General Discussion / Re: How are you guys / girls building your decks?
« on: February 04, 2017, 05:12:02 PM »
For holding my collection, I have a binders, with divisions by school. And within each of those they are divided by type. However, I only keep one copy of each card in the binder pages, with a small post-it note on the back of the card (visible also through back of page) with how many more copies are available. The real collection I keep in very same order, but packed into regular card storage boxes you can get from comic shops.

For building my book, I have my own Excel Spreadsheet I use. It's not a fancy SP builder with an archive of all cards, but it is very handy anyways. It does track number of cards and SB points as I enter the data, as well as also tracking the same statistic through each type spell, easily seeing I'm too Enchantment heavy, etc.

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Creatures I would like to see...

I wanted this too for awhile. After playing the different mages over several years as new expansions have come along, now i like that each school emphasizes different traits and effects on in-school creatures. If all schools have access to everything than it would be less thematic to me. YMMV

I still would like at least one. Every single other school has Flying creatures, so already the flying ability is pretty spread out and in-school accessible to all but War.

And not hard to imagine that with the mechanization of War school that there could be some Da Vinci-esque flying harness a Goblin could use. ;D

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Can we get a Tiger please?!
« on: February 02, 2017, 06:14:03 PM »
As an animal in Nature school. Please!

We have leopards, lion, cheetahs, lynx, puma, and everything feline but Tigers

Or maybe they used up all the tigers to make the Academy Beastmaster spellbook covers.  :P

Off topic / Re: Storage for mage wars markers
« on: February 01, 2017, 03:59:48 AM »
I use some locking & stacking trays for the damage and other small tokens.

As for the condition markers, I took the time and split them all in half, added 1.25'' discs punched out from comic boarding and glued to make up the lost weight, and in the end resulted in all entirely single-sided condition markers, making it easy to sort and find.

How hard is this? Could you post instructions?

(looks awesome)

Thank you!
And sure. I can create an instruction set for at least the first draft up top since it's the easiest and pretty much the core of what all the other designs will come from. Then from there anyone can modify it to their liking. And it's easy, don't need too much craft know-how, or can likely get a friend to help. ;)

Just an update!

Got my first Warlock designed cover done. Or rather, mostly. Still a few details and pieces to add such as some sort of embellishment or rune to the front cover, and the bookmark, and the charms/tassel. But otherwise the main construction part is done.

Took a little longer than expected and learned some things for the next designs.

The pockets, while semi-loose, are actually snug and tight when closed and clasped. The markers don't fall out even when handled a bit roughly. Long as it's locked shut.

Next up, possibly a Warlord or Necromancer.

General Discussion / Re: Fix Bloodwave Warlord
« on: November 13, 2016, 02:30:07 AM »
I agree, the Goblin line of soldier creatures are terrible. I honestly do use Skeletal Minions over Goblin Grunts. only 1 mana more to cast, but 2 more health (survivability), is nonliving (immune to some effects), and psychic immune, so can't be dazed/sleep/etc. Which I think for the purpose of the Skeletal minions/Grunts is a massive bonus. Plus being soldier, the skeletal minions still get the Armory bonus of Piercing +1 and Armor +1. It was a very easy choice in my Warlord book.

The Dwarf lines are decent and do use them. And Orcs really could use a couple more.
But it is a school in which I feel too obligated to go out of school for the low level/low mana creatures. particularly Dark for skeletons or Holy for their Knight/Soldiers.

War school really does need more level 1 creatures that are worth any damn.

Creative / Custom Covers, an ongoing project
« on: November 12, 2016, 01:03:33 AM »
Having too many expansions and such begins piling up spellbooks with designs that may not match the theme of most used flavors. And people who I show the game to sometimes don't entirely see the 'point' of the physical spellbook and just suggest carrying the deck around MTG style. A valid choice, but just not in line with the flair I associate myself with (I pimp my games a lot).

This is just a baseline. No flavor or extras really added beside the charm and beads. Each Mage I use will be receiving unique patterns drafted from this base and add accessories as appropriate (pyramid spikes on Warlord? Gems on Wizard? etc). And as evident, these covers are also functional with closures and inner pockets to carry the unique markers and extras.

And after my primary mages, I plan to do covers for my friend's mages as well. And if I can bring myself to, I may even do the unused classes as well. Just for the sake of an art & creative project. So I'll be updating this thread as this whole creative project continues.  ;)

Some time ago I also chimed in another Warlord fixing thread. I believe it's largely his command abilities.

My own main input is that the Battle Orders become free actions. There are plenty of arguments to be made that they take up a precious action, while there are card versions of the commands available, to all mages, at low mana, low points (even novice), and better effects.

Honestly I find myself hardy using a Warlord for his abilities but rather just the strategies and the spells/soldiers available. Only the dwarf Warlord has an ability worth a damn on his card.

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: More Insects/Arachnids pls
« on: October 07, 2016, 05:19:44 PM »
This is all provided that any insects would be real size to scale. But as we see with the wolf spider and scorpion, they are basically fantasy size huge. So they might be less swarm-like if more insects come into play, and much more like 'champions' of their respective species, like maybe another scorpion, a giant mantis, another spider, a dragonfly that's riding sized, etc.

But either way, I agree. More insects subtypes would be very cool.

Rules Discussion / Multiple Counterstrike effects?
« on: July 23, 2016, 05:55:10 AM »
I know a Mage can only have one Damage Barrier, but with the release of the Warlock Academy expansion, two new pieces of equipment seem to potentially stack.

Burning Cuirass (chestpiece): Armor +1 and first time mage is melee attacked in a round, attacker receives 1 direct flame damage during counterstrike.

Cloak of Fire (Cloak): Whenever melee attacked, during counterstike roll effect die. 7+ gives a burn condition to attacker if they don't have a burn already.

Now what happens if the mage also enchants self with Circle of Fire damage barrier on top of all this?

Does Mage pick only one of these affects to trigger during counterstrike step? Or will all three abilities go in a sequence where appropriate?

Resources and Downloads / Re: Wizard and Wizard's Tower Errata
« on: July 05, 2016, 06:00:59 PM »
I think the Wizard Card errata is a good direction. Really does open up current mages more and leaves room for future classes. And it's very true that a _____ Wizard could very much take strategies and non-exclusive spells from nearly any other mage that has an elemental training (Warlock's Fire, Warlord's Earth, etc). Good to see that copying another mage will come at a much more reasonable cost.

As for the Tower, I did always think it was a rather OP in more than one detail, but only time will tell if the new method is the right direction.

Instead of the usual "+2 vs undead," what if it were "Critical Damage vs Undead"?  Now THAT would strike fear into zombies... well, perhaps not the zombies themselves, since they're psychic immune, but I imagine Necromancers would be much more fearful of holy mages.

+Dice vs undead is more consistent with what we already have. An all-critical damage effect across 4+ dice is close to an I-win button.
