instead of using a pronoun.

Hey guys!
Just wanted to give an update to everyone. We have a full 16 people! If you still want to enter please do. If we have any dropouts we can definitely get you on a waiting list to fill in that slot. Also if we end up getting 4 more people we may add them to the tournament.
Thanks!

4 more would be great as I personally prefer groups of 5 or 6 as opposed to more.
It's better in my opinion since three games is a relatively low number and if you get counterdecked twice, you just don't advance.
More games mean less chance of randomly bad matchups or a single awfully played game to impact your position.
-
Im so looking forward to this!
I do hope most of these matches will be made available on video :P
Thx a lot for doing all the hard work guys.
-
I agree I have been looking forward to this since I found I miss d last one thanks guys for lining this up and for all the leg work and side things you do so can play this game.
-
thinking about signing up. However, it is full. Are there others that signed up to get the extra group of 4?

you should definitely sign up, we do have a waiting list that I think has 3 on it right now. I'd have to double check later
-
We're only allowed to use each mage once, right?

Yes, except you can use one mage twice.

To early for some tourney hype?
Revealing the current starting field?
Pre tourney interviews?

To early for some tourney hype?
Revealing the current starting field?
Pre tourney interviews?
Those are some pretty good ideas Biblo, especially the second one.
-
Q(uality-driven non-existent interviewer):
Sir Jason Crage! Please wait a second. Can you send your fans and concubines away so that we could talk about the upcoming tournament? Expectations for your performance are very high.
A(wesome master of death and destruction):
Well met, Quality-driven non-existent interviewer. Yes, I think I can spare a minute. Join me in my burning cursed carriage. Off now, boys and girls. Speak to my servants if you want to join me later. Please, Sir. Do come in.
Q:
This is more comfortable than it looks from the outside. Is that a real eye hanging from the ceiling?
A:
Nice to see you're paying attention. Took that one from a forcemaster. They do so love to hand out eyes, I thought I'd bring one with me. (laughs menacingly) I also wanted to make a curtain from her attire, but they never seem to bring any clothes worth mentioning.
Q:
Speaking of forcemasters, people expect you to masterfully force your way through this tournament. Since, technically, the groups have not been assigned yet, and this interview is as uselesse as it is premature, let us just pretend that these are the final groups. What do you think of the opponents that have been been assigned to you?
A:
I think they are a gift from the dark gods. I enjoy playing against Shark and think it is going to be a groundbreaking battle of endurance, power and cunning. He has unparalleled knowledge of the deeper workings of our world. I hear he even has the power to make creatures with counterstrike count their Bonus dice three times for every attack.
Q:
What do you think of Drefan?
A:
The man is a gardener, not a warrior. Could you hand me the bottle to your left?
Q:
Is that the blood of your enemies?
A:
I'm not a savage. This is wine. Blood needs to be drunk fresh, unless you want it to lose all flavor.
Q:
Pardon my inexperience with the consummation of blood. From red liquids to red dice, do you have any thoughts on your third opponent?
A:
Diaries? Yes, I really hope he plays his God-Paladin. I haven't seen him on any other mages yet and there just might be a chance he actually knows how to play those. (chuckles) Ah, we're there. Please watch your step on the way to the door. The floor actually IS lava in some spots. Careful with the doorknob. It does love the taste of fingertips.
They walk through torchlit corridors into a room with a long table. Demons scurry around and a great hearth sends shadows dancing through the room.
A:
Please, do take a seat. No need to be so suspicious about the meat. It's beef. I fought zzzPAXzzz yesterday and there's been leftovers.
Q:
Can you tell me anything about your preparations for the tournament? Mmh, it has a good taste. But I do have to say it is a bit tough.
A:
Yes, -2. Don't let it charge at you. My preparations mostly come down to a lot of fighting. I'm trying to get a feel for how low my rolls can theoretically get. There's a point where you just assume all your rolls to deal a third of your dice amount in damage and you start playing around that. Playing around "luck" is simple, actually: If your opponents always roll maximum, don't let them roll.
Q:
You truly demonstrate a masterful style, gripping full control of the field and never letting go. Who do you think you'll face in the finals?
A:
I think Keejchen and Juli are very strong. Romeoxero might have a chance, but he's in a group with Keej and Farkas. Juli has it easy, with only Bright Seargeant Yellow Sailor Henry Vulcan Spork, The Champion Of Justice And Reason and two no-names in his group. As long as the judges defend him against getting dragged into an hour-long stubborn discussion, he should win that. As for the fourth group, out of those four, I only know Grimmbart. I really do wonder how the other three will divide places 1 to 3 among themselves.
Q:
Thank you for having me, Sir. That's it for my questions. I wish you good fortune in the battles to come.
A:
Cleganebowl, get hype!

That was hilarious.10/10. Or at least most of it was.
Also, do I really have a tendency to get that distracted talking during matches? I didn't think I did that so frequently.
Or are you referencing that ONE casual game we played where there was a bit of confusion about whether RAW was matching RAI, and how to handle that confusion, and we went on the forums later and it turned out you were right and I was wrong, and that was the end of it? Which by the way I'm pretty sure happened just one time months ago at least.
While I do have moments where I am or come across as argumentative, I'm pretty sure I don't have a tendency to stall tournament matches by arguing about rules, as you seem to imply.
-
i am sure it was a joke. a fun caricature. same as me puttung out rules for a thread and intentionly breaking them, because as we all know, rules dont apply to me only everyone else.
-

Not usually during matches, no.

Really enjoying these! Will update standings next week when i get back from a work trip
-
What do you mean by "update standings"? I thought the tourney wasn't starting until april? Did I miss something?
-
revealing the starting field is my guess. ;D
Back to the point..
I have a question to the Gardener:
How does your plants respond to that loud death music your playing?
-

Just adding in some people that are on the wait list.
Also if anyone is still thinking about signing up, send us an email!

I have a question to the Gardener:

When I was playing Mozart they would turn out weak, but ever since I switched to death metal I've seen a higher amount of crit die than I did before, so overall it's been a good change.
-
Silverclaw was interested in joining, but seemed to have lost interest when I told him he'd missed the deadline. Someone should try to convince him to join the waitlist. I recall that he had said somewhere originally that he would compete this time, I think. Don't remember where.

When I have dice that behave badly they go in timeout, and I roll different dice. Not sure how I do that on OCTGN. But the music could help. That said I look forward to playing as well as watching other matches in the tournament.
-
I'm trying to get OCTGN up and running tonight so I may indeed join the wait list.
-
Hell yes griz! Come join the global meta!
-
*global meta*... I strongly suspect that silverclaw's *local* playgroup is even bigger and/or more active than the OCTGN one. The OCTGN mage wars community may be more distributed geographically but that doesn't necessarily make it bigger.
I would guesstimate that he has maybe around at least a 1/10 chance of winning the tournament if he gets in. Considering how many great players we have on OCTGN, these might be the best relative odds any one player could get. Seriously, those North Carolina players are tough.
Sometimes it feels like a LOT of the best mage wars players are either from Germany or North Carolina, haha.

Littlenog aka Grizzlytechsupport came over and we got the thing to do the thing. I'm making decks now. I have much less faith in my ability to win an online tournament were I in it but I would hope I'd at least give my opponents fun competitive matches.
-
Sweet, I can beat you in two tournaments now.
-
The "all you can eat buffet" tournament hasn't occurred yet sir. Note I'm only on the wait list. I am however now on OCTGN now.

Well correction: Coshade tells me I'm in the tournament. I'm looking forward to some great matches.
Biblofilter!!!!!! I'm coming for you!!!!!
-
Hey guys,
Unfortunately, I am very busy work-wise at the moment and therefore have to withdraw my participation.
I will closely follow the matches on YouTube though and wish all competitors fun and triumph!
I'm looking forward to see some new exciting books to take full effect and I hope that this tourney will boost the community like it did in the past!
All the best, Parkdeck

Hey everybody!
This tournament is less then a month away! I hope you have all been training your mage roster for all trickery, strength and cunning! Currently we have 19 sign-ups and we will be increasing the number in each group to 5. This means that at maximum you will need 9 mages (8 if you use 2) if you play in the most games possible for the entirety of the tournamnet.
Also as a reminder the current group stage will be randomized at the start of the tournament. This means you will not know which group you are in until we begin!
I've been seeing a lot of training on OCTGN and I am impressed with a lot of the strategies that players are bringing forward. I'll post the next update, and email all the participants when we are a week out from the tournament. Keep in mind our sign ups are still open, so if you know a friend that would be interested have them shoot us a sign-up email at Arcaneduels@gmail.com
Good Luck!
-
I've just sent you an email. Thanks juli for telling me about the turney ^^
-
Ready to find out who I got first.
-
I've just sent you an email. Thanks juli for telling me about the turney ^^
You are in sir! I'll email you details once we get closer to the event :)
-
so the brackets are officially released......Yeah!
Coshade you may want to make sure everyone has either been notified or you have their right email. I played Werekingdom tonight and he had no idea he was in the tourney.
Super pumped to get some games in!
-
I've already talked to my first opponent. We're looking to fight Sunday at 6pm EST.
-
Hey Everyone!
I wanted to start by welcoming everyone to the ADMW 2. The first stage will be officially starting this Sunday the 15th. Each of you have been randomly assigned to 4 groups of 5 competitors. I am going to post the suggested matches on the ADMW 2 forum page on the Mage Wars Forums. If you do not see your name then that means you are not assigned anyone for that week. As a reminder we will be assigning suggested matches once a week, and you will have two weeks to have a match against that person. If there are scheduling issues please email us and hopefully you can have a match with someone else in that time frame to stay on track.
I will post contact information from your sign up emails on the forum site, so if you do not know your opponent you can get a hold of them. Also if you have never been on the Mage Wars Discord, most octgn players are currently using the channel I posted below. If you've never used Discord, it's a free open chat that is very useful for the community. I would suggest trying it out!
As you get a match please email us your schedule. We'd love to record your matches! Also if you do not know your opponent you may want to find a scheduled time for a judge to participate as well.
Keep in mind you can play any of your matches before you assigned them!
In the first phase you do not need a judge. That means you do not have to have a timed game. In the past we have only started to keep track of time when it is excessively going over.
After a match please send us an email with the results and mages used from both sides. We will be tracking the mages used from each competitor on the forum site for reference.

How does a conversation on Discord sound?
-
The lights flash as the gathered press clamor around to hear the fighter from Charlotte speak.
Silverclawgrizzly: Thank you everyone for coming tonight. I know you all want to hear my thoughts on the the upcoming ADMW event. Unfortunately I'm not a man of much words. So I've hired one of the worlds great talkers for me. I'm going to direct all questions to my spokesman Mr. T.
Reporter: Mr. T Silverclawgrizzly is scheduled to fight Sailor Vulcan first. How does he prepare for this challenge?
Mr. T: He doesn't prepare for the challenge because Vulcan's no challenge. But Grizzly is happy to whoop up on him some.
Reporter: Does Silverclawgrizzly hate Sailor Vulcan then?
Mr. T: No he don't hate him. But he pity the fool.
Reporter: Mr. T you're a famous warrior yourself. What's your honest prediction for this match?
Mr. T: Pain!
Reporter: Do you feel that given the current blah blah blah
Mr. T: Shut up fool! I aint got time for this jibba jabba!
Silverclawgrizzly: Thank you folks. I'm looking forward to a fun competitive tournament.
-
Just wanted to make a quick announcement that Excalibur has dropped from the tournament. Also I would like to welcome Pole287 as his replacement!
Good luck Pole!
-
I'm pretty inexperienced but very excited to be taking part in this tournament!
Would anyone have some time tomorrow (friday) night to play a game? I've played on OCTGN probably 5-6 times in the past but would love a refresher so I'm not the absolute slowest while playing in the tournament.
-
Welcome MasterSlothBear! This tournament is excellent for all experience levels! I sincerely look forward to our upcoming match!
-
Hey guys, we generated some pre-tourney content. It's a bit lacking in terms of voice quality and additionally all three participants are non-native English speakers but since the majority of participants in this tournament are not speaking German, we really had not much of a choice :p

I enjoyed the video, but it seemed to have ended suddenly
-
Thank you. And yes, it was not supposed to end there. I don't have a clue why it does.. I really need a new pc, soon! ^^
-
Can you still post the rest? I am interrested haha
-
Just wanted to say I saw some great games for the first weekend! I should be releasing videos today or tomorrow. You can find them on the front of this thread!
-
Can you still post the rest? I am interrested haha
It's gone. I don't have a clue why.
I'll work hard that the next recording is complete and in a better quality.
If people don't mind live-commentary I'd like to know in advance when a game happens, that way I might be online to generate some more content.

Enti and I (Werekingdom) are planning on having our game on the 19th at 17:00 CET.
It would be nice to have a commentator if possible.
I will try to record the game, but it would be nice if someone else also record it.

Just want to point out after Round 1 Straywood Beast Masters are undefeated! The superior mage!
-
Lol I love all the nature mages, I didn't think about not being defeated though it's kinda funny
-
I think it's a smart choice. Flexibility is a huge asset this early.
-
Hey everyone,
DevilsVendetta (DevilSoprano) and I (Werekingdom) are planning to play our game on the 27th at 16:00 pst
If we can have a commentator for our game that would be great.
If not, I'm planning to record our game as well.
Werekingdom
-
It might be an hour to soon for me, but I will do my best to try and make it. Either way if you record it we can commentate later!

We can probably push back an hour if its okay with Were.

I'm running into somewhat of a problem:
My situation is that I was going to move into a new flat, together with a friend.
The "previous" occupant theoretically doesn't have a contract any more and we're supposed to move in next week. He refuses to leave tho.
That said, with the uncertain situation at hand, I haven't made any internet contracts yet, because I wanted to avoid paying when I can't even move in yet.
All that meaning: I might not have Internet at home for the next three of four weeks.
(it's a win-lose situation. I either get lucky and move in, but bad luck no internet, or get unlucky, have to stay at my parents', but get to keep using their internet)
At everyone in my group: I got the next eight to nine hours to play, as well as tomorrow evening and Tuesday all day. Would be nice if I could minimize the risk of missing any games by playing any time during that.
TL:DR
I don't know if I can play during the next month. I really don't want to drop out though. Can probably play this week, certainly during today and the following two days (except work hours tomorrow. European, 7 to 4 job)
-
Once more the lights flash as the Charlotte Mage Warrior approaches to speak.
Silverclawgrizzly: Thank you all for coming out. Again I've got some things to say and I'm at a lost for words. So again I've hired another great speaker. Ladies and gentlemen please direct all questions to the Macho Man Randy Savage!
Reporter: Macho Man what can you tell us about Silverclawgrizzly?
Macho Man Randy Savage: OOOOOOHHHH YEAH!!!! He's the tower of power too sweet to be sour and he's funky like a monkey!
Reporter: Are you confident in Grizzlies chances in the tournament?
Macho Man Randy Savage: He's too hot to handle and too cold to hold! He's the living legend that legends try to live up to!!!
Reporter: His plan for the rest of the tournament?
Macho Man Randy Savage: He's got not plan cause he's the human torpedo and vengeance is his!
Reporter: What does that mean?
Macho Man Randy Savage: Nothing means nothing! Cause he's the cream of the top and he rises to the top! SNAP INTO IT!
Silverclawgrizzly: Thanks for coming out guys. Looking forward to my next matches.

Hey guys,
Pole287 and I (Werekingdom) are planning to have our game on the 5th at 10:00am PST.
If anyone is free to be a commentator tomorrow then that would be great.
-
We need some statistics.
Which mages were used so far?
How often did they win/lose?
Some prio/post game interviews would be cool as well. (Talking with the same player before the match and afterwards..)
-

Some prio/post game interviews would be cool as well. (Talking with the same player before the match and afterwards..)
I have so far played:
Adramelech Warlock vs Ent's Straywood Forest Beastmaster (I lose)
Straywood Forest Beastmaster vs DevilsVendetta's Malakia Priest (I lose)
Wychwood Druid vs Pole287's Johktari Beastmaster (I won)
-
I'll keep a running tally of my matches too. I have played:
Priestess vs Sailor Vulcan's Araxian Warlock and won.
Anvil Throne Warlord vs VictorE's Priestess and won.
-
the front page has what mages have been used under
"Reference for mages used sorted by each player"
-
Hey!
I'm a bit confused regarding group B.
Originally it states Grimmbart, Drefan, Jeffman, Reddicediaries, Jbuzzsaw79.
On mages used by player and challengeone it states: Drefan, Jeffman, Reddicediaries and Jbuzzsaw79 and LuckiestLuke.
I'm however getting mesages from Grimmbart trying to setup a game and since I've already played 3 matches and only have Reddicediaries left to play against I'm a bit confused. Is luckiestluke grimmbart or did he get replaced and both me and grimmbart missed it?
-
Unfortunately I think he did get replaced. Not sure when it happened. But that is sad Grimmbart matches are some of the ones I remember most from last year.
-
Official word is that after two and a half weeks of no response it was assumed that Grimmbart dropped. Luckiest Luke was on the top of the wait list and provided the replacement. Condolences to Grimmbart for the loss of his tournament spot.
-
I also officially want to declare that Jeffman and Keejchen should be given banana stickers or some sort of similarly sought after honor for being the first members of their groups to complete all of their group stage games. Excellently done, Gentlemen!
For the rest of you slowpokes....let's get a move on! I should not be caught up on video releases before the group stage is over.
-
All the games so far in order of date. First mage won the confrontation, second mage lost.
Warlord (dwarf) - Siren
Priest - Wizard
Wizard - Priestess
Priestess - Warlock (m)
Beastmaster (m) - Warlock (f)
Beastmaster (m) - Siren
Beastmaster (m) - Warlock (f)
Wizard - Siren
Priest - Beastmaster (m)
Beastmaster (f) - Warlock (m)
Wizard - Paladin
Druid - Priestess
Druid - Wizard
Priest - Warlord (dwarf)
Druid - Siren
Warlord (orc) - Warlord (dwarf)
Warlord (dwarf) - Priestess
Druid - Beastmaster (f)
Necro - Priestess
Warlock (f) - Siren
Warlord (orc) - Warlord (orc)
Druid - Warlord (dwarf)
Beastmaster (f) - Necro
That's it so far. A summary:
Warlord (dwarf): 2-3
Warlord (orc): 2-1 (only mirror match so far)
Warlock (m): 0-2
Warlock (f): 1-2
Paladin: 0-1
Priest: 3-0
Priestess: 1-4
Beastmaster (f): 2-1
Beastmaster (m): 3-1
Wizard: 3-2
Necro: 1-1

So far only Druid is undefeated (5-0) and so far Siren was the only mage who did not win a single match - not because we didn't try, with 5 games she was used most of all mages. There is not a single mage who was used 6 times so far.

Ok props to Enti for posting that glorious reminder of how much we all suck at Siren :) Tell you what though.
If anyone WINS an ADMW Tournament match with the Siren I'll personally mail them a full set of alternate art mage cards. Arena and Academy alternates. That's 18(yeah sure I can do math at 12am...) alternate art cards.
I tried to be the only guy who won with Siren so I could talk smack....mostly to Shark and lost. So I'll offer a prize to anyone who succeeds where I...and everyone else so far has failed.
I'll pay the over sea shipping costs too. Pull it off past the group stage and I'll throw in a metal initiative coin.

Silverclawgrizzly VS Juli: Friday May 18th 12pm EST.

DevSop vs. Enti 6pm EST // 12pm CEST
Would be nice if a recorder would be present.

That's this upcoming Sunday.

True, thank you ^^
-
DevSop vs. Enti 6pm EST // 12pm CEST
Would be nice if a recorder would be present.
So, my figuring is 12pm CEST is 6*AM* EDT...Is it midnight or noon your time, Enti?
-
Midnight my time, evening for US citizen.
-
Midnight my time, evening for US citizen.
Alright, next question: is that midnight between Saturday and Sunday or midnight between Sunday and Monday?
I suppose another way to put it is: is devil planning to play on Saturday or Sunday evening?
-
I planned on Sunday evening my time.
-
I planned on Sunday evening my time.
Very good! I will endeavor to get that game recorded at the very least.
-
Just a reminder to all participants: You have 15 days to complete the group stage! Let's get those matches scheduled!
-
Just wanted to give an update. The standings are still pretty open on who advances! Just a quick congrats to both Romeoxero and Juli being the ones sure to advance!
-
FIRST STAGE COMPLETE!
Just wanted to give a big congratulations to everyone advancing to the second stage. To everyone that is not advancing, I wanted to thank you for fighting well! There were a lot of great games and it will be fun to see what mages come out in the second stage.
Puddnhead and I will be doing a prediction stream this Wednesday 6/20 at 8PM CDT. If you wanted to be a part of it, check out the Challonge link. They have a new prediction mode that lets all of you guess who will advance to become champion. We'll check out everyone's predictions and chuckle at the pre-tourney stress that every competitor must be feeling here. Feel free to fill out the whole thing, as once the brackets open you will not be able to predict anymore.

The sun was setting in the distance, flooding the sky with different hues of red and orange, only interrupted by some dark clouds, a flock of black birds and the smoke rising from the burning castle. The ground was dipped in red as well, as I strode over scorched earth, trying to avoid all the arrows, swords and torn limbs lying around. There was no point in trying to avoid the blood. Might as well try to avoid the piss when swimming in a children's pool. My boots and half my pants were already suited to camouflage me on this post-battlefield when I finally found its owner. He didn't have any fans and followers around this time. Just a gruntled old man, who somehow managed to menacingly clean up this acre of mess.
"Lord Crage," I called out, waving my hands. Startled, he jerked his head around, with a wild and hunted look to his face. One of his eyes still had the embers of dark powers glowing behind its Iris, the other just stared at me, ashen and grey. It took him a second to recognize me and another to find his composure, but he subtly shifted his pose, rammed the ornate shovel into the ground with his remaining arm and waved back to me, some of his old arrogance returning to face and posture.
"I've been expecting you. Heard you coming a mile away and smelled your perfumes even before that," he said after just having shaken off the shock from being surprised by me.
"Not smelling of death, smoke and defeat kind of sets me apart from the place. Small wonder I'm sticking out." I chose to go along with his facade. Might get me some better answers from him. As I said that, a root came out of the ground and slithered up his leg like a snake. He eyed it for a second, as if weighing up different ways to violently get rid of it. In the end, he just sighed and shook his leg loose.
"So what was that thing you said about gardeners and warriors when I interviewed you?"
"I said that I wasn't preparing for fights against gardeners."
"You sure proved that point. That looked as unprepared as it gets."
The root came back, tugging at his foot. This time, he scorched it with flames from his hand. As he tried to beat out his burning robe, I looked at the remaints of battle around us.
"Is that Sardonyx over there?"
"No, that's the other gigantic bone dragon that got sacrificed against me." Sarcasm was dripping from his voice. He was obviously past the point of smalltalk.
"What did you think about his master, your first opponent?"
"He was good. Takes a lot of balls to summon the damn beast and even better judgement to get him out and actually have him be useful. Almost beat me, too."
"What about the other opponent you defeated? That ended on a knife's edge as well."
"Wizards are a tough bunch. He was pretty close to winning, but his concentration slipped near the end. I got to say I enjoyed crushing and suffocating him almost as much as I love to curse someone to a slow death."
"The other wizard was even tougher. Do you think you'd have won if..."
"If I didn't fuck myself square in the face by walking into his purge? I don't think we'll ever find out. It would have been less onesided and I'd sure make him suffer. Can't say if I'd win it though."
He looked to the horizon, towards the direction where the other battles would start soon. His ashen eye flared up, glowing red for a heartbeat and a look of regret and longing stole itself onto his face. I wanted to ask a question, but he answered it without me asking.
"I honestly don't think I could have survived being the thing that blocks Enti from entering the finals, much less blocking Juli from reaching Enti. Those two are going to crush all opposition. Juli's out for blood after having to stand on the sidelines at the end of the Sprudelhof battles. I pity his opponents. Most of the people who advanced so far don't have enough good books for their fights any more. Juli doesn't have enough fights left for his good books."
He grabbed the shovel and went back to his work. A small imp landed next to us, also carrying a shovel. As I looked across the battlefield, I noticed the carrion birds almost systematically working as if they were helping remove the corpses. A zombified Direwolf was literally digging its own grave and I could have sworn the scarred stump that reached out from Crage's shoulder had been shorter a few minutes ago. As he turned away to silently dismissed me, I asked a final question that had been nagging me.
"What burned your castle? None of your losses involved fire."
"That? Me. Place was overrun with lashers and Gremlins. I burned it all. I'll rebuild it even better and you bet I'll be there for the next battle. Write that into your damn report. Doesn't matter where they are, who they are or how strong they are. There's good days, there's bad days. Night follows day, lights fade to dark. And in that darkness, I'll wait. When my time comes, theirs is up."
-
Finish the book homie. I'll be the first to buy one.

I'm fighting Farkas on Sunday July 15th at 9:30pm EST.

Official Announcement
Hey guys!
Just wanted to write about the status of the tournament. So it's been a rough two months. I got injured, other player's lives had issues with playing games. After some deliberation and attempts to communicate we have decided to give Juli a loss and move forward with the tournament. If he comes back he can still play from the loser's bracket, but if he misses the next deadline it will be considered a second loss.
Gen con is this week, so we are going to take a week off to do that. Starting August 6th we will resume the two week timer of playing your matches. Please check out challonge to see who you are facing. If you are having issues with communicating a time to schedule a match, always feel free to reach out to me or Puddnhead.
Good luck to everyone in the finals!
Thanks,
Coshade
-
Due to unforseen circumstances I shall be withdrawing from this tournament. Good luck to everyone and thanks for the matches.

That sucks! Really enjoyed your games in this tournament, especially your warlord with fast Grimson was a treat :)
As for the tournament, wouldn't it ideal to have Farkas advance and take Silver's spot in the LB round 2?
-
Sounds like a reasonable idea.
-
Yea puddnhead and coshade reached out. I’m back in!!! I look forward to some more tourny matches!!!
-
Update!
Just wanted to give a shout out to anyone that was interested in this tournament. I know everyone got a bit busy, for various reasons we have had some players drop. But I have been contacted by a few players that want to see this tournament through!
By now a lot of the MW players have gone over to Discord. In general we've seen less traffic here because of the discussions being transferred there. If anyone is interested please follow the link below if you wanted to join the discord. I'll be posting this in the discord just to double check on everyone's status.
So any of the players that are looking to play out the rest of the tournament. Please check in here and reply to this post! I am hoping we can finish this over the holiday season and possibly go a week or two into January. With this kind of break, I believe it is truly anyone's game. Let's give this until the 26th and start the dropping of players.
I look forward to finishing this tournament, and seeing some awesome games.

So I have been contacted by a few people from the tournament. Unsurprisingly a lot of people are rusty and busy! That being said I would like to wrap up this tournament over the next few weeks. I did have a few people also contacted me wanting to join the fight! So I figured we would open it up to the anyone that wants to join. We'll do a single elimination starting Friday, January 4th. Also any mages can be used! All other rules on the front page is still standing. Good luck! Please PM me or respond to this thread to sign up.
Also I realize the discord link expired. I posted a link that will never expire, so feel free to join up and hang out with the community!

After watching 2 MW games on keejchen's channel I am all in to resume the tourney.
Are the new cards allowed that appeared while the tourney was running? I presume they are not?
Reddice, show yourself! ^^
-
Thanks for all the entries guys! I'll be updating things later today. Sharpen your wits and prepare for the ARENA!
-
good luck to all the participants.
