I currently am scheduled to play in the tournament, but with out time to playtest and build I may withdraw. Still not certain.
I'm going in with practically no testing either.  Should be interesting.

What is the offiical policy on how to handle cards from earlier printings that have had their text updated in a more recent printing?  My core sets are from the first printing, and I know that quite a few of the cards have been tweaked in later printings.

I can still use the physical copies I have from the 1st edition, right?  But the wording for the most recent printing would apply?

On a related note, is there any place that one can find a comprehensive list of all cards that have received updated text?  The officlal Mage Wars Rules Supplement has updates for some cards, but not all.  (For example, it has updated text for Battle Fury, but does not mention Skeletal Sentry being updated to have the Soldier subtype.)

General Discussion / companion app question
« on: July 16, 2015, 10:56:40 PM »
Is there a way to export a build from the companion app to some kind of text format?

I'm trying to figure out if there's an easy way to share my list with a friend, or if I'm going to have to redo the list in a more "shareable" format.

General Discussion / Re: Battlegrounds Domination Release Update

It's unfortunate but it isn't Arcane Wonders' fault. & it's certainly better than releasing an inferior product.

The question now is, how does this change the release schedule of the upcoming products, if at all?

Academy, PVS, and the DTE line are separate from this and should not be impacted.  Academy is still scheduled for pre-release at Gen Con and full release later this year, and the team is working on PVS, Onitama, City of Gears, and Royals as well for the DTE line.
What is DTE?

I'm a little underwhelmed by Ziggurat of Undeath. It only really functions to extend your book when you don't have any other creatures left to play. You can reanimate an opponent's creature if it would be particularly beneficial, like brogan fighting angels, but that will rarely happen. Add in that it only triggers when one of your zombies destroys a creature, and it means only late game zombie centric builds will get much use.

As for the possibility of changing the opinion in the new releases, I would be surprised if the new releases changed my opinion.
I think it's more important that you only have to pay half the creature's cost to reanimate it.  It's an economy booster as well as saving on spellbook points.

Three MONTHS would be rather excessive.  Other games I've played tend to have 1-3 weeks before new product becomes tournament legal after release, and I think that's pretty reasonable.

Yeah the logic probably being something along the lines of, if you notice that mostly one type of mage makes it to Day 2 you could alter your book to better meet that particular challenge.
Of course, though, everyone else would have that same option, so if you tweak your book based on the popularity of mage X, you might show up the next day and find them all playing mage Y instead.

I know in other games I've played that allow separate lists for different days, some players will deliberately bring their second best build to day 1 so that they don't tip their hand about their build for the finals.

I don't really have a preference either way, I just wanted to make sure I knew which method was being used.

For those that make the cut to the second day, do they have to play the same list, or can we play one on Friday and a different one on Saturday?

So if you have no intention of playing dominion(or vtar spells), and already have all those now-legal promos, there are 5 new spells.
You're a glass half-empty sort, aren't you?

Also, just because a card references V'tar doesn't mean it can ONLY be used in domination games.  The Sslaak and Usslaak cards, for example, get a bonus when in a zone with a V'tar Orb, but they can still be played in regular games just fine.

Here was my opening at origins in my game against Laddinfance which I most likely won but ended up disputed:
Okay, I'll bite.  How did you "most likely win" a game but have it disputed?

I thought I had read somewhere that the arena-players would have something to play with this year too...
begining 2016?  :'(
Battlegrounds Domination is an Arena release.  (And a really fun one!)

Not Reanimation, Rise again.  Rise again is a curse that when a creature dies, the warlock, or dark mage pays half the mana and at the beginning of the next turn it comes back as a zombie with damage equal to its level.  It does work, and works well.  Combining it with the AC warlocks ability to curse weave is very strong.
What he also exploited was my inability to remove face down enchantments. I did not have any seeking dispels in my book. So just by casting rise again on a Sslak or Usslak, I had to consider the ramifications of killing it, giving him another creature.  This definitely slowed my progress with the V'tar.
In short he used the Sslak's abilities to his own advantage. The damage shield on the demon hide armor hastened the Sslak's demise and after it died he had a very effective guard in the zone.
I know you're talking about Rise Again.  Rise Again tells you to reanimate the creature.

Reanimate (Effect)
This creature reanimates upon death. If this creature is destroyed, it is moved from the discard pile to the zone it was just destroyed in, and placed face down in that zone, with a face-down action marker on it. This creature is considered temporarily out of play. At the end of the round, the creature card is flipped face up and is Summoned into play. Reanimate does not occur if the creature is removed from the game when it is destroyed. See “Obliterate.” Note that, unless it says otherwise, the Mage who controls the effect which grants Reanimation is the object summoning the creature into play.
(comprehensive codex)

If the guardian is destroyed, it is removed from the game. It does not go to any player’s discard pile.
(domination rulebook)

The idea is good, but the wording prevents it from actually working.
