While i´m waiting for the final games at ADMWWS - and are waiting for opponents at OCTGN, i´m spending time watching videos.
And maybe we could all learn something from those?
#1 Sharkbait (Necromancer) vs Aridigas (Anvil Throne Warlord) 1:28:58/13 rounds.
#Spawpoint vs No Spawpoint
#Gorgon Archer vs Alendell
#Outcretured
#DoT Damage
#Rocks and Boulder
#Mass Leather
Some very nice discussion about Necro. Chasing him from one end of the arena, and back again only to be caught up with zombies.
#2. Leggyblonde (Priestess) vs Michaelj1297 (Necromancer) 1:18:14/8 rounds.
#Hardcasting creatures
#Spawnpoint vs No Spawpoint
# Take Mage action at the end
# Necromancer
# Priestess
# Paladin
# Priestess
# Cassiel
# Armor
Michaelj1297 advanced a bit to fast with few creatures and his unprotected Necromancer.
Likely better to try to let Idol Of Pestilence and Deathlock do more work.
Leggyblonde on her end did a good job of showing us the Power of the Holy School. Knight of Westlock, High Temple Guards and a lot of Luminous Blast is scary to most of us.
#3. Sharkbait (Paladin) vs DrMambo23 (Druid) 2:00:34/15 rounds.
#Paladin
#Druid
#Alendell
#Giant Wolf Spider
#Chant of Rage
#Use the Druid
#Spawnpoint vs No Spawnpoint
#Outcreatured
#Focusing down Holy creatures
#Enchanter Ring
Its rare to see a Druid getting outcreatured, but its kind of what happened here.
Early Alendell vs early Giant Wolf Spider ended with dead Spider + valor for Paladin.
Paladin end up having Alendell (4-8 dice), Balista ( 5dice) and a Buffed Paladin (? dice)
Anything the Druid could put up pretty much just died.
It happens a lot when you are behind in "tabledice".
DrMambo could have played better. Using the Druid more - risking hits from Alendell but saving plants/creatures
Waiting a bit with the Spider - i think Spider is great but not a front line fighter - more or less the same as Sharkbaits thoughts on Flamming Hellion.
https://soundcloud.com/sharkbait-455678935/mage-cast-11
Also i think you should try to set up shop in the near center, mostly because you want to fight outside Battleforge Range.
Shark did a real good job with this buddy Paladin spellbook. Killing Holy creatures is really hard, and if you only damage them - whoops disgusting forms of healing shows up and then you just back to start.
Its so bad that i went running around in my living room yesterday yelling "woot" woot" , when i managed to kill an Asyrian Cleric :)
Concerning Enchanters Ring: I used to be in love with this having it in every spellbook, but i´ve recently got in doubt if its worth it? Here i did´t see it used much. It should be best early when mana matters the most, but if you don´t get to use it more than 1-3 times in the first 10 rounds you might be better off doing something else.
Just something i will look for in the next videos.
#4 CapRedBear (Priest) vs MrBubo (Anvil Throne Warlord) 1:13:35/11 rounds
#Worst Mages in the game
#Out of the Box
#Mana Siphon
#Undoing game
#Resplendent Bow
#Tanglevine
#Pillar of Righteous Flame
#Battleforge
#loopy
#Enchanters Ring
First thing i have to say thank you to CapRedBear! Its a pleasure to watch you play Priest. If anyone still think Priest is one of the weakest mages, to the point of being unplayable. Watch a video like this.
Mana Siphon just win games and i have never seen it been bad. In this game it just gave the Priest a damage lead putting the Dwarf under pressure.
For MrBubo i think you made a pretty big mistake with the early Elemental Wand (which you never used) If you not going to use it in round 2 why deploy it?
Just imagine changing your deploy in round 2 and 3. First the Leather then the Elemental Wand now with Arc Lightning and a Power Rune. Assuming you still wanted to go for the Siphon - you would save 2 mana early and keep the Arc lightning Spells.
After destroying the Siphon i think more caution was in order. Regrowth Belt, try to stay at range 2 from the Priest and maybe Champions Gauntlets + Mage Wand w Cantrip and some kind of healing.
Just let me return to my pet project: Enchanter Ring. CapRedBear deployed an Enchanters Ring from Battleforge and then used it to enchant himself with Hawkeye. Basically he got the Enchanters Ring for free, and even if he didn't cast another enchantment for a long time it was a good play. Wanting to play Mana Siphon and then next round Bow+ Dawn-breaker Ring + burn mana. Pretty good!
Oh and I think the Dwarf might be the best at the undoing game. I think someone said otherwise in the video. Granted in the situation he was is it wasn't time for it.
#5 Werekingdom (Druid) vs. Grimmbart (Forcemaster) 1:41:18/12 rounds
#Chai
#Supersquad
#Manabattle
#Treebond
#Lifebond
#42
#Outofshool
#Grimson
#Ehren
#Mhgedden
#Kralathor
#Flaming Hellion
#Jinx
#Spawnpoint vs No Spawpoint
#Forcepull
Pretty amazing supersquad Forcemaster by Grimbart. Ehren, Mhgedden and Grimson!
Cool tight spellbook at around 42 cards. Mind Control, Arcane Ward, Jinx, Fumble
Shows us all what can be done with out of school spellbooks.
But not only has Grimbart made a really good spellbook, he also played really well and applied hard pressure.
A fun thing happens when you are the aggressor and get a lead - you don´t have to "waste" mana on defenses.
Talking about out of school - did you notice that Flaming Hellion in Werekingdoms Druid Spellbook?
Pretty nice!
In my mind Flaming Hellion was a fire guy and therefore absolutely nogo. But getting a guy with Flame Immunity is pretty good and he can be real usefull in a mirror match as well.
In some other tread Bloodcrag Minotauer was suggested for Druid. You could use Thornlashers to snatch the Enemy away from the Minotaur and then get his charge bonus! But i don´t agree, with a Grizzly you can use Thornlashers to pull creatures to and back into Grizzly zone. And as Grizzly more or less = Minotaur your just wasting 4 spellbookpoints.
Thats not the cause with Grimbarts or Werekingdoms choises.
Talking about going out of school i think i could benefit a lot from making max 50 cards book - you might even save money on card sleeves.
Werekingdom messed up round 1-5, but after that he looked like he got some coffee or some nice chai, because he almost came back from what looked like a lost position after 5 rounds.
Forgetting Treebond and Lifebond was the smallest thing. He didnt really forget to treebond - its just not automated.
Turn 2 he only casted a Mana Flower and didnt use his QC. Playing a Druid vs a FM you already won the "Spellbookbattle" or "manabattle". You are already ahead in channeling and he cast a creature, so i think its good to start casting creatures as well, preferably smaller ones.
Turn 3 was a Grizzly and Enchanters Ring. Well Grizzlies are amazing, but vs a FM who might run Mind Control is just a bit dangerous. If you wanted a big creatures you could go for Kralathor, Enchanters Ring + Enchantment.
Turn 4 was Meridias Blessing and move to FC and Surging Wave Ehren. I think moving to the FC was to dangerous and i rather hit Ehren with Acid Ball from Meridias Blessing zone. You could also consider Mage Wand and Dispel on Ehrens regrowth. I really think just accepting that he gets Ehren and Mhgedden for "free" would have been better and just casting creatures, because i doesn't really matter that you pay more mana for your creatures because your economy is way better.
Turn 5. Nothing wrong here. Grimbart played well and it looked Grim :) but you did very well, and might even have made it.
I don´t know if i covered all the # but im real tired, so..
Easy Chai:
Cardamom, Cloves, Cinnamon and Black tea - boil add water then milk and sugar/honey. Pretty nice!
#6 Arxiducs vs Sailor Vulcan 50:45+ 11 rounds 50:45+1:04:45
#Priest
#Holy Avengers
#Psychic Immunity
#Chant of Rage
#Reverse Attack
#Out of the box
#King of Academy
#Fatigue Force Master
#Blood Reaper
#Sanguine Hunters
#Battleforge
#Malakais Basilika
#Bloodthirsty & Guards
#Arcane Corruption vs Mass Enchant
#Focusing down creatures
#Vampirism
Pretty nice epic match vs good and evil. Both playing without a creature spawnpoint.
Im wondering why Sailor Vulcan (priest) put Hand of Bim-Shalla not in his starting corner?
Or maybe what conjuration had he planned to put in the starting corner?
At round 3 Arxiducs had 16 mana and elected to forfeit deploying from Battleforge and not use his qc, to hardcast a Necropian Vampiress for all the 16 mana. Im sure i´ve deployed the Leather and gone hitting on Hand of Bim-Shalla with the Warlock instead and then use the Bloodreaper to either hit whatever hit the Warlock or help with the Hand. It would have been much slower.
Arxiducs choice might actually be better, it did really put pressure on.
Other than that, Necropian Vampire and Bloodreaper Blood Demon was really good vs Cassiel.
Looks like Sailor lost because he was unable to focus down the Bloodreaper or the Necropian Vampire early.
And the Asyran Defender Holy Avenger didn't do that much, did it?
#7 Poopstar (Arraxian Crown Warlock) vs Werekingdom (Priest) 49:20/8 rounds
#Battleforge
#Zombie Brute
#Cassiel
#Mhgedden
#Temples
#Holy Creatures
#Enchanters Ring
#Spawnpoint vs No Spawpoint
#Boulders
Very fast and Brutal game :) Close and exciting.
Its supposed to be difficult to play without a creature spawnpoint vs one. Until now we seen it done/perform very well. I know that going to change in some of the future games, so its kind of interesting - Why did Poopstar do so well? (and the others as well)
Poopstar played a very good game here. And that might be an understatement :)
Basically he got 3 creatures with 7 dice each pretty fast. Good use of Battleforge and Enchanters Rings looks like it was worth it. Even if its kind of meh. I didn't watch he mana closely, but rather than the 2 discount Rings, early Leather might have been better. It depends on how much he really needed those mana discounts from the rings, instead of saving a few points of damage.
Werekingdom played a bit to aggressive here i think. Moving forward and attacking to soon, without any backup. This is just my opinion and the game was really close - as Coshade, Shark and Puddin pointed out praying with the Dawnbreaker´s Initiate so you could heal with a Messenger of Bim-Shalla might have changed things. Temple of Asyra casted Asyran Cleric, Dawnbreaker´s Initiate and Temple Sentry?
With a Temple your not going for an 8 round game, because why not just hardcast your creatures instead?
And then just a note on the setup. Id think id like to protect the Malakai's Basilika a bit better. Move and put crystal x2 just not in the starting zone. Then next round put down MB in your starting corner and Temple of Asyra were you did. Is MB more important? Even if not the Mana Crystals are just a tad harder to take down, especially for a Warlock.
And with all that let me just say i am impressed (and scared) on how much damage you were able to do, just with the Priest alone.
#8 Reddice (Anvil Throne Warlord) vs Vulcan. 28:42/5 rounds
#Armor
#Battleforge
#Psychic Immunity
#Shoalsdeep Crocodile
#Iron Golem
#Queen in chess
#Water Elemental
#Do not give up!
#Defense
First @Red Very well played! Just have to agree with Puddin, Shark and Coshade there.
Nice defensive mode, when you saw him charging. Iron Golem perfect response vs Siren.
Pretty much a perfect game.
@Sailor - again i have to agree with Shark. Don´t give up so easy.
Siren rush might work. Don´t like a Croc for that. Id think you´d do better with 4 Water Elementals.
Water Elementals just last a lot longer.
Personally id start with Naiya and Shallow Sea, then move towards the Dwarf.
#9 Sailor Vulcan (Forcemaster) vs Ash (Necromancer) 56:16/7 rounds
#Metachange
#Mind's Eye
#Cloak of Shadows
#Zombies
#Incorporeal
#Force Hammer
#Mass Leather
#Zombie Frenzy
#WoT
Very Well done Sailor!
Not only a well played game by you, but also a game changing new way to play Forcemaster with the Mind´s Eye. Got really scared when i saw this, and i really feel with Ash. Getting hit by something like this, not having seen something like this before. Its Brutal.
I hated FM before and now this >:(
I cant really blame Ash for moving in the first round, and i would be hard to come up with counters on the spot.
Force Hammer on the Mind´s Eye won´t really help - id rather use those on the Thoughtspores.
Idol of Pestilence in the starting corner might have worked. Might have bought you some time.
And then just double move vs the FM. Likely to leave you in a bad spot still, but you might just have gone in range soon enough.
Skeletons, Graveyard might do a tad batter and maybe Unstoppable Zombies? (those die pretty fast to Acid Balls)
Mass Leather won´t work against an Acid Ball spore (or Dissolve)
Jacksmack vs Charmyna was pretty much identical matchup. Its not on video and i only saw like 5 min off it.
Jacksmack used a Crumble Thoughtspore to dissolve all Charmyna´s leather. Only after was it discovered that Mind´s Eye can only be used to cast Quick Spells. Mistakes like this happens all the time, especially with new cards.
Mind´s Eye still very good, and from personal experience i can tell you to watch out for this. Get into the Forcemasters zone with a couple of Brutes? Whats her forcepull herself from a Minds Eye then run 2.
While you chase her arougn you might just die from rocks and whatnot.
Incorporeal seems to be a problem. We have seen Mind´s Eye and Mana Siphon practically win games until now.
Well its exciting times. Zombies don´t rule anymore.
#10 Sharkbait (Bloodwave Warlord) vs Romeoxero (Arraxian Crown Warlock) 1:30/10r
#Hardcasting creatures
#Transfusion Bomb
#Gate to Voltari
#Guard
#Flying
#Outcreatured
#Battleforge
#Enchanter Ring
#Focus
#Battle Orders
#Purge Magic
#Dice OP
Another real fun match to watch. Intense!
#Battleforge/Enchanter Ring.
Textbook use of Battleforge and both Rings. Warlock just got better when they can curse their own creatures with something like Demonic Bloodlust. Even better on a creature that has Bloodthirsty anyway.
Hope to see someone cast it on a Cassiel at a crucial moment.
#Hardcasting creatures.
Pretty nice to have 5 orcs ready with 20 dice at round 5. I have to agree with pudding id put out a Goblin Slinger round 1 actually vs an AC Warlock. If he still had put out a Bloodreaper Blooddemon id continue to put out ranged creatures. Bloodreaper Blooddemon is no joke.
Warlord crew : id like to see Gurmash and a Bloodwave Greatbow. Gurmash can cast Brace Yourself and do Battle orders. Its a shame that you don´t have Quick March, but i guess you can´t have everything.
#FC/NC
I would have moved to the top row to put the curses on the Warlord. I think the FC is a more important square.
Its were the Warlord will put Ballista or Gravikor. Same with the Force Push (real good move to bypass guards there!) id rather push the Warlord to NC. Keeps Battleforge in play and makes it more difficult to wall off.
Blooddemon was misplaced for that.
#Curseweaving
Small thing here but it did look like Romeo forgot to take his Demonic Bloodlust back in the book?
From an A++ performance to just A+ (which normally win games if you play that well)
#Harshforge Monolith
Id like to have seen the Monolith in the round Shark almost prepared it.
Looked like it could get a 7 mana upkeep!
#Purge Magic
No. For 9 spellbookpoints?
Id take Arcane Corruption+Arcane ward+Remove Curse and either Purify or Hand Of Bim Shall instead.
That said Purge Magic is real good.
#DiceOP
OMG what a Ballista shot. And at such a crusial time - not much you could do vs the 8 dice Blooddemon.
And yes i agree a Heal had been good :)
#11 Parkdeck (Paladin) vs Redicediaries (Necromancer) 58:13/7 rounds
#Eternal Servant
#Battleforge
#Crusade Banner
#Cassiel
#Guardian Angel
#Focus
#Chant of Rage
#Gravikor
#Cloak of Shadows
#Pillar of Righteous Flame
#When to take your Mage action
Very quick defeat for the Necromancer here.
Forgetting Eternal Servant, small mess up revealing Chant of Rage on non-active Cassiel, deciding to go after the hard targets first, not focusing down enemy creatures, taking Mage action early, Gravikor in a situation were 1 Maim Wings would have been better, and just a bit below on dice luck caused this really fast defeat.
Not that i think Parkdeck played perfectly either. Pillar of Righteous Flame is super strong and vs. a Necro its just brutal. Hitting the Necro with the Pillar was an odd choise - seem like Parkdeck didn´t know or forgot that Cloak of Shadows has Light -2.
Im not really convinced on the use of Crusade Banner either. Was it really that important to put Guardian Angel and Cassiel forward? It ended up working fine, but it didn't look to me that Parkdeck saved anything - more like he paid 5 mana to move 2 creatures to squares.
Still i feel Reddice would have needed a big army and some heavy cursing to have a chance here.
Its really hard to kill most of the Holy creatures.
Maximum post lenght is 20000 characters so i have to make a part 2, 3, 4 etc. :)
-
You can learn what not to do if you watch my match with drmambo! Lol. For real though that match shows the brutal efficiency of chant of rage and zombies.

Cool idea Bilblofilter! I semi remember these matches.
it's fun reading the actions and making up a narrative to these outcomes.
It also is really cool to see it broken up and how the action efficiency with or without the spawn points. I'm sure the action efficiency vs the outcomes may be surprising.
Will have to watch them again.

This is awesome Biblo!
One note: in the Redbeard vs Aridigas match on Schwen's channel, we saw the double spawnpoint paladin with knights and angels. Redbeard lost that one pretty hard, but that Paladin is actually very easy to beat. Just dont let them build up mass economy and you are good. Port the knights out one by one if you can. Once the DPS is down, all the angels can do is delay.
Chant of rage and other things work pretty good as well.
-
@Red i hope to get to Schwenkgotts videos after i finish the 20 something Arcane Duels Videos.
I need to practice my german anyway. After that i hope to look at Schneente and Keejchens videos :)
Anyway i was hoping to look at what spells are actually used in games. Not promising anything!

Great match! love the gorgon in a Necromancer book. My Necro book is very different but uses the Gorgon too.
I think I like Sharkbait's book better,it seems more versatile.

Thanks for the help farkas1
Always loved the Gorgon myself, in any book really.
But good synergy with Plague Master.
After Chant of Rage came out i don´t use Gorgon Archer much anymore >:(

Why not? Just pack a couple mind shields.

Mind shield is still not good Imo.
Vs sirens call, you spend 4 mana, most likely 2 SBP, and an action vs one Mana, no sbp, and an action.
-
Mind shield isn't a mandatory reveal. Don't reveal it agaist a sirens call if its there to stop a chant of rage.

Ah my bad.
Still, I'm not really a fan of the card.
-
One of the reason i liked Gorgon Archers was i didn't need to support her much. Nature didn't really had anything at range 2 back then. I guess the difference between 8 or 10 spellbookpoints doesn't really matter, but i guess im back to Falcons and now Hunting Spear with Beastmasters now.
Both Mind Shield and Clear Mind is pretty tempting now.
To go back to the ADMW WS and what spells that was actually used i don´t think i saw a single Mind Shield or for that matter a Clear Mind. Chant of Rage on the other hand is being used a lot - not so much defenses vs that.
Might be that there is more Psychic Immune Creatures around now?

I stopped watching this video after just 5 rounds!
A lot on my mind already, and i have to go to work soon so i might as well just start commenting.
Both of these guys are making some pretty interesting stuff!
This is from ~40 min in at the start of round 5
A1 A2 A3 A4
B1 B2 B3 B4
Graveyard Zombie Crawler Mana Crystal
Zombie Minionx2 Priest (Ench)
C1 C2 C3 C4
Necro Dawnbreaker Initiate Dawnbreaker Initiate (Asyras Touch) Cassiel
Venomous Zombie Ehren (own Enchant+Chant of Rage) Dawnbr. Ini.
Dawnbreakers Initiate Spam from Romeoxero, with some buffing from Cassiel (Asyra`s Touch "for free")
I´ve been looking at Dawnbreakers Initiate myself. 3 attack dice for 5 mana is very good, add the teleport ability - and im going wow. But they don´t last long - and a lot of Temple build don´t really bring out a lot of strong solid offensive creatures early. Even something like a Knight Of Westlock im not to sure i would want to teleport it into a bunch of zombies. How can that Teleport function come in handy?
Mhgedden, Steelclaw Grizzly, Darkfenne Hydra and other slow creatures - seems like non-holy schools could use it better?
Ehren seems like a worse choice vs a Necro than vs anyone else. Poison Blood, Deathlock and Altar of Infernia.
Mambo came up with a brilliant counter to Ehren - Chant of Rage!
Acid Ball is a pretty good choice vs. Zombies - a bit odd that Romeoxero didn't Quick Cast Acid Ball then hit with his Dawnbreakers Initiate. Instead of hitting a guarding Zombie Crawler - who then got a counterstrike and then got a kill. The "Manabattle" is looking real bad here for the good guys - paying 5 mana for an Acid Ball to kill a 4 mana creature + the bad guys are getting mana back on the graveyard. To have any chance at all Romeoxero needs to kill enemy creatures without losing any himself or "just" kill the Necro.
Dr Mambo´s opening is pretty interesting:
In the first 5 rounds he ended up not having mana enough for 2 Quickcast actions, and that's even with the Wispwillow Amulet rather than the usual Mana Crystal in round 1.
I can´t help think Mambo could have casted leather earlier and waited with Cloak. But Cloak is a really good and save option. Same thing with the Skeleton Archer - made him loose a quick action, but look at the board that Archer just makes it so hard for Romeoxero to do anything useful.
There´s a lot of Mage Wars left at this put, but it really looks like Mambo has a big advantage already.
And i can´t really see that Romeo have made any play mistakes at this point.
Ziggurat made a good show here, just putting half the Holy army on the Necro side :)
I had hoped that Mambo saved his Eternal Servant for Dawnbreakers Initiate or Light of the Dawn, i do think you should just use the Eternal Servant early instead.
Dark Temple of Light :)
I think Zuberi was right that this Preist spellbook doesnt really have the mana for everything: Ele Wand, Cassiel, Temple of Asyra and Temple of Light. Something like Bow, Melee punch might make it possible to get some more muscle out of Temple of Asyra.

Already after 38 minutes Keejchen is in serious trouble with the Druid. Easy now to shake your head at the "bold" move of moving the Druid into the 2 Zombies zone. Normally Druid can soak a lot of damage, and the Zombies rolled very well - rots/taint and good damage.
Werekingdom gave up a couple of actions. 1 to cast Cloak very early and 1 more when he applied pressure with Deathlock. We seen a few players successfully give up actions and others paying 3 mana with Jinx to deny 1 Quickcast spell for a couple of rounds.
Keejchen is in serious trouble at this point. Rots nullifying his regen, Arcane Corruption dealing a ton of damage, Idol of Pestilence slowly killing Felella, Vinesnappers not doing much because they can´t move, so he has no way to put serious damage on the Necromancer. Druids real hard to kill, and often comes back, but Necromancer is one of the best at countering Druid.
He has a lot to do and not that much time to do it.
In the second part we see Keejchen starting his comeback. Transfusion the enchantments on to Felella to cancel Arcane Corruption Damage, getting Renewing Spring out, Meredias Blessing, and using those enchantments on Felella to kill Skelly Archer.
Unlucky he didnt get the Plauge Zombie, devouring it would have been good for the Druid.
Think Werekingdom could have done slightly better with the Telewand. Teleport himself instead of the Plauge Zombie then qc Teleport Brute through the wall in the QC and go hit w 6 dice rather than Poison Blood first.
I might have gone for the Tree instead of going after the Druid. Werekingdoms decision to go after the Druid might just be better.
Both playing real well in part 2. Keejchens definitively not out of the Woods - but Druid doesn't really want to leave their Trees anyway :)

end of part 2.
Nice ending here from Werekingdom were he tanglevines Keejchen and Walls him off in the corner!
Tanglevine seems to be star spell in this match, even if Teleport was very important also. Arcane Corruption, Rot and Tainted also did a great job in this match.
#14 Aridigas (Arraxian Crown Warlock) Vs. Keejchen (Anvil Throne Warlord)3:06/27 rounds
#Battleforge
#Enchanters Ring
#Ballista
#Blood Demon
Both players opened with Battle Forge and Crystal/Flower. Both placed it semi defensive in B1 and B4 were its easier to wall of. A bit strange to see the Warlock stay put in his starting corner.
A side note here is that i personally has started liking to wait a bit with the Ballista - especially vs. Ballista Mages.
Also both players did put the Crystal/Flower in A1/C4. If you have conjurations like Enchanters Wardstone, Hand of Bim Shall, Deathlock starting square is normally best for those. You would lose the ability to cast Battleforge with the QC - if you want to move in round 1.
In round 2 Aridigas shows us why he stayed put to deploy a Blood Demon Blood Reaper - deploying Enchanters Ring and enchanting the Blood Demon. Keejchens deploys pants, cast another Flower and starts his "dance" between B4 and B3.
I have serious doubt´s about early Blood Reapers. With no damage on you, you can´t heal with it, and if your opponent focus it down you usually end up having lost 4 life. Aridigas kinds of solve this here : he puts up a Wall to protect his Battleforge and hide his Blood Demon behind it! Then Force Pushes himself equipped with Fireshaper Ring and Lash of Hellfire and charge into the Ballista zone without armor - "tricking" Keejchen into hitting him.
Wall of Bones might save the Battleforge from Ballista but its also almost useless. Its a pretty big advantage for Keejchen that they are fighting in a zone were he can use his Battleforge.
I wouldnt have played Pillar of Righteous Flame that early - id just used the Battleforge more first.
After 5 rounds it looks like a small advantage for Keejchen. Especial if he take out the Demon.
Also i think Keejchen should have "danced" again moving back from B3>B4 so the Demon would have to hit itself to heal the Warlock.
Stopped the Video just after Aridigas had made a pretty big comeback.
Suddenly the Warlock and the Dwarf are fighting it out behind Wall of Bones in range of Aridigas Battleforge and out of range of Keejchens. I don´t like the third Wall - it might be the only thing that keeps the Warlock alive, but i think he needed to change gear and mount a counter attack. Rather than the third wall he might have cast Brace Yourself or Jinx. He could even just punch.
Aridigas life was 28/34 and Keejchen was at 18/34.
The missed Nullify was of course very unfortunate. Brilliant Wand game going on, Dwarf just much better at it.
Saving the Mage Wand was brilliant, wants you to put Healing Wand in just to be able to change Wands for 1 mana.
Very cool match from your both. Exiting and fun :)
Lots of stuff going on all the time.
Arraxian Crown Warlock absolutely had a chance, and almost won. ACW might be better than i think?
Dwarf is very good.
Play was actually pretty fast, when you think this is almost double the rounds of most other matches.
Great commentary from Schneente (snowduck) and Swenkgott. I might even learn a bit of German:
Geht nach links! When they wanted Keejchen to climb the wall and get to safety. Naturally Keejchen who i think understands even less German than i, went the other way :)

More or less what must have happened the first 5 rounds.
Snow-duck is taking a early lead on Legendary Creatures. Pretty amazing army already - normally holy mages takes ages to get nothing offensive out of the Temple.
Sharkbait is taking another approach. No Legendary Creatures, but Light of Dawns are pretty amazing, Guardian Angels always good and Asyran Clerics at Mana Crystal cost, with ability to hit/guard and heal.
Would love to see Asyran Cleric as a Holy Avenger!
Liking how Shark is saving his starting square for something like Malakai´s Basilika or good old Hand of Bim-Shalla.
The Legendary creatures performed in this match.
Cassiel and Ehren might share the MVP in this fight.
Cassiel was making everybody else really hard to kill - something as simple a Divine Reversal on "high" armor creatures with passive healing on. I think Shark made the right move when he went for her with the Griffin.
Griffin rolled 11 damage on 28 dice on an unarmored Cassiel, and all the Guardian Angels just made the defence vs it so not a good day for Griffin. Snowduck nullified the Griffins, fast and charge trait, first with Pillar of Righteous Flame and later with Flying creatures hindering it. Not that i saw Snowducks Holy Avenger (Knight of Westlock) get mana +2 melee +1 piercing?
Same thing happened in the Sailor Vulcan game were he used an Asyran Defender as HA. I don´t think that one got much out of the offensive bonus. +5 life is good but you would like to use the +2 melee and the piercing +1 as often as possible. I don´t play Priest, but making level 1 creatures HA has some appeal for an old Straywood Beastmaster fan. Pet a Falcon - attack with it. Pet a new Falcon. Rather than here were both Shark and Snowduck went for high level HA which are ment to stay alive.
Ehren seems underpriced to me. You get a Knight that compares to Knight of Westlock for just 5 mana?
Regrowth on Ehren cost 4 mana, one action and here 2 spellbookpoints. But regrowth just made any damage on Ehren redundant.
Dorseus is a creature i really like. Here in a mirror match vs a Holy Mage unlikely to run Poison Bloods and Deathlock - maybe not as good. If Shark rolled well at all, it was when he managed to kill Dorseus. Quite early.
Alendell pretty good as well. I this game Snowduck might have opted to meditate and then pump Alendell for that 3(4) mana rather than hit with the Priest 2 dice daze/burn basic melee attack. Stun on a 8(7) pretty good - so are 7 or 8 dice. Sometimes its better to use 2 weaker attacks than 1 big, mainly to remove a guard and partly to soak some damage on your mage - when you have amazing healing.
Guardian Angels did pretty well - and that even if we saw some nice Chant of Rage´s. I don´t think a single Guardian Angel died? And that´s without all the buffs of the other creatures.
Holy gone a lot better with the new toys, so let me just finish with Eye for an Eye - it can be pretty good :)
Timing is pretty important, but it certainly helps to focus down mini-tank´s like most of the Knights can be.
Very well played match, not a great fan of holy but its so good!
Have to have stamina and patience and like long games.
How would something like this have played out at Gen-Con? (or any other live match at 75 minutes)
#16 Jacksmack (Straywood BM) vs Powlich (Necromancer) 1:53/17 rounds
#Battleforge
#Academy
#Actions
#Healing
#Strategy
#Mass Leather
#Enchanters Ring
#Bloodthirsty

#Ziggurat of Undeath
Another really cool and interesting match.
Powlich/Necromancer:
Year i agree with you Ziggurat round was bad for you.
Ziggurat of Undeath and Shaggy eating crawler then turn the enemy creatures into zombies should work well vs a BM. You never really got that set up -and i don´t think your opening was that good for that strategy. I already prefer Graveyard, and when you plan to kill your own creatures and then turn them into zombies - i think that would have been slightly better.
You came really close to killing Jack. So you did not have to improve much for the win.
Jacksmack/Straywood Beastmaster:
I like what your done here. Very effective use of Battleforge, Enchanters Ring etc. Tons of cheap stuff that can do a lot. Pretty amazing healing.
Wychwood Fairy vs Zombie Brute is really good (as long as you roll 5+) Darkfenne Asp etc. also works good - they pretty good vs hard hitting guards also. Point is that the Fairy isn't just a mana generator she has other uses.
The whole Canine thing has really nice synergy.
Only thing i would criticize is that you came so close to dead. Maybe you were save?
Oh and Thunderift Falcons :)
#17 Thesaris (Arraxian Warlock) vs Parkdeck (Anvil Throne Warlord)/1:12+1:05/14
#Battleforge
#Bloodreaper
#Ballista
#Wand Game
#Curses
#Healing
#Pressure
Another interesting game, both opened with Battleforge and Mana Crystal/Flower.
Then Thesaris with the Warlock casted a dark Pact Slayer while Parkdeck with the Dwarf Casted a Ballista.
When Acid Ball from Wand+ Ballista immediately took down Battleforge it looked like advantage Dwarf.
But Warlock took down Ballista in return with some damage on the DPS.
As the Warlock never actually hit the dwarf and never took any damage he actually did not need that Battleforge.
He just continued to cast creatures and curses. Twice he hit a Mana Flower to no use, rather than run 2 to try and engage the dwarf or just stay and hit Battleforge. Hitting Battleforge with Blooddemon and a week Afflicted demon is hardly ideal, but not that bad either.
So how did Parkdeck/Anvil Throne Warlock loose this game? Im not really sure. He did make some useless changes of Veterans Belt/Regrowth Belt - he actually did a really good job of focusing the Warlocks creatures down.
#18 Sharkbait (Forcemaster) Vs. Powlich (Paladin)/1:00/13 rounds
Wow those Jedi´s are getting scary ???
#Scared
#Mind´s Eye
#Fatigue Forcemaster
#Ehren
#Crusade Banner
Very fast version of the Fatigue Forcemaster. Cursing the enemy from turn 2. Wow again.
That Mind´s Eye continue to impress even if i played vs it myself a few times now.
Paladin/Powlich opened with Ehren and Crusade Banner. Then heal Ehren with Martyr´s Restoration and 2x HoB.
Nice plan, but when the opponent goes for Magebane, Ghoul Rot, Poison Blood and Deathlock you might regret those 5 life you can usually just get back slowly.
Very fun game to watch. Shark clearly ahead but Powlich made an epic comeback.
I had expected Powlich to go for champions Gauntlets and Remove Curse/Purify Wand to get rid of the nasty curses. He was under hard pressure.
I wonder if the mind control on Ehren really helped?
5 dice at your opponent, rather than you seems really good. But the upkeep and the Mind Control might have been used better to put more pressure on the Paladin? Most likely no real difference.
-
Yeah Chant of Rage spam is scary.
I agree with Schwen that the best counter to Chant of Rage is having more creatures. Use the COR creature at the end of the round. Next round you can adapt. However, how to properly adapt is pretty mystifying to me as dispel is a bad trade for any non wizard.
-
From all the games we have seen so far and from a lot of the ones to come, the non creature spawnpoint books have been wiping the floor with the creature spawnpoint ones.
That is, the non creature spawnpoint books have won almost every time, not that the games weren't close.

Yeah I really like that priest book, but i REALLY should have known that mambo was gonna bring a necro. That's a really bad matchup for that book as it doesn't have a ton of stuff in it to "kill the batman" as it were. Zombies are real tough and mambo is a great player!

Vs Necro's, you need to properly judge what they are doing, when, how, and with what team you want to move in with, and what is the first priority target.
-
So you've got to... play intelligent mage wars? Lol, that's how you win any game of mage wars against any mage.

Shark vs Drmambo: Shark uses a forge and blue knight to take out Mambo's creaturs. As biblo pointed out, 8 dice for blue knight + 5 dice for ballista + x dice for paladin means almost anything Mambo played just instantly died.
P00pstar vs Werekingom: P00p's warlock smashes Werekingdom's priest.
Grimmbart vs Werekingdom: Grimmbart plays an amazing ehren + sealed demon + grimson forcemaster and smashes Werekingdom's Druid. Werekingdom played well, but was a bit tired and amazing play from grimmbart put the pressure on.
Jacksmack vs Enti: Jacksmack uses cervere and a deathlock to smash enti's preistess. Enti ran towards the deathlock, why I don't know. This game is a good example of how priestess angel spam is only really good when the opponent doesn't do anything. Enti tried playing a priest that was essentially the same as his priestess which I HIGHLY disagreed with vs Shark and that game took over 4 hours!
Jack Vs Keej: Jack Araxian rushes in with forge, the imp familar, and sealed demon for backup vs Keej's wizard. Personally, I think keejchen should have won this game. Instead of taking jack out, he turtled and lost as a result.
Those are the main ones of the top of my head.

Snowduck seems to have the upper hand here, because he has a couple of creatures with regen. Sharkbait has one thing really going for him at that is their fighting in his Temple zone. So reinforcements will be directly at the front.

When I saw enti's priest, I was so confused.
It looks to me that he's not playing a priest, he's playing a priest who is playing exactly like a priestess and is ignoring HA.
I think the book is not good as he completely ignored the priests strengths.

I partly agree with you. I made a Priest spellbook before Priestess Acedemy,PvS and LG.
I changed it for a Priestess just because "if im going to stay in my corner the whole game and meditate" why not have 10 channeling instead of 9. In the ADMW Winter Special your limited to not use the same mage more than once (1 mage twice) It very logical to make a couple of more or less identical spellbooks: Priestess, Paladin, Priest or Paladin, Warlord, Warlord or Warlock, Warlock, (Necro) or Beastmaster, Beastmaster, (Druid)
In fact i´m pretty sure you can find players who have used very similar spellbooks with different mages.
Not a bad strategy at all. If you comfortable with a spellbook and know that mage, his spells very well, your likely to do well with a similar build with a similar mage.
I disagree with "I think the book is not good as he completely ignored the priests strengths". Even if i just started watching the video i think snowduck´s /enti´s spellbook looks quite strong.
Cassiel, Ehren, Brogan, Dorseus and Alendell out at round 6?
I think you can complete ignore some of your mages strengths or abilities in play and spellbookbuilding and still do very well.

Well, you served me Biblo. ;)
The main thing I don't like is that non the priest's unique abilities are being used.
I think not using HA is a BIG mistake.
I'm pretty sure Coshade will agree with me on this: play to a mage's strengths. The priest's strengths are not mass high level creatures and no HA.

Why would you ever play priest if you don't use HA?
If you do that, the priest is literally poor man's priestess who can punch things.
NEVER EVER ignore an ability.
-
Well I expect that if you want to rush the enemy with light attacks you're better off with priest than priestess because of his other ability. While most of the time it's useful to take all abilities into account when spellbook building, you don't always have to use all of your abilities in every matchup.
I.e. If you want a warlock that uses a buddy goran instead of a bloodreaper. He's the only one who can use goran so based on this it's clear that the designers expected players to not use all abilities every game and perhaps even not in every book.

Dude, you can do whatever you want. If you play to two of a mages strengths and ignore one you probably just have a really fine point on your book focus. Is the Joktari rushmaster a bad book? It completely ignores two of its abilities entirely in favor of killing you right away. Some mages are easier to plan there abilities, or they just happen anyway when doing things like attacking (battle skill for instance) or summoning creatures (quick summoning, blood reaper, or pet) or are passive and happen always (poison immumity, deflect, and smoldering curses are decent examples). Sometimes its easy to account for one or note of these just by being a mage who's going to attack or curse. Sometimes its not as easy to account for all of them.
Bottom line build what you want. Ive got a priestess full of curses and malacoda abd its a freaking blast!

I was a bit too harsh. :)
I just don't like when people say oh x y and z mage is better than x y z other mage and yet they don't even you x mages ability.
HA is an amazing ability. Ignoring it makes absolutely no sense to me.
If your building a priest book for a competive tourney, ignoring the HA is not the way too go imo.
To answer your question, the rushmaster is a good training book. Imo, it will never beat a good player who knows how to counter it and plays well.

Ahem not that it matters that much, but Schneente (Snowduck) actually did cast and use a Holy Avenger.

It's just dang expensive and you need to spend resources to keep him alive most likely. With clerics, it's really cheap to make a new HA and they are generually not the biggest threat.

#Deathlock
#Ehren

#Priestess
#Felella

#Pressure
Another agro match from Jacksmack. Johktari is scary. Or rather I think fast is an amazing ability.
Running around all over the place shooting boomerangs, fireball or whatever is your preference.
It seemed to me that Snowduck (Schneente) played the exact same spellbook - only now with better channeling and better abilities. He was put under early pressure. Deathlock+Felella+buffed Cervere+buffed Johktari is quite a treat. I think Snowduck made a bad decision when he moved two to the left, rather than 1) stay in his zone and meditate. Temple zone would be a lot safer, and just easier to get creatures out. 2) Go for the damage race. He just been hit by a Kajarah for 1 damage and could go up and smash the Johktari with her 3 dice (Priest would have been better here?) With Brogan and a Guardian Angel, reinforcement to come and the perfect tools to deal with Cervere (Tanglevine/Pillar of Righteous Flame/Chant of Rage)
Easy now to dismiss the Chant of rage to be to early and to obvious (better in the QC than the round before) but kudos to Jacksmack for preparing a Dispel. Guessing What Schneente was up to.
Even after that is was a close match, according to Schneente he could have used his Force Push to get protection from his Guardian Angel.
Oh and I mentioned that Ehren was overpowered. That not true if the opponent uses Deathlock :)

#Minds Eye

#Thornlasher
#Enchanters Ring
#Thoughtspore
Another Mind Eyes using FM. This time failed to put hard pressure on the opponent.
Giving up real quick - but maybe it was game over?
Enchanters Ring felt like a waste here, at least it would have been better to take 2 spellbook points worth of something else, rather than use enchanters ring only once.
Maybe Battleforge don´t belong in FM? (i have one in my current version) or maybe it can wait, so you better can apply early pressure?

So before i go back home and re-watch the rest of this video let me just say a few things.
I think Keejchen "butchered" his opening. Normally he would go for Mana Siphon and something cheap like Leather Chausses at r 2. He might have gotten a couple of Fireballs in the face round 2 or something, but that 2 mana would likely mean that jacksmack would not have been able to apply quite as much pressure on keejchen early.
And jacksmack did apply early pressure - no sitting back there.
I feel i and others can learn a lot about early aggressive play from watching Jacksmack play.

All the running, movement, Force Pushes and Teleport! Its just a 4x3 square arena!
Hope to see more matches from you both soon :)
#22 Johktari (Powlich) Vs. Thesaris (Druid)1:25
#Lair
#Felella
#Maim Wings
#Thornlasher
#Outcreatured
#Bloodspine Wall
#Wall of Thorns
Another example of really good aggressive play early on.
Thesaris as the Druid - went for a round 1 Felella, and i kind really blame him. With Felella i your deck youll want her early and up against a nature mage you would hate to see your opponent cast Felella.
Powlich killed Felella real fast. I usually struggle a lot with that. Maim Wings+Falcon Precision and a buffed up mage made it seem easy. Earlier in the tournament we saw an enchantment on Felella being an "obvious" Chant of Rage, but here Coshade called it. If Thesaris had seen it, he might have reacted to it.
Coshade made a comment "You focus at the Lair so much, you just lose the game" i think that happened here.
Losing Felella + wasting time on the Lair i think it was to much. Thesaris did a pretty good job after that killing several creatures, but it is hard to catch up.
#23 Johktari (Aridigas) vs Arraxian Crown Warlock (DrMambo23)/1:02/7 rounds
#Battleforge
#Spawnpoint
#Outcreatured
#Ring of Curses
So pretty fast game this one!
Aridigas came with a "simple" but very effective plan. Put up a Central Zone Lair - use Meditation Amulet. Pump out a creature each round. Then cast a Battleforge to get equipment out.
It might be simple and seen before, but as i said: Very good!
DrMambo did not have the counters for this. Playing without a creature spawnpoint vs one is often quite hard, as they get reinforcement more or less automatic and you do not.
I think Warlock could have done better had he tried to stay a bit away from Lair and the Meditation Zone. Summon Drokarr and whatever creatures you have. Use Ring of Curses/Enchanters Ring/Morlochs Torment/Battleforge and then try to draw your opponent creatures to you - with Chant of Rage or something, then maybe if you have Rise Again, you could get Zombie Falcons/Wolfs army.
At the very least you could get the Johktari to either "meditate out of position" or give up meditate to do something about it.
#24 Schneente (Anvil Throne Warlord) vs. Werekingdom (Arraxian Crown)/3:17/26
#Battleforge
#Wandgame
#Stonegaze Basilisk
#Hurl Rock
#Jet Stream
#Acid Ball
Another real strong spellbook from Schneente. Tuff Dwarf with Wands and Equipment add Ballista and the nice Elemental Wand with Jet stream on it. (add Akiro´s Favor + Gale Force Ring and even Puddinhead might rely on getting that push effect)
Werekingdom´s Arraxian Crown Warlock seemed pretty good also. Like Schenkgoot and Florian in the video im not convinced about the merits of Stonegaze Basilisk. The Dwarfs tuff -2 just makes that cripple hard to get even with a reroll. Staying in range of the Ballista to summon Basilisk and a Battleforge seemed a bit risky to me.
After one Balista shot i think a move out of Ballista range and just play enchanters Ring and Regrowth would have been good. Then summon creatures.
This would still have given The Anvil Throne Warlord time to equip all kinds of annoying equipment from Battleforge so it might not work.
The Anvil Throne Warlord went for early pressure damage on the Warlock and put a lot of damage on him, but we saw just how much damage he can take and still be OK. The Anvil Throne Warlord isn't that great outside range of his own Battleforge, but its hard to keep him there.
#25 Keejchen (Bloodwave Warlord) Vs. Grimmbart (Bloodwave Warlord)/4:13/27
#Bloodwave Warlord
#Ballista
#Battleforge
#Barracks
#Equipment
#Creatures
#Pillar of Righteous Flame
Another mirrormatch! This time two Bloodwave Warlords, but very different in style.
Keejchen played an equipment Warlord, much like a few of the Anvil Throne Warlords we have seen.
Champions Guantlets, Wands, Armor and tons of equipment.
Must say it reminds me of Wizard - Warlords throwing Teleports and Dispel every round. Ballista reminding me a lot of Wizard Tower - only firing every second round, but still pretty good.
Grimmbarts Warlord was creature based. Construction Yard + Battleforge then Barracks + Meditation Amulet to pay for everything. Pretty scary economy.
Keejchen got somewhat lucky in round 2 were his Ballista one-shot the Battleforge then continued to change spells on his Elemental Wand, binding Fireball to it and going after Grimmbarts Barrack.
He almost got it and that might just have been the end of it. Looked like Keejchen could have dispelled the reinforce on Barracks, before Grimmbart walled of.
Also i didnt see round 1, but Keejchen Battleforge was placed in C1 an unfortunately place when you are in B2 and have to go to A2 to shoot at the Barracks in A4. Your out of range of your own Battleforge.
Take round 3. Keejchen played Champion Gauntlets form his Battleforge, changed spell on his Elemental Wand (Surging wave?) to Fireball and went to A2 and threw a Fireball at the Barrack. Casting a new Elemental Wand from the Battleforge and QC either Hawkeye or Akiro´s Favor would have improved the chances of taking down Barrack, but being out of range from his Battleforge then Keejchen wouldnt be able to protect his Elemental Wand with the Gauntlets. I think i would have risked it - as it would have required Grimmbart to run 2 (giving up Meditate) running into Ballista rnage and hardcast a dissolve.
Anyway Walls, reinforce, defend on Panzarguard saved the Barrack and when Altar of Domination came down and Talos came out it looked pretty grimm :) for Keejchen.
Pillar of Righteous changed everything. I do think Grimmbart played way to passive here, staying away and doing nothing for to many rounds. Keejchen still had his Fireball Wand and could just stay at range 2 and kill Grimmbarts army.
#26 Aridigas (Wizard) vs MrBubu (Straywood)/2:17/16 rounds
Another cool and interesting game
#Super squad
#Grizzly sacrifice
#Dragonclaw Wolverine
#Playing without a spawnpoint
#Elephant Grass
#Win or Lose
Aridigas opened with a pretty terrifying super squad: Gorgon Archer, Water Elemental and Alandell.
MrBubu opened with Ring of Beast and a Grizzly. Then continued with Mana Flowers, Meditation Amulet and a Pet Wolverine. But he did sacrifice his Grizzly letting him go up and fight the super squad all alone - all the damage he put on the Gorgon was easily regenerated, so frankly i thought Mr Bubu had lost the game already.
But he made a nice comeback - getting good use out of the Pet Dragonclaw Wolverine and Elephant Grass were most of the fighting took place.
It ended up with a very standard situation. Mr Bubu had killed all of Aridigas creatures and had 3 himself, but had taking 20 something damage. So could Aridigas get the last damage through or would Mr Bubu recover and kill Aridigas instead?
Ending felt close and i think this game could easily have went the other way.
#27 Aridigas (Paladin) vs. CapredbeardIV (Bloodwave Warlord)/53(+30)/10 rounds
#Spawnpoints
#Paladin
#Bloodwave Warlord
#Bridge Troll
This was one of those matches i remembered as "why you don´t play without a creature spawnpoint"
But im still not 100% convinced - after all we have seen a lot of matches were mages without a creature spawnpoint worked just fine. Arraxian Crown Warlock comes to mind but Sharkbaits Paladin did really well vs. Dr Mambo´s Druid and so did Jacksmacks Johktari vs Schneente´s Priestess.
Here i think the Bridge Trolls did to little - main idea seemed to set up a hill with Grimson and Ballista, but id didnt work well. First Troll was Teleportsnatched then Grimson was Force Pushed down the hill and killed.
It might have worked if Cap had tried to set up at range 3 - maybe with a wall and Archers Watchtower - or put Hurl Meteorite on an Elemental Wand.
#28 Schneente (Siren) vs Keejchen (Paladin)/4:51/23 rounds
#PvS
#Turtle
#Spawnpoints
#Tsunami
#Who decides where we fight?
#Sherean Leviathan
#Mage Wands
#Champion Gauntlets
Well another really good match - this time with the two newest arena mages: Siren and Paladin
Schneente (Siren) ran a spellbook with heavy dude mainly Water Elemental and Leviathan (+backup)
Mana Flower, Naiya, Shallow Sea, Echo and Meditation Amulet.
Keejchen (Paladin) ran Temple of Asyra (Harmonized) and more creatures than i normally see. A lot more.
With Battleforge, Goblin Builder and Cassiel he also had more spawnpoints and familiars than normally seen.
This match took almost 5 hours. Interesting enough they played the first 7 rounds in 44 min then round 8-11 took 90 min!
Im sure a lot of if was new cards as there were some rule issues like: Guarding a creature with hate and a Chant of raged creature, Flyers hitting non-flyers in shallow sea, the Paladins Auras, Sherean Leviathan abilities.
Besides rolling/resolving a Tsunami take a bit longer than rolling/resolving a Hurl Boulder.
I think Schneente should have waited a bit before advancing - meditate and take out both Water Elementals and the Leviathan first then do the Tsunami thing.
The Tsunami was cool and looked like it put Siren back in the game. I think the Water Elemental should have gone for the isolated Ehren instead of into the Paladin zone. With Lifelink on Ehren thats likely to do 3 damage on the Paladin for a while. After the game its easy to agree. Keejchen got a lot of valor early out of punching and damaging the Water Ele - enough to put out an early retribution aura.
Siren was pushed and im still wondering if pushing her into a wall might have been a good idea?
When you plan to summon the Leviathan next round that is. His slow and having him in the Paladin´s starting zone might have been better?
After that Keejchen made a small attack when he attacked with his Messinger of Bim-Shalla into a Shallow Sea with Leviathan (No more Flying) In that round the Siren could have hit that MoBS and most likely kill it. Rather than Meditate and then have Naiya cast a Chant of Rage on that same MoBS.
Another small thing was not revealing Ballad of Courage when Keejchen had a Mage Wand with Seeking Dispel out.
Id also liked earlier use of the Sirens call - something that could deny Keejchen of fighting in the Temple of Asyra square or those withing range 1 of it. One idea would be to use Elemental Wand with Tsunami. If you stay put in A3 and cast a Tsunami every second round in A4, B4 and C4 i doubt it be long before Keejchen would react to that.
If we speaking of spellbook improvements an extra Tsunami would have been real good in this game.
For Keejchen id like meditation Amulet - with double spawnpoints and 3 spellcasters you just can´t be to "greedy"
I really recommend this game for anyone trying to become really good vs Siren. I think she´s difficult but have great potential. Leviathan is only a promo atm, but Battle fury on him for 7-8 dice + 7 piercing 2? :)
Im not sure how effective defend was - but watching something like that makes me think about how i could use defend.
#29 Powlich (Arraxian Crown Warlock) vs Parkdeck (Priestess)/2:22/16 rounds
#Deathlock
#Curse
#Unicorn
#Healing
#Range
#Single fine
#Arraxian Crown Warlock
#Priestess
Mystery already commented on this: "Watching parkdeck/powlich i see only bad play by the priestess up to 60min at least, dont want to offend anyone, but a magewand with dispel/disperse/remove curse to PERMANENTLY remove the ghould rots (even though there is a wardstone, just skip casting a creature once), which forces powlich to react and get close again, and the bit of dmg he took from the griffin with deathlock out hurts, with deathlock he cant heal himself, ghoul rots gone (2 easily if powlich wouldnt react even more) he cant use deathlink as no healing etc.
would be cool to know the deck of parkdeck, if it was just bad play or a bad deck
Hard to judge powlichs play if your oponent doesnt really do anything against your play"
Its hard for me to disagree with this.
Powlich played a curse deck with massive Ghoul Rot, Wardstones and the a starting zone Deathlock.
Immediately shifted gears w Parkdeck destroyed Deathlock.
Managed to stay at range putting curses on and then go up and then deal with the enemy creatures 1 by 1.
Parkdeck played a Unicorn book. Almost all his creatures had some kind off healing ability, so he was strongly affected by Deathlock. Poor spellbook or bad matchup?
When you put your spawnpoint in the corner + and you stay there w Meditation Amulet and summon 1-2 dice creatures its not odd that you struggle to put on an offense.
Priestess in general can be pretty slow if she wants to turtle and take a long time before she moves forward.
The Deathlock was very likely so i think Consecrated Ground was not the best choice.
Mysterys suggestion is pretty solid - stop summoning every round and do something about the curses. Coshade was also spot on (according to me) attacking single fine with your creatures is rarely a good idea.
Was there anything else that could have been done?
Yes i think so. Ghoul Rot vs Lowland Unicorn is not really a mana win for Powlich - both cost 8 mana - Powlich had Ring of Curse and Sersiryx while Parkdeck had a harmonized Temple.
So if those Unicorns could get 2 dice in vs Sersiryx or the Warlock it looks to me as good enough value for Parkdeck, even if Powlich gets his Curses back in his spellbook.
Another early option would be the classic Asyran Clerics early - they suffer less from Deathlock than most of Parkdecks other creatures. Asyran Cleric should be a better choice vs Deathlock than Highland Unicorn.
And how should Powlich deal with those Clerics? Put Ghoul Rot on a 5 mana creature?
While im talking about sacrificing your holy creatures :) Id would have loved to see a Cassiel sacrifice. After she gets Ghoul Rotted - you could summon Dorseus then Ehren. Let Cassiel use Martyrs Restoration on Ehren and die then heal Ehren w Dorseus.
With Ehren, Dorseus and then the Griffin i think Parkdeck could have mounted an offensive and not care much about the Wardstones and Deathlock.
Even if the Deathlock was and is brutal for the Priestess you shouldn't forget that most Warlock has amazing healing as well.

So that's all the Arcane Duels Videos up to now. We should get 3 to 4 matches more :)
I´ll move to Schwenkgotts channel were i think there is 8 videos from this tourney, but only 6 matches not covered by Arcane Duels. With a bit of luck and effort i can do this by the end of this weekend.
Then i hope to make a summary of what spells were actually cast (and attempted to be cast) during those games.
30 games at 10-12 rounds on average that's 1200+ spells. Actually less with all that running, guarding and smashing stuff with the mages. 1000 spells maybe in 30 games - then again there´s Familiars and Spawnpoints.
Anybody has a better guess?

Pretty sure Aridigas said he opened with harmonized temple and then cleric forge. Could be wrong though.
Tbh. I felt like aridigas got greedy and played a bunch of these double spawnpoints/familar book with meditation amulet. While there not bad by any means, they only shine in super long games when the opponent does not really apply much pressure. Maybe that's the case in Germany? :o
Anyways, interesting strat by both players. I think while CPN played well, his book didn't seem to have the tools to take down all the big creatures.
I think I would using some combination of chant of rage/telewand/force pull etc to seperate the knight and kill those first. Once the DPS is down, the angels can only delay.
-
Double spawnpoint and Meditation Amulet might be greedy, but it did work out pretty good both in this and in Aridigas (Johktari) vs. Dr Mambo (AC Warlock) if i remember correctly.
So i do think that those builds did shine and managed to get gg in ~10 rounds.
Cap idea looked like he wanted to kill everything with Grimson and Ballista, but he coudnt really handle Teleport/Force Push from Aridigas and wasnt really able to apply any pressure.

So i do think that those builds did shine and managed to get gg in ~10 rounds.
Cap idea looked like he wanted to kill everything with Grimson and Ballista, but he coudnt really handle Teleport/Force Push from Aridigas and wasnt really able to apply any pressure.
That's totally fair. Did you see parkdeck vs Aridigas though? Ardigas lost the match I think because he was too greedy.

Concedes
I wouldnt call Aridigas play here gredy at all. He stayed back with his FM and a couple of Thoughtspores and played Battleforge and Meditation Amulet. With Mind´s Eye that should not be a bad strategy.
He only meditated once, he ran forward and tried to take out the tree - failed and conceded.
Id rather say he lost because he didn't have enough (if any) Fire attack spells in his spellbook or that he became impatient or that he did go for early damage on the Druid which is always a hard thing to do.

So im done with Schwenkgotts videos from the ADMW Winter Special :)
Only missing Powlich vs Parkdeck, and then the (unreleased)semifinal vs Keejchen and Powlich.
followed by the final vs Keejchen vs Jacksmack.
Im guessing we won´t have the finals this weekend?
So it will have to wait till after the German nationals 17-18 June 2017.
Live games are nice as well :)
