Spellbook Builder / New beta November 25th
« on: November 25, 2013, 08:49:56 PM »
I folks

I've posted a new beta of the Mage Wars Spellbook Builder for everyone to try.

http://wp.arcanewonders.com/mw/

As usual, please force refresh your browser so you get the most up-to-date version of the CSS and JS files.

Changes/fixes
Updated with new cards. Should be the most recent version of card. If not please post a bug
Rajan's Fury now included

New Features
Forum Code export so you can post your spellbooks to the forum just like my sample
Spell type filter is now a drop down
Fixed sizes of columns in tables

Next up will be a rewrite of the card preview code to make it match the format used for the forum. So it will display the card in a rollover event and not on a click

Website Support and Feedback / New BBCode
« on: November 17, 2013, 09:17:39 PM »
Hey guys

As part of the SBB you will be able to post your spellbooks into the forum and have people view them and also view the cards.

To that end I have updated the forum's BBCode for the preview. Can people test to make sure that the previews appear and disappear when you mouse over them?

Some examples of the cards is the [mwcard=MWSTX1CKQ01]Sunfire Amulet[/mwcard].

There is also the [mwcard=MWSTX1CKJ02]Wizard's Tower[/mwcard] and [mwcard=FWE04]Force Crush[/mwcard].

Thanks

Spellbook Builder / Update
« on: November 14, 2013, 07:27:20 PM »
Hi folks

Just an update on the progress on the next beta.

I have added:

Full names for card type
Fixed Novice error (for good this time I hope)
Filter card types via drop down
Added + button to spellbook table

What is slowing the process down is that the drop down menu is breaking the rest of the filtering and I need to fix that bug before I can release a new version. Hopefully I will have that done tomorrow and I can have a new version up for testing this weekend.

After that I will be looking at reworking the card preview system. Any suggestions about that are appreciated

Spellbook Builder / New beta posted
« on: November 12, 2013, 07:15:21 PM »
A new version of the beta has been posted.

http://wp.arcanewonders.com/mw/

It fixes the following

Quote
If you change the values of the Spellbook Set before starting a spellbook using the New command then the Card List table will not work correctly. Until this is fixed please do not change those settings until you start a spellbook

Novice cards currently generate an error when trying to add them "You can't add this type as you need to be the following type of  Mage: Novice"

There are two copies of Seeking Dispel

Samandriel, Cervere and Goran are not included in Core

Level 1 spells limited to 4 instead of 6

Warlord not paying correct cost for Arcane spells

Forcemaster paying too much for nn-Mind creatures

If you are still seeing these issues please force refresh your page and clear your browser cache.

Spellbook Builder / Spellbook Builder public beta
« on: November 11, 2013, 02:05:02 PM »
Welcome to the public beta of the Arcane Wonders Spellbook Builder. The SBB is a Javascript application that runs in your browser to allow you to create, edit and save spellbooks for Mage Wars.

You can find there Spellbook Builder here

http://wp.arcanewonders.com/mw/

All files are saved externally to your hard-drive and are read via your web browser. No files are saved on the Arcane Wonders server so you will need to keep track of your own save files.

In addition to saving files in its own format, the application will also export XML, text and CSV formats. We have plans for other export formats and those will be added in a future release including a forum-specific export format so you can post your spellbooks to the forum.

The application uses a significant amount of Javascript and consequently you will need to be running an up-to-date browser. The latest versions of Safari, Chrome and Firefox should work and anyone running IE10 or better should have no issues. The application has been tested using IE9 but have not been tested under IE 8. Anything older than IE8 will definitely not work.

As this is a public beta test there will be bugs and issues that need to be addressed.

If you find a bug please post it to the forum

http://forum.arcanewonders.com/index.php?topic=13222.0

If you have a feature request there is also a thread for that

http://forum.arcanewonders.com/index.php?topic=13223.0

The application is not feature complete. There are several features that are going to be worked on and added to the public beta as we continue to develop and get more feedback from gamers. Currently you can open and save spellbooks, export them and build spellbooks using cards and Mages from the Core, FvW and CoK expansions. The DvN expansion will be added soon.

The public beta is an opportunity for us to get help from you to make sure the application is robust and also meets your needs. As such we've developed the core functionality for the application to get that tested as soon as we can and we will continue to tweak and modify the application based on your input.

Spellbook Builder / How to use the Spellbook Builder
« on: November 10, 2013, 08:30:08 PM »
Some tips on using the online Mage Wars Spellbook Builder

To start a new spellbook select "New..." from the "Spellbook" menu. In the dialog enter in a name and select a Mage

To change the cards you have access to click on the "Spellbook Sets" tab and then use the drop down menus to indicate the number of each expansion you own

To change the name of the spell book you are editing click on the name in the "Spellbook Details" tab.

To preview your Mage's abilities click on the Mage name in the "Spellbook Details" tab.

To preview a card click on the card name in either the Spellbook or Card List table.

To close a preview click on the name again.

In the Card List table you can filter the number of cards shown by entering in text in the fields at the bottom of the table. Each field will filter the cards based on your criteria as it is applied to that column. So if you want to find all the Holy Warriors then you would enter "Holy" in the School filter field and then "soldier" in the Subtype filter field.

You can also use the search field at the top of each table to filter the tables based on data in every field.

To save your spellbook select "Save" from the "Spellbook" menu. This will save a file called <spellbook name>.sbb to your Downloads folder or wherever you have your browser set to save files. On the Mac using Safari you will get a file with an added .text extension. This is a "feature" in Safari.

To load a file select "Load..." from the "Spellbook" menu. From the resulting dialog select your .sbb file and it will clear your current spellbook and load the new one.

To export the spellbook to another format select that format from the "Export" menu. The file (either .xml, .csv or .txt) will be saved in your Downloads folder or wherever you have your browser set to save files.

Website Support and Feedback / Spellbook Builder tournament export format
« on: September 08, 2013, 12:54:03 PM »
My next task is to do the export functions for the SBB.

What format and information do people think will be useful for a tournament checklist/spellbook list?

Work is progressing on the new Spellbook Builder.

Just a quick question for people who used the previous one

http://mw-deck-builder.herokuapp.com

Did anyone use the CSV or PDF export options? Or the upload feature?

Are there any other export features you would have liked to see in that app?

Just testing the upcoming BBCodes for Mage War cards.

If you are not able to see the cards pop up when you mouse over the underlined links then please post your browser, version and OS so I can try to fix the issue.

Some examples of the cards is the [mwcard=MWSTX1CKQ01]Sunfire Amulet[/mwcard].

There is also the [mwcard=MWSTX1CKJ02]Wizard's Tower[/mwcard].

I am currently working on an add-on to the post editor to allow you to select a card from any of the sets and enter it into a post.
