@shadow

You still havent solved the deathlink confusion.

Death link is confusing because:
It gives ONE player the option to do something that affects BOTH players during upkeep.

How is this resolved?

Death link is one effect that has two parts, first the heal then the damage they are all part of the same effect.

Rules V2 PG:7

You always choose the order in which events that affect your creatures and objects occur during this phase. In the rare case that a timing issue occurs, the player with the initiative decides the order.

Example:
You control a Highland Unicorn with the Regenerate 2 trait that has a Burn marker on it. Since the creature has a lot of damage on it, the Burn effect could destroy it. You can choose to resolve the Regenerate trait first, before the Burn effect.

So if a creature with Regen has a Deathlink on it the triggers would be resolved by the player with initiative.The same is true for  Idol of Pest Ghoul Rot or any other upkeep non condition effects that apply at the same time.

One thing to remember is effects like burn and rot are not controlled by a player even if their effect created it. Ghoul Rot, Idol, & Death Link all have a controller.
