General Discussion / Re: Card dividers

I would think they could fit the sleeves and all. Since the spell books are going to be big enough so that you can put a sleeved card in, I have a feeling that the designers had an eye for what actual players like to do with their cards and such.

Klaxas makes a good point about needing a spellbook for demos and such. *Sigh* Really need lots of spellbooks now. Hopefully I can buy spellbooks solo sooner or later.

Ohhhhhh, I see. That could be pretty cool actually. These would make pretty cool tournament prizes I think actually.

World and Lore / The Bog Queen
« on: August 06, 2012, 01:23:03 AM »
So, in the background material, it talks about the Bog Queen living in Darkfenne. Will we ever hear more about this character and her background? I'm always very curious when people talk about a long forgotten civilization and such. Is there any direct ties between her and the different tribes in Darkfenne to other than they fight each other?

World and Lore / Arraxian Crown
« on: August 06, 2012, 01:21:05 AM »
So, I really like the Warlock and his theme and background and such. As such, I was wondering about the Arraxian Crown. They work with the demons that left the realm and such - how long ago did that happen by the time that the game occurs? How did the demons get to the world in the first place? I find this group to have a lot of good story possibility really. Also, is there a reason why the Warlock joined the Crown in the first place?

Mages / Re: Mages that you would like to see in the game
« on: August 06, 2012, 01:16:24 AM »
Here's a couple of other different ideas for mage's I was thinking today:

The Geomancer - Earth based mage that uses the very earth itself to devastate and destroy his enemies. He can cast an earthquake in a zone, dealing damage to everybody there and causing a debuff to be placed on them. He can create different crystals in a zone that he can use to channel his spells through and enhance them - for example, the Pyrius Crystal would add a possible burn effect to any spell that's cast through it and such.

The Lich Lord - A Dark magic based mage. An covert agent from the Bog Queen herself, she specializes in a special kind of curse - diseases. Diseases spread from creature to creature when they come into contact with them (same zone). They also have special diseases which add different zone wide debuffs. Her creatures are all plaguebeasts that carry different diseases or affect them in different ways.

I think an artifcer, to make it different from a warlord, could be good to have it based on a ranged way of combat - using guns and stuff. Also be great if they could set up like some kind of turret or something, that has a ranged attack but can not move and such. It would be a great counter to the warlord, who would be pretty much the same schools, and create an interesting match up.

League / Tournament Play / Calling all Sacramento, CA players!
« on: August 05, 2012, 06:50:32 PM »
If you happen to live in the Sacramento area, like I do, write here. I want to get the game going in the area and would really like to get feedback from any players in the area interested too. I know many of the LGS have open play night where we could get started, or I can talk to some of the stores and see if we can get a play night going as well.

Either way, chime in and let's get the ball rolling! Let's have Sacramento be the PLACE to be to play Mage Wars!

Names of the mages on the side would be cool, but I'd much rather have more selections for the art on the front and back of the spell books. I love this aspect of the game btw.

Can't wait to get my hands on the 4 player pack. I hope it comes out before December (not holding my breath). I can just picture Christmas Eve with my wife and I battling my brother and his girlfriend.

You figure you can defeat the opponent next turn, only to lose your last point of HP by your own Idol of Pestilence at the start of the turn.

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Official proxy cards
« on: August 05, 2012, 06:39:08 PM »
Eh, official proxies I think would hurt the business model more so than anything. If they have certain cards to download online for playing then people wouldn't really buy some of the sets. With that said, unofficial proxies that you make would work out well to be playing with your friends.

I'd really recommend that if you play with proxies use sleeves. Its cleaner and allows you to do anything you want without showing off anything. Another thing you can do is that both players could re-use a certain level 1 card 3 times or something, and having a counter of some sort to determine how many times its been played. Sure it gives them an idea of how many times you've done it, but you wouldn't need a proxy.

Alternative Play / Re: Thoughts on a Tournament setup?
« on: August 05, 2012, 06:35:09 PM »
I don't really like the idea of changing cards between matches or adding points simply because it would turn to a tournament logistical nightmare in some ways. I think having the 120 or so point spell book is more than enough for tournament. With that said, I think it'd be ok to have a sideboard of sorts - but with it being a point based book composition over a card count, I think that would lead to some trouble.

For tournaments I think the best thing is to follow how miniature games work and not how a card game works. I think it'd allow for the best customization and for smoother tournament play that way, but that's just my opinion.

Eh, where do you see page 17? I only got the first 10 pages or so. Is the full version up somewhere?

* Found out where the rules are, sadly its blocked by the Great Fire Wall of China :( Guess more waiting for me

Mages / Re: Mages that you would like to see in the game
« on: August 05, 2012, 06:08:26 AM »
I love the idea of the Warlord actually. I was thinking maybe a kind of ability that he could make multiple attacks that get progressively weaker (like the first target he rolls 3 dice, then the second he rolls 2 dice and so forth). I also think the Warlord would be awesome if he had some kind of bashing type ability - he can knock somebody from one zone to another (like Force Push) and then have an ability that allows him to rush into them and stun them or something. I'd also like to see him interact with soldiers and such in a more tactical feeling way, kind of card to explain. Like, maybe his soldiers could create a temporary debuff on the target so that any subsequent attacks become better, stuff like that.

As for the Force Master, I think it'd be cool if they could create clones of themself. Each clone acts as a prescencence on the field for casting quick actions, but when they are targeted by an attack you flip it over to see if its the real one or not. I think that would be great and create a lot of interesting mind games for this caster.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: 120pts vs spellbook design
« on: August 05, 2012, 05:04:43 AM »
Yeah, looking at the card pool selection so far I think 120 is pretty good number. Not to low and not too high, and I can see how it allows a lot of customization too actually. For me, I don't really see it all that different when you compare it to other miniature wargames. I think with this we'll see a lot of creativity come out from players once they get the hang of the mechanics and such. I'm already trying to work out some unconventional things to throw together :)
