General Discussion / Re: Is the Priestess Overpowered?
« on: October 31, 2012, 04:18:50 AM »
Thanks everyone for replying to my post. you've given me some great ideas to counter my 12 year old daughter who loves this mage. Poisoned Blood, Deathlock and aggressive style seem to be the way to go and not allowing her to build up makes sense.

General Discussion / Is the Priestess Overpowered?
« on: October 29, 2012, 03:57:21 AM »
Hi gamers,
I've had this game for over 3 weeks now and have played quite a few games against my kids (aged between 10 and 20). In every game where someone has played the Priestess they have absolutely thrashed their opposition, especially the Warlock and Beastmaster. Her healing just overwhelms her opponents. The typical strategy is to build temples, pray, summon her monster and then combat her opponent, healing whenever in any sort of danger ( a rarity).
I have been both aggressive and patient but neither strategy has worked. are we just playing poorly or is this character overpowered. I'm reading more and more that players prefer to play with her and to me it seems to be understandable.
I realise that balancing a game like this would be difficult, maybe we haven' yet unlocked the key to destroying her holiness. Help?
Cheers Ray

General Discussion / Re: Randomness

Hi guys,
what appeals to me about this game most is the combination of dice, cards and strategy which in my view appeals to a wide range of playstyles. The luck of the dice also adds humour to the game. In one game my beastmaster was on the verge of extinction and all alone vs a wizard and a horde of monsters.
Preparing to die I launched some final attack spells and did a total of 17 points of damage in 2 turns, losing by only 1 point. While on the surface it appeared that dice almost pulled an amazing comeback out of the fire, upon reflection it was also poor strategy on my opponent's behalf for needlessly moving his mage close to me at this point in the game to allow me to get those shots in anyway.
Ultimately good decisions will mostly win the day but loaded dice never hurt! If you want diceless strategy only then chess may be the game for you.
Cheers Ray

You can preorder Magewars at Milsims Games. By the way I failed apostrophistication at summer school on 4 separate occasions. Will keep working on this flaw. I hope I don,t need this skill when I summon my fist skeleton warrior to the battlefield. I,ll attune my mental powers in the future.

Hi,
I,m also able to preorder but past experience has taught me to be a patient boy in this regard as us Aussies are so far away! But it,s so hard as this game looks so fantastic!! My son and I can,t wait for our first match. I've watched every review and video and I,d have to say that this game looks so good that this game will replace mtg for me which is an enormous feat as I,m a long time  mtg fan. Well done Bryan and team. An excellent design.
Cheers Ray
