Spellbook Builder / Re: My spellbook builder
« on: September 01, 2016, 04:15:39 AM »
I hope this builder gets localized for Germany, where people still do not have a spellbook builder. If you need help, just ask.

Some suggestions:

  • Could you add search fields for level and casting cost?
  • Could you exclude cards that do not apply for the mage ("for dark mage only when configuring a Priest")?
  • Could you add a clear search button?
  • Now that the LOV for spell type has been fixed, could you also fix clicking the header to sort spells by type?
  • I cannot order the spells by cost by clicking on the header?
  • Could you add a clear book button (with confirmation)?
  • Could you add more slots?
  • Could you add a way to export/import a spellbook so you can pass it on to somebody to have a look? Perhaps as an URL so somebody can look at it and save it in one of his own slots if he likes it? This will also allow you to work on a book on multiple computers.
  • Could you add a hover/highlight current line feature, to clearly show which line the cursor is on? Especially on large monitors you have to travel to the right with your eyes carefully to read the stats. Highlighting the current line would help.
  • A "report errata" feature that allows people to report mistakes while searching or if a card has changed.

I'd say Enchantment Tranfusion is too powerful. It feels like you are using an exploit.

I'm in favor of Halewijn's suggestion to make it work on death of a creature like the artwork suggests. Perhaps a MUST REVEAL on death.

I've updated the builder with ability to search all card text so searches like "flying", "stun", "ranged" and similar now work.

It's amazing what a bit of positive feedback does to one's motivation :)

COOL!!!

This makes it the best spellbook builder I know. Finally you can look for cards that cause Sleep for example. Or cards with Regenerate, etc..

Academy spellbook rules can be found on page 19 of the Academy rulebook.

If you could load files from the filesystem (graphics and metadata files), we could make it multilingual? I could supply you with the German cards, and OCR-ed text.

Some feedback:

Perhaps change the order of card types to:
  • ALL
    Equipment
    Conjurations
    Creatures
    Enchantments
    Incantations
    Attacks

Perhaps add 1 or 2 more full text search fields to allow for searches like "demon" & "regenerate".

In a private project I did I had 3 rows with 3 fields (3 x 3). Columns were AND-ed and rows were OR-ed. =;-)

Very nice. What would be absolutely unique would be the ability to search for card text like "flying" or "mana".

I think it is even worse: I think you have to reveal the card even if the attack is unavoidable.

Obviously you do not have to pay the reveal cost and if you don't the card is just discarded.

If you do pay the reveal cost, it is discarded as well, because of what Boocheck explained: Defenses do not work against unavoidable attacks. The 2 direct damage are part of the defense.

Your mage receives 1 direct damage for each friendly demon creature in play. While attacking this round, friendly demon creatures gain the melee +1 trait.

So this is basically a gamble incantation right?

The average dmg on a roll is 1. So you get 1 dmg per demon and deal 1 dmg per demon. With the chance of rolling a 2 (above average)... Or the risk of rolling a 0 (below average)...

Additionally the dmg you get is direct damage. So no way around it. But the damage you deal could be avoided, or hit armor.

Doesn't that make this card a bit useless?

I think the theme of the rolling Tsunami attack makes you expect the attack pushes creatures into the same direction the Tsunami is moving. "The water pushes things" is what the brain expects.

But what really happens is a mage who casts Tsunami with a potential push (away from him) followed by the same mage casting another Tsunami with a potential push (away from him) etc. etc.. So the mage always causes the push and not the Tsunami.

I'd have loved to see the push direction to follow the Tsunami direction though...  ;D

Guess you just have to take care that the casting direction of Tsunami is the same direction as the direction you choose the Tsunami to move (cast to your left and move left for example). Then everything is pushed with the Tsunami, which might cause multiple attacks.

Having read the Tsunami text again, I think it really means "repeat the attack".

So that is as if the mage attacks the next zone again with the same card.

That would point towards:

Quote
"When Tsunami is cast, choose a direction. After the attack resolves, repeat the attack one zone farther away in the chosen direction. This continues until there are no farther zones. Flying creatures are immune to Tsunami. The direction of each push effect is evaluated with every new attack and is always away from the mage."

Just letting you guys know you can watch the stream from yesterday here --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHP56J0VKI4

@Donovan - With Tsunami you have to think about the push effect being separate from choosing the direction for the wave itself. If you imagine it like Jet Stream Push -> Whatever zone your mage is currently in when the attack sequence happens is where the rule for push follows.

I think if Shark would have known he could have just used minor teleport or pushed himself into the zone and do the same thing and still pull the clutch win.

Also I'll try and hover over for longer! New cards are hard to understand.

Still Tsunami is a different beast where the normal push rule acts weird.

Because the Tsunami repeats itself into a chosen direction. And every time a push can be generated.

So what about the 3rd or 4th push? Still into the same direction that was originally away from the mage, but might be towards the mage in the 4th attack of the Tsunami?

Or will the push direction be re-evaluated every time the Tsunami hits and is then always away from the mage?

I think that might not be the intention of the card.

Quote
"When Tsunami is cast, choose a direction. After the attack resolves, repeat the attack one zone farther away in the chosen direction. This continues until there are no farther zones. Flying creatures are immune to Tsunami."

Quote
A push effect always pushes the target one zone in the same direction as the line from the source to the target.

I think in the case of Tsunami, the Tsumani source zone is actually the source of the push. That would be much more natural.

This card definitely needs a ruling in my view.

Is it:

Quote
"When Tsunami is cast, choose a direction. After the attack resolves, repeat the attack one zone farther away in the chosen direction. This continues until there are no farther zones. Flying creatures are immune to Tsunami. The push effect uses the same direction in which the Tsunami is travelling."

or

Quote
"When Tsunami is cast, choose a direction. After the attack resolves, repeat the attack one zone farther away in the chosen direction. This continues until there are no farther zones. Flying creatures are immune to Tsunami. The direction of each push effect is evaluated with every new attack and is always away from the mage."

or

Quote
"When Tsunami is cast, choose a direction. After the attack resolves, repeat the attack one zone farther away in the chosen direction. This continues until there are no farther zones. Flying creatures are immune to Tsunami. The direction of the push effect is evaluated for the first attack (away from the mage) and then every subsequent push uses this same direction.."

What a game. Seriously I thought Shark was going to lose. And then... Blub blub blub blub... What a mighty card!

Small request: Could you hover the cursor above the cards that are being played a bit longer? That helps when you watch the game via Youtube as video.

Perhaps also discuss the situation on the board every 5-10 minutes or so, hovering the cursor above each card?

So what was the ruling on the way Tsunami worked? I kind of agree with Sharkbait regarding my expections of how Tsunami works:

Quote
"When Tsunami is cast, choose a direction. After the attack resolves, repeat the attack one zone farther away in the chosen direction. This continues until there are no farther zones. Flying creatures are immune to Tsunami."

There was a discussion on how this worked if you cast the spell to the zone on your right and how the push would resolve. Normally a push resolves from from mage. But in this case that would be weird in my opinion:

So the mage casts Tsunami in the zone to his right and chooses direction "left". So far I think that is OK and intended.

But now the push happens. The discussion was that a push should normally resolve from the mage - away from him. But that would be weird, because the next zone Tsunami hit would be the zone where the mage would be in himself. So what is away then? And what about the 3rd time Tsunami hits. Now the Tsunami hits the zone to his left and the push direction is suddenly towards the mage? Or is the direction of the push chosen every time the Tsunami hits a zone?

Or, much more natural, is the direction of the push always the same as the direction of the Tsunami?

I would favor the last option, because it is much more natural.

Perhaps the card should read:

Quote
"When Tsunami is cast, choose a direction. After the attack resolves, repeat the attack one zone farther away in the chosen direction. This continues until there are no farther zones. Flying creatures are immune to Tsunami. The push effect uses the same direction."

Then this might for me be the first reason to consider the card now.  ;)

Thank you! I thought I was not allowed, but I wanted to check to be sure.

If you have a 6 die attack for example, AF is an interesting option as well. Also if you have a defense...

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Earth Elemental
« on: August 26, 2016, 10:52:45 AM »
This book is excellant to deal with Earth Elementals, or just killing the mage. The hammer is very nice if you can land a daze on a Elemental. Missing a daze roll and losing 7 dice is pretty brutal. Make sure you have akiros favor so you can help get that daze. Otherwise Hale had some good ideas. I wouldn't cast the bracers until you know you are about to be hit. Casting to early (like turn 1) is to limiting for your mana pool.

Thx. Will try again. Guess I freaked out when he pulled the Earth Elemental in the first round. And then 2 rounds later pulled the 2nd one. I went for them, but really I think you should not. There is no way you can beat 2 mages worth of life and still stand as strong as before. You have likely emptied all your good spells/creatures and will be vulnerable.

Next time I will not cast conjurations, but make sure I have enough fighting power to hit the mage when he starts this way.

Will report back.

Btw, I would love to see some videos of you guys where you do not focus on entire games (love those too btw) but on some game openings - say the first 4 rounds of a game for certain mages. Perhaps also focusing on the differences of having initiative or not. This weird Earth Elemental opening for the Air Wizard could be one of them. I'd love to see how you guys deal with it. And I'd also like to see some game openings for other mages.

For example, I saw a very aggressive Force Master opening once. Immediately hitting the other mage with Boulders etc.. That can be quite surprising and if you commit mana to slow buildup and the other mage comes in aggressively, it is hard to correct.

Also could you post your book? Perhaps there is something we could examine to help you deal with the Earth Elementals besides just taking them yourself.

World and Lore / Re: Air elemental

No, elementals do not have it.

Golems however are magical constructs (magical walking machines) and do not have an own mind. They have the psychic immunity traith.

OK. I was referring to this discussion, where somebody implied that Elementals have Psychic Immunity - although the Earth Elemental does not show this trait:

-Thorg can waste an Earth Elementals turns but taunting it and forcing it to move to his zone (since its a slow creature with no quick attack it will just uselessly lumber around)
Elementals are psychic immune so they ignore the taunt.

It thought there was some kind of undocumented ruling or so... But that is not the case, correct?
