Mage Wars Dominates Gen Con 2012

Written by

Everyone was talking about Mage Wars at the show.  A great review from Tom Vasel prior to the show really helped inform Gencon attendees what was the hot product of Gencon 2012. Larry Fettinger of InD20 also gave us a nice mention and preview in his pre-Gencon video.

Fans were wearing our shirts and playing the game everywhere!  All of the room keys for the Hyatt and Marriott had our beautiful Priestess printed on them. The excitement and anticipation was tangible!

The Mage Wars Team from Arcane Wonders, arrived in Indy Tuesday, August 14th to begin set up for Gen Con 2012. The team worked tirelessly to make sure our booth and demo area were perfect for the epic release of Mage Wars! A special thanks to the convention staff for all of their help and professionalism.

During the show the team ran 900+ demos. Each demo lasted 50 min and as a free ticketed event, was sold out each day of the con. Participants received their choice of a free Priestess t-shirt or Mage Wars baseball cap for playing a full demo. In the exhibit hall, attendees had the opportunity to purchase Mage Wars merchandise, as well as, get a short explanation of the game. By stopping by our booth, and listening to our spiel, fans were given a Mage button. Each day a new Mage was featured; many participants came back to collect all 4!

The first three nights of the show, the Mage Wars team held 32-player single-elimination tournaments. Participants were randomly given a Mage (Beastmaster, Priestess, Warlock, or Wizard) to face off with an opponent in the Arena. The competition was fierce; the battles intense! In the end each night, a winner and runner up won gorgeous giclee prints of Mage Wars artwork, signed by the artist, Craig Spearing.

At the exhibit booth, the team eagerly awaited the hall opening in anticipation of our fans' reception. We were pleasantly surprised when the announcement came over the intercom that the hall was now open, and people sprinted to our booth to buy the first copies of Mage Wars for sale. The first copies of Mage Wars were sold out in 40 minutes. A new shipment of Mage Wars sold out on Friday in just under 15 minutes. And to close out sales of our available copies, on Saturday the team sold out of copies in an amazing 1 minute and 43 seconds! For our fans that were not able to secure a copy, please pre-order through your local game or bobby store.  If you do not have a retailer, we are taking orders at our website, www.magewars.com.

We received an incredible amount of attention. Several reviewers and press members came by daily to meet with us and take pictures, video, or make vocal recordings.  Look for lots of great blogs, videos, pictures, and podcasts in the coming days! Check our website, Board Game Geek or Facebook to keep up with all the latest news.

The best part for us was the positive reinforcement! Fans came back to tell us how much they enjoyed the game every day!  Everyone who played a demo really enjoyed the game and was excited to start playing it.

Thanks to all who helped make the Mage Wars debut at Gen Con 2012 a HUGE success!!!
