The Official Mage Wars FAQ

How to Teach Mage Wars
Learn to run demos just like the Mage Wars team does at conventions! In this PDF is included sample smaller spellbooks to help new players ease in to the amount of spells Mage Wars offers. It also contains sage advice about how to run a demo that gives the players a lot of control, but still helps teach them the core concepts of the game in an ordered way that they will remember!
Apprentice Spell Lists
Before you dive in to our updated Pre-built Spellbooks (included below), try out the Apprentice Spellbooks! They're smaller - and designed to be used with the Apprentice Mode demo version of the game. But don't worry, they aren't weak or wimpy by any means - when you play the Apprentice Mode with smaller life spans and a smaller arena, you'll get thrown right into the action! Each of the Apprentice Spellbooks is flavorful and designed to remove the immense number of options, so that you and your friends can start off doing what you want to do - destroying your enemies!
Updated Spell Lists
We've brought our amazing rules team together and updated the pre-built spellbooks included in the Mage Wars rulebook. These lists are new and improved, and most importantly you can build all four of them using only the Mage Wars Core Set! Here are some of the improvements: 1) You can build all four of the Mages at the same time using just the Core Set. 2) This list includes the Apprentice Spellbooks within it, so if you've learned how to play the game using just the Apprentice Spellbooks, then all you have to do is update those spellbooks! 3) The mages have been optimized for flavor and strategy!
Round Summary Chart
Broken off from the Mage Wars Rulebook is this stand-alone Round Summary Chart. Keep it close by for a quick reference of the order of the Ready Stage and the Action Stage. It also has great information about which Actions a player can take in their turn, and as a bonus it also includes the steps you take in Attacking and Casting a Spell! It's a great reference for new players who want to keep track of everything all at once, and it also helps veterans out when they're breaking down the specifics of a particular nasty combo!
Conditions Summary
Need to look up how Burn or Stun works really quickly, but don't want to flip through the Codex? This quick reference will make it easy to look up the most common conditions in a pinch. Great for beginners or experts - just a quick glance and you're back to doing what you do best, attacking the enemy mage!
