General Discussion / Re: What is the optimal lifelink value for team games?
« on: December 09, 2015, 08:22:42 PM »
Was there any kind of report from team tournament in Germany?

We played with Lifelink +1 there and think it was the right decision. (The goal was to kill one enemy mage.) We feared that Lifelink +2 would take to long for a 90 minutes per round tournament but wanted to have Lifelink for the better team feeling. We had 50 percent of the games finished in those 90 minutes and think that’s the perfect number for 2 vs. 2 tournaments.

Of course, playing in official tournaments is different from playing at home. When thinking about the rules for the tournament we quickly noticed that time will be the biggest enemy, having enough games finishing before the 90 minutes are up was more important than other things.

We’re using the official rules from Battlegrounds Domination, just with the normal board from Mage Wars Arena. Simple reason: Battlegrounds Domination will not be released in Germany till August, also no bigger board because of the tournament time limit. Forcing the Mages to consider the small arena when building the spell books and during play is intended. Because team games need more time for communication during planing and action phases there have to be fewer rounds per game to finish an opponent mage before the time runs out.

It’s the same thing as with normal tournaments: Not every spell book that works great at home is suited for tournament rules (with the 75 minutes limit), so one challenge of tournaments is to make the best of the tournament restrictions :)

On August 15, 2015, we’ll have a special tournament in Germany: The (worldwide first?) 2 vs. 2 team tournament Mage Wars Team Battles. This is an official tournament by the German Mage Wars publisher Pegasus Spiele in Chemnitz (at the Deutsches SPIELEmuseum).

Find a second player, build a mage team, register for the tournament and get ready for epic Team Battles! (And yes, our reigning German Mage Wars Champion will be there too.)

More information in German on Facebook

or in the German Mage Wars Forum

I can’t wait to see you there, you don’t want to miss this tournament! :)

Could you please add the card numbers (e.g. MW1E18) to the spell pages in the details box?

The spell names change in the non-English editions, but the card number stays the same. That would make it easier to find a certain spell if your playing with German cards.

(Bear in mind that there are spells with multiple card numbers because they are contained in different sets.)

Of course! It’s hard with Mage Wars to not get the people like it :)

I did about 40–50 demos, 80–100 players and most really liked it. Got a big number of positive feedback after the demos and many couldn’t wait to buy it and try it at home. And what really surprised me, there where even multiple groups who said they learned Mage Wars from me last year at Essen, instantly bought it and love it. To be honest, I couldn’t even remember which games I tried last year at Essen, let alone who explained them! But it’s those things which really show that Mage Wars is an awesome game and it seems I’m not doing everything wrong with my demos ;)

I was there at the Pegasus booth for 4 days and gave demos on German for 8 hours per day. It was awesome ;)

So if Decoy triggers after Seeking Dispel because it is turned up before it’s destroyed, does Divine Intervention trigger too?

Rules Discussion / Re: Rouse the Beast before Activation Phase
« on: August 21, 2014, 09:28:14 AM »
Thanks, TAGraves, I just wanted to post the question: Could I even do that if I currently have no active creature on the board? (Normally my opponent would have all his remaining Action Phases without my intervention.)

But another question: If my opponent would counter the spell (e.g. with Jinx), could I still pass if my opponent has more active creatures in the arena, even if I have already used the Quick Cast Action? (I’d say no.)

I mean the following situation:

1) My mage’s Action Phase: I summon a creature.
2) Other mage’s Action Phase: Teleports creature in my zone

Am I allowed to now:
3a) Quick cast Rouse the Beast on my creature
3b) Activate that creature to attack?

Rules Discussion / Rouse the Beast before Activation Phase

Hi, I’m once again redirecting a question from the German Mage Wars forum to be completely sure:

Is it possible to cast Rouse the Beast with the Quick Cast Action before the Action Phase and then activate the roused creature?

Or do you need to say which creature you’ll activate before you can do the Quick Cast Action?

Thanks, netzhuffle
