Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Adramelech Face Melter
« on: October 09, 2014, 10:11:19 AM »
What are you going to do vs someone who someone who summons [mwcard=MW1C01]Adramelech, Lord of Fire[/mwcard]                                                                                                                            Poo your pants like the rest of us?

Even minor creatures like [mwcard=MW1C15]Firebrand Imp[/mwcard] and [mwcard=MW1C16]Flaming Hellion[/mwcard] seems like you would be force to ignore those?

Naturally you have weaknesses vs all things anti-flame (Flame -2, Burnproof, Flame immune conjurations)

Excellent vs Druid, not so hot (forgive me) vs Warlock.
I'm pretty sure his reaction is to smile at how much mana they invested and then melt the enemy mages face before Adramelech can do anything significant.  He cost 24 and swings for 6 dice plus burns and can't attack the turn he is summoned.  That means if Adramelech is summoned round 2 he has not even broke even with straight fireballs until at least round 6.  By then the match is probably over.  Adramelech is too slow.

You might be right. I thought i´d would be a auto-win for the male Warlock here with Lord Of Fire.

I tried to looked into it:

ADRAMELECH FACE MELTER                                                                          LORD OF TERROR

19 Hawkeye 1                                                                                          19 Enchanters Ring 2
    Ring of Curses 2                                                                                       Cheetah Speed 1
    Move 1                                                                                                     Move 1

25 Fireshaper Ring 3                                                                                 25 Lord of Fire 24
     Adramelechs Touch 4                                                                                Bear Strenght 1
     Move 1                                                                                                    Move 1

26 Marked For Death 5                                                                              9  Ring of Curses 2
     Fireball 8                                                                                                 Shift enchantment  1
     Reveal Hawkeye 1                                                                                    Reveal Bear Srength 3
                                                                                                                   Reveal Cheetah Speed 3

     10 dice attack                                                                                          8 dice attack

19                                                                                                           9

This is hardly a laughing matter for the Adramelech Facemelter. The Lord of Terror is somewhat behind here in mana and deal lesser damage. Lesser chance to get a burn and no way to keep the opponent burning like the facemelter but he has 5 more hp from the beginning and he has one more action each round. The Facemelter has a 10 mana lead here but the Lord of Terror has a 0 mana cost attack so thats probably going to change.

Is Lord of Terror really far behind here?

Looks nice.

I really like using a lot of enchantments, so this seems like something i should try!

Tx for posting, as always your opening my eyes to new and interesting ideas.

(like the heavy use of enchantment transfusions)

Rules Discussion / Staff of Stoms. What does "you" mean
« on: October 04, 2014, 01:53:41 PM »
So i just got my hand on the promo Card: Staff of Storms  ;D

"Each upkeep Phase place a storm token on Staff of Storms up to a maximum of 4. Whenever you make a wind or lightning attack, during the Roll Dice Step you may remove any number of Storm tokens to roll 1 additional attack die, and gain +1 to the effect die roll, per token removed"

Who is "you"? or rather will this only work for my mage attacks or for all my creatures, equipment and conjurations?

Examples:
[mwcard=MW1C40]Whirling Spirit[/mwcard]

[mwcard=MW1Q08]Elemental Wand[/mwcard]

[mwcard=MWSTX1CKJ02]Wizard's Tower[/mwcard]

[mwcard=FWC13]Selesius, the East Wind[/mwcard]

Finally: How would [mwcard=MW1A02]Chain Lightning[/mwcard] Work?
I understood it as 9 dice then potentially 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, but i´ve seen it explained somewere as 9-4-3-2-1

Edit: What about enchanments/damage barriers?:

[mwcard=MW1E06]Circle of Lightning[/mwcard]

Interesting idea!

Might work with Battle Forge instead of Lair?

Battle Reports, Spellbooks and pics coming up?  :P

Whenever i go to a boardgameevent i usually bring some of my Mage Wars gear (even when the chances are quite remote for get a game going)

As i don´t have a car, bringing 2 arenas and 8+ spellbooks does become a bit unhandy and heavy. And then im not bringing unused spellcards or apprentice spellbooks..

Im also interested in how you sort and storage the different markers? (and similar like sleeving you Cards)

Im trying to find two smaller boxes (Cigarboxes?) One for damage- , manamarkers, dice and actionmarkers. The other for the rest of the markers which i don´t sort pre- or postgame.

So in the box ill bring a couple of arenas, a ton of markers and rulebooks, expansionrules and try to fit two smaller boxes in there. The spellbooks im carrying in a backpack

Links and pic´s appreciated!

Alternative Play / Re: Any suggestions for three player games?
« on: September 23, 2014, 05:29:50 AM »
I think there are a couple of other threads around recommending that each player wins if they kill the person on their left....

This could be ok.

What about starting positions?

And how many arenas? (the hexagonal might be better)

Alternative Play / Any suggestions for three player games?
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:54:05 AM »
We have had a couple of times when we are three players left and rather that let one sit and watch or plav 1v1v1 "free for all" we tried to let one player play two games at once. However it has proven to taxing for us.

So any ideas that Work well for three players?

2v2 with one player controlling 1 side or

2v1 were the single player is given advantages (free conjurations, two Lord of Fire ready to go, or something like that)

I build this after watching all of Charmyna´s The Thorny Magician videos.

Even if this spellbook is without Huginn the concept stays the same: pushing my opponent through a Wall of Thorns untill he dies  :)

Battle Forge   8
Mana Crystal  5

(18+1) Turn 2:
Enchanter´s Ring 2
Gorgon Archer     16
enchantment        1

Then i will cast cheap equipment and enchantments to save some mana for the Wall of Thorns + Force Push.

Any comments, thoughts and suggestions are highly welcome.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: How important is equipment?
« on: September 19, 2014, 07:37:45 AM »
Im thinking of any mage that would consider go into melee:
Johktari Beastmaster
Priest
Warlord (probably the dwarf with all the runes)
Warlock
Wizard

I don´t know much about Druid, Forcemaster, Necromancer.

But for example that Push-Bow Druid Spellbook, might be an example with the 11 mana [mwcard=MWSTX1CKQ02]Hunting Bow[/mwcard].

I could see a Gunslinger Wizardspellbook with a [mwcard=MW1Q19]Mage Wand[/mwcard] and an [mwcard=MW1Q08]Elemental Wand[/mwcard], coming out firing every round, but thats probably only a fantasy :) I guess you could play a Blasting Banker like that..

Strategy and Tactics / How important is equipment?
« on: September 19, 2014, 05:31:56 AM »
Im considering opening with a double [mwcard=MW1J04]Battle Forge[/mwcard] at turn 1. (not vs. a Warlord)

I might even harmonize both.

The one being used to bring out cheap equipment each round, and the other every 2nd or 3rd round for the more expensive stuff.

Is this a horrible idea?

I guess i could just ask: How important is equipment? (and actions)

This would probably only be relevant for spellbooks with very few or no creatures.

Is there a reason you don´t have a single [mwcard=FWJ02]Archer's Watchtower[/mwcard] in your spellbook?

In the scenario you described, where someone tries to hide behind a wall it should be usefull.

825
Thanks again for posting the videos and posting here after. I really appreciate it!  :)

Maybe you should try a surviver theme?, so that the winning mage countinues until he/she is defeated?

It would be interesting to see what kind of mages/spellbooks your opponents would build to counter your Priest.

And to see what changes you would make to the spellbook, your strategy and follow the developing meta.

Theoretically it should be impossible to keep winning, if your opponents know all your tricks in advance, and you don´t know much about him/her.
