looks like I'll have to by this box, even if I don't want to play the orbs!

General Discussion / Re: Skeletal vs Zombie Necromancer
« on: April 30, 2015, 01:19:31 AM »
Is it better to just be a skeletal warlord instead of necromancer?

If you try to build a skeletal Warlord, I think you'll find that you start wondering why you're going with skeletons rather than War school soldiers, especially since spell points are so hard to come by for the Warlord to begin with.  In other words, it's (probably) easier to justify a few War conjurations in a Necromancer book than an army of skeletons in a Warlord book.  But feel free to prove me wrong.

I tried and proove you right!

It would be nice if there was a "upgrade pack" that included both the new spellbooks and the extra / errated cards so that purchasers of the original game could be aligned with the new version

For people like me, who buy one of each box (and build a new spell book each time), the upgrade pack would be very usefull!

Language is one part of the problem.
After years, a lot of french players decided to by the orioginal cards, it's hard work to understand but we didn't want to wait and wait for a hypothetical translation...
How many more french players would start MW with a translation and good addvertising? I don't know (children? players who choosed spanish or german before english at school? players who prefered play than go to school?...). I heard the french core set didn't get sold well, it was perhaps to late.

I don't have time to go to organised events, so it's not very important for me.

What is, is that MW cards can be find in game shops, with well informed people there. And that is not the case yet.

In my experience if a player is sufficiently familiar with their spellbook and sufficiently skilled, the vast majority of the time games won't go over 2 hours even with the most controlling books. When I have seen or played longer games than that the bulk of the extra time tends to be in the thinking and planning.

When you play with friends on saturday night, the extra time is chatting with them too.
That's for me an important part of the game (I hate time limite!).

General Discussion / French edition
« on: April 08, 2015, 08:02:36 AM »
I heard that the french edition wouldn't go further than the core set.
Is it true?

I prefere to suffer on the original version, but my son (7 y.o.) was looking forward to join, and he speeks no english...

Poland?
I'm in Switzerland... and it's very dificult to find MW here...

About the new play-mode, it can surely be very exciting, but (playing twice per month), I think I have a lot to discover with the ancient mode.
Playing for orbs will bring a hole new way to build and fight, for me it's a new game, and I don't need one for now!

I love MW (with it's expension rythme, etc., etc.) and I don't need what seems to be a totally new game (controlling orbs).

My question is:
will the new cards of this expension add something for the "ancient way" of playing MW (paf you're dead!), or should I wait to command the next expension?

I thought yesterday about your "less than 2 hours games"...

we begun a Dwarf warlord vs Miss warlock shortly after 6pm, at 2am the bar closed.
I had to abandon an arena full of golems (I could have won in a few rounds), he had to abandon a spellbook full of demons (he would have won after a few rounds)... argl! far more frustrating than a good defeat!

I like long games (under 4h it doesn't worth starting to play !).
And I admit that we take time to think, have a beer, a smoke&talk break on the balcony,...

I read a lot of messages about too long 3 hours games, and normal 45-60 minutes games...

My normal MW games are 4-6 hours long and I like that!
(min: 2h30 max: gave up after 8h)

The new war cards are realy exciting (I don't know where to begin with my spellbook)!
I'm not sure yet what to think about the fire-burn warlock... but, as I said, fire and dark were allready very powerfull before fif, so I just hope it won't be to much!

You say that Academy will bring important new cards?
Does it mean that this set is not only for beginners?
