Round 1: Summon Grizzly and equip yourself with enchanter's ring.
Round 2: Enchant Grizzly with Rhino Hide and Divine Protection. Move grizzly towards enemy mage.
Round 3: qc nullify on the grizzly and either another enchantment on him, or summon a falcon, or use some other utility spell to help grizzly to attack the enemy mage as soon as he can.

After that you want to put the following enchantments on the grizzly (not necessarily all of them and not necessarily in this order): regrowth, bear strength, vampirism, cheetah speed, mongoose agility and eagle wings. You also want to summon your Thunderift Falcon pet and attack the enemy mage with it too, as well as with your own mage's basic melee attack.

What do you think?

Have fun with it!

Buddy/Pet builds look fun, but I would say such an acutely focused one is quite a bit of an all-eggs-in-one-basket approach.

I think once your opponent casts purge magic on your grizzly, the beastmaster is toast.

@ludicium It's more like the difference between making a couple of very strong eggs and making a dozen weaker ones. Both approaches have their strengths and weaknesses.

@RavePig That's why I have nullifies and jinxes and extra copies of enchantments. I'll make it difficult for them to cast purge magic, and if they succeed I punish them for it. You don't want to let up on the aggression with this deck.

Hey, what happened with Cervere? I think the last time I lost against this deck it was Cervere instead of the Grizzly, wasn't it? :)

I think a Wizard could do this better  ;D

Your using a lot of arcane spells + 2x6 points for the Fireballs and 4 spell points for the Elemental Wand.
and your almost not going to use the Beastmaster´s quick summoning ability.

Even Warlock could be better with [mwcard=MW1C26]Necropian Vampiress[/mwcard] or something like that.

Still its a nice buddy build, and I'm a big fan of the Grizzly!

Well damn. Wizard can use this spellbook for 2 points less than beastmaster. And if i use warlock with necropian vampiress, then I don't need vampirism or eagle wings. On the other hand, it will cost a full action to summon another creature to add extra dice. But it gives me five extra points I can use for curses. And then I have less innate attack dice nor piercing for my buddy creature. And the vampiress can still be tanglevined. Hmmm...

Well trying to improve the Beastmaster version I would switch the 2 Fireballs, the Elemental Wand and Mordock´s Obselisk for something more "beasty".

Its 20 spellpoints.

[mwcard=MW1Q13]Ivarium Longbow[/mwcard] 4
Hawkeye 1
2 Feral Bobcats 2
2 Bitterwood Fox 2
Grizzly 4
2 Mana Flower 2

That's 15 spellpoint.

Ivarium Longbow with Hawkeye give you 5 dice piercing 1 - not as good as Fireball but it cost zero mana to use and with few creatures level 2+ you don't need the full summoning much.

The mana flowers would give you another opening option
mana flower
mana flower
pet falcon/bobcat/fox
leather
bow

then get a grizzly out

Doesn't that apply to every spellbook? ;)

I think it is a function of how many spells are used outside of your trained school. The current meta has a toolbox of spells defined that feature many arcane spells. This benefits the Wizard.

So out of curiosity, I just checked all of my non-wizard main spellbooks, and the Frugal Beastmaster is the only one that would cost less book points with a wizard. The decks I've checked include the Frugal Warlock, Sudowoodo (Druid), Eternal Mohktari (Druid), and the latest upcoming version of the Fatigue Forcemaster.

Curiosity question on the Frugal side, how many total spells are in each of your frugal books?
