My apologies about this spellbook being so late. This was the book I used against Coshade when I appeared on Arcane Duels a little while back.

Like I mentioned in my introduction during the video, this book was inspired by Charmyna's Tinker Bell's Angels book. The basic idea was to use [mwcard=MW1C13]Fellella, Pixie Familiar[/mwcard] and my Mage to buff up a [mwcard=MW1C38]Timber Wolf[/mwcard] with a ridiculous amount of enchantments and just go straight for the other Mage. Then when/if that Wolf dies, [mwcard=MWSTX1CKE04]Enchantment Transfusion[/mwcard] everything onto a 2nd wolf and do the same thing. When that one dies, ideally I would transfuse everything again onto a 3rd wolf.

If you've watched the videos, you already know that it didn't exactly work as planned ;D But it was a really fun match. This book has undergone some serious changes since I used it on the video. I toyed around with adding either [mwcard=MW1J19]Deathlock[/mwcard] or [mwcard=MW1E31]Poisoned Blood[/mwcard] to prevent healing, but the biggest change was actually switching over to the Beastmaster instead of the Druid, which caused a revamp of the entire book. As others pointed out, the offensive benefits a Beastmaster provides with his Pet ability and access to some Beastmaster only cards (Packleader's Cowl in particular) outweigh the Druid's advantage defensively.

Regardless though, this was one of the most fun matches I had in a long time and just wanted to thank Coshade and the guys at Arcane Duels for inviting me on. & again, sorry for this being so late.

General Discussion / Academy Written Review
« on: August 15, 2015, 12:01:16 AM »
So I'm back with another review, this time of Academy.

Part 1 -->HERE<--

Part 2 -->HERE<--

Part 3 -->HERE<--

In part 1 I introduce Academy, talk about what comes in the box, and try explaining how to play (although the Arcane Wonders videos put me to shame in that regard).

We then move onto the two new Mages introduced in this set and talk about the equipment and attack spell cards that come in Academy.

I had to do some quick changes at the end but wanted to get this out as soon as I could so everybody could see it. That being said, there may be some mistakes, so feel free to let me know if you find any  :)

Off topic / Can anybody going to Origins do me a HUGE favor?
« on: May 28, 2015, 12:11:43 AM »
So Origins is basically right around the corner, and along with it comes the pre-release of Battlegrounds:Domination. Sadly I won't be attending Origins (it's on my list of game fairs to go to someday).

However, I'm dying to get my hands on Domination and really don't want to wait until July to be able to  :P I don't personally know anybody going to Origins, so I was wondering if anybody here on the forum would be willing to pick up a copy for me if I preorder it and then proceed to ship it to me?

I'd pay for all the shipping costs, obviously, and would shower you with praise and love for all of time! Plus if I ever met you in person, I'd bake you cookies. Or brownies. Or just buy you food. All three are pretty good options  :P

Join Rick, Tox and Aaron in this episode of Mage Wars Monday as we get a history lesson about Etheria!

Take a listen -->HERE<--

Key Points

Demon Wars
The Demonic Invasion

Basically a long time ago, the Demons came from Infernia and took over Etheria. Pellia was the capital of the Demonic Empire. Eventually the people of Etheria rose up to fight against them. Westlock first to rise up against them, Ivarium was 2nd. They eventually pushed back the demons and regained control over Etheria. Now there are a bunch of different "provinces" or "countries" that make up the continent.

Westlock/Ivarium/Pellia
In the present day, Westlock has a King and Ivarium has an Empress. Neither are Mages. Ivarium feels like they are owed more after helping overthrown the Demons. They, and other nations, are jealous of Westlock's wealth and prosperity. Victoria is the capital of Westlock and is a very wealthy city. It has the most grand arena. Ivarium is much larger than Westlock and have a very powerful army. In the OP, Ivarium starts taking over parts of Pellia, which is sandwiched between Westlock and Ivarium. The Forcemaster from OP (who is from Pellia) agrees to help with the problem of the Bloodwave if she in return is given help dealing with the nation of Ivarium taking over her country.

Sortiledge
To the West of Westlock is Sortiledge. They are mostly run by a council who values ability of magic the most. They don't care about family histories, etc. If you are good with magic and can prove yourselves, that is most important. This nation was founded by Elves and is known for their "big white spires". In the past, they have tried to bend nature with magic, which is how the Darkfenne Hydra and other odd creatures were created. Many Wizards are searching for Voltari, an alternate plane of existence where the source of all mana comes from. The nation of Sortiledge likes to prove they are the best, so they have Mages who chose to duel in the arena all the time. Laddinfance is a Wizard like this. He is the Primus (First) of the White Spires. I don't know if that is the council that runs Sortiledge or something else but it sounds important :P

Bloodwave
Northwest of Sortiledge is a sea, across that is the territory of the Bloodwave. The Bloodwave has all sorts of creatures like Goblins, Orcs, Minotaurs, etc. In OP, Trokoth of the Bloodwave has brought all the clans together and united them to Plan to attack Westlock. The BLoodwave hasn't been united in a long time but they can be extremely dangerous when they are. This is why Laddinfance and Malathia the Forcemaster went to try to take out Trokoth and "cut off the head of the snake".

Straywood
Straywood was also founded by Elves. It's kinda in between the nations we have already talked about. The Druids are from a forest on the East edge of Straywood, called Wichwood. The Beastmasters send emissaries to the Arena.

Arraxian Crown
The Arraxian Crown is a secret organization in society. People know it exists but nobody really knows who is part of it. The Warlocks are allowed to partake in the Mage Wars. Mages are protected when going to and from the Arena when doing battle which is why the other people don't just kill them for being evil and all that. Not that that hasn't happened occasionally (I would imagine it has), but they are protected by law.

Battles in the Arena are both sport-like and political. For common folk, it is simply sport. But for important figures like Kings, rulers, and other high-ranking members of the other nations, it is quite political as well.

Non Lore
The first Mage Wars novel, Mage Wars:Nature of the Beast is to be released in April.

PvS is still scheduled for this year. It was announced too early, which is why it is taking so long.

General Discussion / Level 99 Crossover Cards
« on: January 08, 2015, 08:16:14 PM »
Two cards have been shown as crossovers from level 99 games. They will be promos given away at upcoming events and will be released in a set later.

Both these cards are actually really good. Gerard talks about Pirate type creatures, so there must be some of those coming in the future at some point.

General Discussion / MW Battlegrounds Domination Spoilers
« on: October 26, 2014, 03:56:20 PM »
Okay well by now it should be well known that PvS isn't really that close to coming out. The next thing up to be released is MW Battlegrounds, so this will be a thread where I cover information as it gets released, including cards, what's included, how it will be played, and other stuff. Feel free to speculate or post ideas.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • Battlegrounds is a new type of Mage Wars expansion. The past expansions are "Arena" expansions.
  • It will be the next expansion to be released. Release date is June/July
  • It is called "Battlegrounds:Domination" and will include "Domination Mode", a new way to play the game where instead of having to kill the enemy Mage to win, you can instead capture "Power Orbs" and somehow use them to win the game.
  • You could still also win by simply killing the other Mage.
  • The "Power Orbs" had guardians, called a "Ssslaak".
  • These creatures had 2 armor, 8 health, and a quick attack of 4 dice.
  • They would only attack you if you attacked them. Hence, they were on guard all the time. They were also bound to the zone with the Power Orb, so they couldn't be pushed or teleported out of said zone.
  • Battlegrounds will have a Modular board. It will be puzzle-cut pieces that you will be able to use to make any shape arena you desire.
  • There will also be official multiplayer rules. Everybody knows that the rules for multiplayer that came in the base rulebook aren't the most comprehensive rules in the world. So hopefully Battlegrounds can help change that.
  • There will be more spells that come out in Battlegrounds as well. All are useable in both Domination and Arena, but some are made specifically for Domination and therefore won't be as useful in the original game.

I can't talk about the stuff going behind the scenes in playtesting but the list above is the information that has been publicly released and I will keep this list updated as we learn more. If I have missed anything, feel free to let me know but please also direct me to the source so I can verify it as being true and not just speculation.

General Discussion / AW on DFW Nerd Night (Pics of upcoming stuff)
« on: October 23, 2014, 03:42:56 PM »
Mr. Bryan Pope and Mr. Scott "Tox" Morris were both on a live hangout with Dallas - Fort Worth Nerd Night yesterday.

The video can be seen -->HERE<--

Highlights include a discussion and play of Sheriff of Nottingham, talking about the second product of the Dice Towers Essentials line, City of Gears, and of course, Mage Wars stuff. Check out the video, it was pretty awesome.

Some screenshots of MW stuffs:

Apparently this spell above is in Battlegrounds and turns the power orb into a tower that pushes away enemy creatures.

This one was said to be called "Astral Anchor" and it works against teleport!

Bryan said this was a "cascading force push" and said it was basically a force push that kept going and going and going.

He said this was "Empowered mending" which lets you use the power you get from the orbs to heal your creatures.

This one makes one of your creatures stronger as long as it's in the same zone as an orb you're trying to protect.
