Well, that's one potential source of the terrible, isn't it?

Privious winners, people nominated by ambassadors, people doing good work in the Mage Wars community doing blogs, podcasts, set reviews, etc.

Just thinking that if the goal is to increase attention/attendance, one way to do that might be to increase the prestige of the event, and help build up community, too.

I mean, it's not like we'd need to be terribly exclusive, right? Anyone who really wanted into the tournament last year got in, it looks to me. Emailing AW and asking for an invite with a paragraph of "here's why you should totally invite me" would probably be enough?

[Disclaimer - I'm not angling to exclude anyone, and could not go myself.]

The following idea may be terrible. Proceed with critical consideration.

Invitational?

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Smallzhao's Frenzy Necromancer

I lost a very surprising game to a Frenzy necro, when I thought I had him well countered. I'd summoned a Darkfenne Hydra with Bear Strength and Circle of Lightning and made sure it was positioned between me and the zombies, and lightly injured. I knew bloodthirsty would mean the crawlers would have to fight the hydra, and the counterstrikes and damage barrier, I figured, would help thin them quickly.

Some slightly-better-than-I-counted-on rolls later and my hydra was dead and the Zombies came for me next. Oops!

Is there a reason you prefer Decoy for popping Nullify? When I began playing I did, too, but stopped when I learned that the Nullify prevents the Decoy from becoming an Enchantment, so no mana is returned.

Why the Decoy?

I would point out that Mongoose Agility lets you run away from Earth Elemental like a champ. It's slow, so can't move and attack, and if you're not hindered you should be able to move away. The Wizard can (and probably will) cast Charge or Teleport, but it's not like he's going to have a lot of mana lying around.

Assuming that I knew this was coming? Enchant self twice. No move.

Never try to kill an Earth Elemental. Just Banish/Teleport/Turn To Stone / Force Hold / Whatever Else them. They're Slow and they have 35 health. That amount of damage is for the enemy mage, not the creatures.

Elemental Wand and 2 Hurl Boulders costs 21 mana. It only takes 5 hurl boulder to kill someone wasting all his or her mana on Earth Elementals.

There was a "rumor" that you could spend them if you got at least 20. I'll let you know if I ever get there. :p

(No, not really 😀 )

Rules Discussion / Re: essence drain and eternal servant
« on: August 13, 2016, 08:42:44 PM »
The brute dies and the enchantment falls off. You may pay the mana cost of the Brute for the Eternal Servant ability. If you do, the Brute is Reanimated, is placed in the zone face down with an action marker, and comes into play at the end of the round as normal for the Reanimate ability.

It's not a great way to save mana because Eternal Servant requires you to pay the mana cost of the Brute.

Off topic / Re: Opting out of Tapatalk's default sig

I knew I wouldn't be able to find the method until I asked about it.

The answer, at least on Android, is that the upper right menu icon is context specific, and doesn't always display the "settings" option.

1. Using the app nav bar, go to your list of forums.

2. Select the menu icon (three stacked dots in upper right corner).

3. Chose settings

4. About half way down there's a signature setting, which can be customized or disabled.

Does anyone using Tapatalk know how to turn off the automatic signature? I can turn it off for any single post, but I often forget to, and it's an annoyance to do every time. Is there a setting somewhere to disable it by default?
