Title: Pally Banner Opening
Post by: Reddicediaries on February 23, 2017, 02:22:20 PM
I've been thinking of a pally opening something like this
T1: Flower and regrowth or bear strength
T2: Banner and Hand of bim
T3: Deploy blue knight and ehren use martyr's and bim on eheren.
Gets 2 very strong creatures on the board fast. Blue knight can be replace with artemius.
Thoughts?

Your opening simply wastes the banner unnecessarily.

At the end of R3 you have 1 mana left and Ehren is not completely healed.

Compare :
R1 19 Meditating Monk - Mana Crystal
R2 20+1 Hand of Bim Shalla - Ehren - Hand on Ehren
R3 21+1 Hand on Ehren - Martyr's Retribution on Ehren - Alandell

At the end of R3 this opening has 6 mana left, Ehren is Healthy and I still have the Banner available.

Good point borg! I do think vs spawnpoint mages you want to be a tad bit more agressive as you can potentially be overwhelmed.

I agree about this being a waste IF you are staying on your side of the board. Combined with movement, however, it can be modified to put some heavy pressure if you put these guys in the opponents center zone

Well I will likely cast the banner 2 or 3 zones away from my start zone to create a huge threat.

I could of course use both openings for different situations :).

You could use the ring that increases healing as long as it is not from regeneration maybe?

In place of the bear strength or regrowth.  Hmm, so looking at it I can't get it to work with a 15 mana creature cause you need to save 5 mana.. for my method.

Here is how I would see this working.

Turn 1 19 Mana / (Monk) -4 / Move 1 Space (Drop Hand of Bim-Shalla) -5  19 -9 > 10 + 10 > 20 Mana
Turn 2 20 Mana / Altar of the Iron Guard -4 / Move 1 Space (Drop Banner) -7 20 -11 > 9 + 10 > 19 +2 on Banner 21
Turn 3 21 Deployment Ehren -7 and Guardian Angel in Guard -13 / Marty Ehren / Hand Ehren to stop any chip damage on Ehren.

One issue with this opening -- You can't move AND cast Meditating Monk---he's a full action.

Just in case you were thinking about this idea: Martyr's Restoration does not count as healing and will not benefit from the Ring of Healing.

Did you consider using ballista?

My pals and I we have been playing it lately, usually deploying it on turn 2, to very very good results.
