General Discussion / Re: Whose Tokens?
« on: March 29, 2014, 06:32:56 PM »
In a tournament setting, I expect my opponent to bring all the tokens they need, and I do likewise and there's no need to share (though my token container is starting to get a little full).  In a less formal game night, I and others left their tokens with their board as players moved around the room for several matches.  I admit this method takes a bit of trust but I got everything back ok.  Of course, this was also a while back before there were so many mages; now there's no guarantee everyone has the required tokens for every mage (unless they're an addict like me)

I don't know if this card will change my current Warlord opening as I tend to use him with an small elite unit of troops.  That being said, this preview definitely gives me some ideas for a new Warlord spellbook or two.  Can't wait for this set.

I will be back in Philadelphia next month (specifically the 16th) and I am always down for playing some Mage Wars. I'm sure we can find a time to meet up once I'm in town; I should be free most evenings as of now. Also, I tend to travel to Lancaster about once a month if that is better for you.

Very excited for this one.  I can't wait to add it to my Warlord spellbook.  Though I guess I'll have to put it back together first

General Discussion / Re: Mage Wars: intriguing, but also hard to get into
« on: November 26, 2013, 12:20:18 PM »
Yeah, the game can be a little rules heavy, but the basics are simple; the rest just comes with playing overtime.  Also, I found that teaching the game to people really helps to cement the rules (and as an added bonus gives you more people to play with)

So since the #1 spot is nigh impossible to take, you could say Mage Wars has the top spot

Strategy and Tactics / Re: the Art of Mage Wars: Lesson 1
« on: July 25, 2013, 09:52:01 AM »
Great application of a classic book to the game.  While I have read Art of War, I've never really thought of applying it to a board game.  After your excellent breakdown I think I may have to go back and reread the book.  While I have been using some of these factors subconsciously, your post provoked some good thinking points for me; I've never thought of using my remaining amount of mana as a means to bluff my opponent.  Keep up the good work.

I will be going to boardgame night at Pandemonium in Cambridge tonight. I plan on bringing my spell books in case anyone wants to play.  If by chanc  someone out there I'd very new/wants to learn, let me know so I can bring all my stuff

Greetings.  Just moved into Boston (Jamaica Plains to be specific), anyone in the city/surrounding area still play?

League / Tournament Play / Re: How expensive is competitive play?
« on: June 21, 2013, 07:48:00 AM »
I think it really comes down to if you want to keep your competitive spellbooks together or not.  I have two competitive books that I take/use for more serious play; however, I only put them together the night before.  Normally my cards are just organized and I have a couple of books that I'm testing/made for fun put together.  I only have the core, expansion and both tomes and I haven't had an issue with not enough cards (of course, I've never tried to make something with 6 of a single card)

I wasn't running any Grey Angels in my Priestess build, but you can bet I'm gonna put this angel in.

Great meeting fellow Mage Wars players!  Hopefully we will meet up again soon.

Oh new boots.  Fun, unique and interesting.  The Unmovable will come in handy against pesky Forcemasters that's for sure

So pumped for this.  Hopefully those maybes come too and then we can have a real slugfest

I like Drain Soul.  While it is very pricey,  I can see it being a nasty surprise for your opponent.  Can't wait to put it in my Warlock book
